Ah sorry to hear about the family situation. Some of my friends/family still don't really understand it and its only since I've been on the show that they've come around! I'm sure someones mentioned it before, but why do you still play the fairly low stakes DYMs compared to where you choose to play cash? Also...do you have a laptop? Does your Dad come into your room? Maybe you could withdraw some money and arrange a grind station a little more private! Posted by scotty77
Re: DYMs - I'm not actually sure why I'm only playing £5.50. I usually play 12 tables when playing DYMs as opposed to 4 max when playing Cash, but still, I've got 200 BI's for the next level so should definitely move up. Had a big downswing at the start of the month which took away all my confidence in how I was playing DYMs, but have got that back so don't see any reason not to be playing at the next level up tbh.
Re: Grind station - Yeah, I have a laptop, it's tiny though and can only fit a couple of tables in mini view, so I could play on that but it'd be a bit of a nightmare - I mainly use it for my records. Getting a proper set up in my room is something to consider, and something I've considered before, although would be fun finding the space for it, lol.
You Dad just wants a chat with his Son, he doesn't understand what your doing - sounds like he just verbally lashing out on you because you tell him get lost - Sit him down and tell that when you have you headphones on you can not talk, but when headphones are off you can talk I feel for you, a lot of relations/partners etc.. don't understand why you can't talk and just get annoyed because they feel ignored - the same as going out to the pub or meal with someone and they start talking to someone on their mobile phone - Posted by rancid
Have tried the thing with headphones before, putting music on etc, although he just stands around, moving his lips, pretending to talk until I get fed up with seeing him out of the corner of my eye and I end up having the same problem. He has this idea that because it's "his house and his rules", I have to talk to him whenever he wants a conversation, which is rather annoying.
Hey pingu, been a silent reader of your diary for a week or 2 now, its nice to read after i finish playing most eveing's and can relate to loads of things you post so always find it interesting! I remember you talking about buying a PLO book... Is it worth a read? Have you found it useful so far etc? Hope you can keep finding time to play. Jono Posted by jh16
The book, "Pot Limit Omaha Poker - The Big Play Strategy" is brilliant - I've only got to Chapter 4 so far, but it's already paid for itself and a lot more. There's an "Advanced Pot Limit Omaha" book by the same author as well, which is a lot more expensive, and I imagine the book I bought is more basic stuff, but definitely worth a read, can't go wrong for £7.50 tbh.
If you go onto Amazon, you can preview the book, I think the preview lets you view the contents and read the first chapter, and I think you can do that for most books for sale on the site, so if you're thinking of buying any Poker books (or any other book for that matter), definitely preview them first to make sure they have what you're after.
Will hopefully still find time to play, but I'll still be on the community if not.

Try this, bit of a mind game - when he comes to talk to you - sit out of your tables for 5-10 minutes and talk to him - trsut me - it's only 10 minutes out of your poker play - It will make you feel better and your Dad - jobs a good un
Your just going round in this vicious circle, where there is no middle ground, try and find some middle ground and give your Dad some of you time - Maybe you can talk to him about poker and get him invloved a bit more in what your doing, once you have his intrest then maybe he will get off you back some
Come on Evil see it from your Dads point of view, he doesn't want you to become a degen He want you to go to uni - get a good job - and don't be a thicko like him )
Monday 16th April No more Poker today, probably not playing again until Thursday and will almost certainly have to give up on getting into Priority Club this month. A bit of background for those who don't know, I'm 18, still at College and living with Dad (Mum died about two and a half years ago). I'm the only Poker player in my entire family, which means I often get told I'm just wasting my money (unlike everyone else who buys scratchcards, lottery tickets, hmm...work that one out), and nobody recognises that there's any skill in the game. As a result, I often end up playing in an environment which isn't condusive to playing Poker to the best of my ability. My father isn't the brightest person around, nor is he someone who I'd particularly want a relationship with if he wasn't my Dad - After nearly 6 months of telling him that when I'm playing, stop trying to have a conversation with me and let me concentrate on Poker, he still hasn't got the message. About an hour ago, I was playing 4 x 50NL tables - His girlfriend turns Skype off and goes to bed, so he decides to settle for second best and talk to his son instead. At this point, my session is going reasonably well, £40 down due to losing 2 flips for 100bb stacks (QQ v AK AIPF and JJ v A7ss on a T high board with 2 spades), but I wouldn't do anything differently if I played the hands again. I'm in a 3-bet pot with QQ, at which point, Dad comes in and starts talking, just for the sake of talking really. I politely tell him to go away, which doesn't work. I get to the river, there's 6 high straight on board with 3 hearts, and what would be a fairly easy fold, albeit a sigh fold, becomes a snap call when you have someone talking rubbish in your ear and putting you off. Opponent turns over 75hh for the flush. Result is that I go on tilt, having spewed £35, end up £150 down before leaving the tables with the remaining £200 or so that I had in play, and what would've probably been a loss of a few quid turns into a three figure loss -_- An hour and a massive argument about why I'm a degenerate gambler, why the house always wins in Poker, and why I should leave home and get a job later (£200k BR challenge anyone?), I've decided that it's -EV to play Poker when you aren't allowed to concentrate on playing, so for the time being, I'll probably only play when I'm home alone, which makes my chances of getting into Priority club, never mind staying there and receiving any benefit from it next month, rather slim, so will probably just give up on Priority Club this month. If I get there anyway, then fair enough, if not, meh. 1 x 50NL @ 5am, +£31.61 4 x 50NL, -£151.95 £5.50 DYM - W7 L6, -£1.50 ********** Bankroll: £2,135.27 Today: -£121.84 This month: -£312.81 C4P: 4,957 (£79.31) ********** Posted by EvilPingu

