I saw my dad earlier once more, poor guy was falling asleep. He's still in intensive care because of his breathing. That has improved since this afternoon according to the nurse I spoke to this evening.
In Response to Re: This is it : Hi Richard He was taken back into hospital on Saturday and had to have his operation last night. Hoping he will be back soon though. ~Alison~ Posted by acebarry10
Ah, ok Alison. I misread your last post.
Sorry to hear that he's still in intensive care. Hope he's back home soon.
We had a call from the nurse today that we had to go up and see the surgeon about Barry. He confirmed that they were not able to remove the cancer during the operation as it would have been too risky. He basically had x2 problems - diverticulitis and the early stages of bowel cancer. They had to sort the diverticulitis as it was the more urgent problem. They are still working on his breathing and he is to stop smoking. It's going to be at least 6 weeks before they can operate on the cancer, if everything goes ok. Not the news that we were hoping for at all, and very disappointed it took them until today to tell us.

AS ABOVE, PRAYING ALL GOES WELL I KNOW WHAT IT`S HAVING A DAD IN FOR THIS AS MY DAD HAD IT A FEW YEARS BACK AND WAS TOUGH TIME AND IF BARRY IS LIKE MY DAD HE WON`T GIVE UP AND US A COMMUNITY WON`T LET HIM
Hi Alison, Complications are always a worry but his smoking an even bigger worry and the Anesthetist will have concerns during any operation. Please make him stop now and after he goes home don't let him start again. Hubby was lucky he didn't smoke but when I visited him, I would see patients out side the Main entrance in their Pyjamas puffing away. I know you are disappointed with the six week wait, and he will to, but it will be better for Barry to get fitter and stronger for the bigger Operation. This Operation has a very high success rate and is not life threatening, as I said, Hubby made a full recovery and he sends Barry his regards, good wishes and says enjoy the nurses waiting on you.! Very please you are keeping us all informed of his progress. gl Give Barry a Hug from me. Annie x
Sorry there was no update yesterday, was really tired.
Yesterday Barry was sat in his chair for a little while, still in the Intensive care unit. Today he was back in bed. He now has a feeding tube in him, so they are slowly building him up again. His chest still seems a little iffy, but hopefully that will clear soon.
Barry's chest continues to be a worry for the doctors. I suspect it won't get a lot better but have to hope. He was feeling sick yesterday and he's had to have an x-ray today, the results of which we don't know yet.
Fingers crossed that he returns to as best health as we can expect soon.

As for the 6 week wait, that's very frustrating. Hang in there though.
Send him my best please, Alison, and thanks for the updates.
