"It would also help enormously if the Civil Service/Government speeded up the vetting process. Little wonder there's a problem housing them when the Government (in effect) takes several years to process them. Process them quicker & more efficiently, & most of the problem goes away".
If the vetting process was more efficient, we still have the problem of where do we send the failed ones back to?
You can see the number of arrivals year on year. The maximum in any one year up until 2023, was less than 30,000. Yet they have managed to create a backlog of over 150,000. This figure represents more than 5 years of arrivals. All staying in hotels, getting 3 meals a day, and a couple of quid to spend, or disappearing into the black economy. You would think that would be impossible.

I'm told Rwanda's nice this time of year? ( joke! )🤪
Whatever you think of Rwanda, it would have definitely stopped the boats. It would also surely beat life in Gaza, or living under the Taliban for instance.
So where do we send the failed ones back to? Anyone?
On another note: When the war started in Ukraine it was the women and children that made up the majority of the refugees, with the men staying and fighting for their country.
Compare that with "refugees" coming from the Middle East and Africa.