Already replied to this but another update.
Been reading the book for the last few hours (up to Page 176 now) and it's still really good. Definitely aimed @ PLO beginners with Hold'em experience, has a **** of a lot of practice questions in the book which are also of interest.
it recommends a bunch of other books as well - If you're interested in the titles of any of these to have a look at, let me know and I'll stick a post up.

Honestly not confident it'll work but worth a try sometime nonetheless - Binking a Primo sounds nice, might give that a try as well ) Cheers for the advice

Sucks being made redundant Fair play for turning pro and making a living from the game though. I tried the same approach of not telling anyone I was playing Poker for my first 2 or 3 weeks on the site, sitting in the living room playing a single £1.15 DYM and not letting anyone see the laptop screen ) In the end, I decided that I didn't really care what people thought of me for it, I'm going to play whether they like it or not.

This is awful advice, the last thing you want to do is isolate yourself from your family. If you hide from them and consume yourself in poker without having any time for them they will assume your becoming a degen and get more grief. You will never play your A game if your dad is lurking around.
Look at carli citrone and julian thew as perfect poker role models, they play a lot but also have a good life balance outside of poker.
Hey pingu liking your diary. Being 19 myself i had the same problem with family nagging me. Unfortunitly i dont have much advice. for me the nagging kinda stopped when i moved away for uni.

I agree wholeheartedly with you. Don't let poker overtake your life. Its an enjoyable pastime but unless its your career then think carefully. Even pro's make time in their routines. Do it for poker reasons if you wish.... 1. You will avoid tilt more by having a more varied life. 2. Variety really is the spice of life and family is so important.
The journey threw life is a long one and has many ups and downs, over a life time friends will come and go but your family will always be there..
As much as you enjoy poker and want to be left alone to play it do your self a favour and take some time out and speak to your dad. i would also recomend getting ya selft off to UNI and get some good results, your still young and have years ahead of you to play poker..
To much time in front a screen is very unhealthy, the world awaits you ..
Managed to get 3 orbits in on a 50PLO table and won a buy-in before having to leave the table - Currently have a win rate of something like 550bb/100 as a result! Think I'll have a challenge keeping that win rate up :P Also played a couple of the TV Master Cash tables on the laptop, although single-tabling inevitably caused me to loosen up a little bit too much, which isn't the best idea in the world when Lol_Raise is sat on your left )
Thankfully got the house to myself until Friday or Saturday, so will have a go at 12-tabling £11 DYMs if I feel like it, and see how that goes, should also push my C4P up - Depending on how it goes, I'll decide whether or not I still want to give up on Priority Club this month.

If I'm getting into Priority Club this month then I'll make sure I get it every month thereafter as well so I get the 3+ months boost. Even though I'm not bothered about the extra boost for 3+ months, not getting into Priority Club every month when I'm playing enough to get in, and leaving free money behind would be stupid, really.
Did a bit of maths on C4P and priority, 30 days a month = 333 C4P a day, so 34 £11 DYMs, should only be a couple of hours of Poker a day when playing 12 tables at a time so hopefully once I'm in Priority Club, it should be fairly easy to stay in Priority Club.

Wrongjohn after working out what your trying to say, no you didnt say any of the above. What you did say was evilpingu should lock his dad out his bedroom which is awful advice.
JJ showing someone who doesnt understand poker your scope graph is pointless. Non poker players think it is gambling and they very rarely change their minds. They will think any upswing is luck.
