Conservative election promises in their manifestos on immigration since they came to power.
2010 - Get net migration to 10,000's - FAILED. 2015 - Get net migration to 10,000's - FAILED. 2017 - Get net migration to 10,000's - FAILED. 2019 - Take back control of immigration - FAILED. 2024 - They are now promising this time that if they get re-elected numbers will come down!
That's 14 years of failure but they've promised they'll deliver this time if we vote for them. Yea ok you've had your chances and failed miserably. Why should we believe you this time ?

2010. Net migration. 250,000 2015. Net migration. 300,000 2017. Net migration 230,000 2019. Net migration 212,000 2022. Net migration 764,000 2023. Good news all!. Down 10% to "only" 685,000
And-if you vote them in-they are confident they can get that figure down to 500,000.
I'm not going to defend the Tory's record on immigration, it's woeful, however in the last 15 years immigration has become much more of a global problem, the overall numbers are much greater than they were in 2010. Yes some people are facing persecution and leave their home countries because of that but many, many more are financial immigrants. They are coming to the UK as they see it as the land of opportunity (or, in some cases, benefits), I dare say they get treated pretty poorly in every country they go through on the way (especially France) so they have to keep travelling to reach the end of the rainbow. Sadly, I don't think we're the pot of gold they're looking for either, but by that time it's too late.

All of that is true. For the 7-8% asylum seekers coming in via small boat.
But not true for the 92-93% given study and work visas.
That makes woeful reading, those figures, a new it was bad , people that live on the south coast no wonder they’re fed up with it.. your spot on as well we are not the pot off gold but to them we are , and its stealing our taxes to pay for them it has to stop money needs spent here not on housing immigrants it’s destroying this country. We can’t keep being a charity . Draconian or not straight on a plane and back to where you came from no exceptions come by boat must be returned
On the letters page today, a response from Chris van Hoorn to this article asking why Rishi Sunak may have called an early election.
Chris van Hoorn: Amid all the speculation around the reasons for Rishi Sunak’s announcement of an early election, none has mentioned the possibility that secretly he might actually want to lose. The scale of the problems facing the country and the paucity of talent available to him make his task virtually impossible. Perhaps the same thought has come to other party leaders, for they show little enthusiasm for putting forward detailed plans of their own.
The underlying weakness of our two-party system needs to be addressed and our adversarial politics revised to make it possible for the long-term issues that face this country to be resolved. To do this we need greater consensus in all areas of our public life, which can only remain a dream under our existing electoral system.
They should be canvassing and campaigning although the 3 Conservative MPs for Stoke on Trent North, Central and South might better use their time packing their stuff.

Only twice that when they came into power.
Conservative bosses bar Lord Frost from standing as MP
the odds are moving more in favour of labour it seems then tory plan is they know its all doomed and they simply want to hand Labour a poisened challice which means I will lose my bet and not get the £70 or gloating rights for the I told you so on a tory victory but things will get much worse anyway and then Labour party fall apart and we get tories back in two years the worst of all worlds.
