Closing balance £106.36 Today continued where yesterday left off as I managed to lose 2 HU matches after being all-in as 60/40 favourite in each for the win.
Then, completely out of the blue, at 12-27pm my luck suddenly changed for the better. 42 minutes into my first Bounty Hunter of the day I cold 3-bet jammed AK and went to the races against 2 callers with QQ and Q8s, I shocked myself by binking a K on the flop to take a head prize and almost treble-up. I can’t even remember the last MTT flip that went my way before that. A few minutes later I busted another big stack with my flopped top set improving to a full house on the river to bust his turned straight. By now I was clear chip leader and all of a sudden poker was great fun again. It wasn’t to last long though, normal service resumed at 12-57pm with AK<AQ hand below. My 30 minutes of run good were well and truly over, soon after that my AT lost to A8 all-in preflop and I crashed out well short of the money.
In my second Bounty Hunter I busted with AA < KQ, the flop came down JT9. A promising run in my third BH of the day lead to a welcome 4th place finish. Unfortunately the cards didn’t go my way when well placed at the sharp end. After losing half my stack with AQ<TT I jammed 66 and ran into 77. I flopped an open ender to give me hope but couldn’t improve. My prize of £4.95 + £0.98, barely more than double my buy-in, is incredibly my best win in my last 31 x £2.30 Bounty Hunters, a stark illustration of just how badly they’ve been going lately.
Despite failing to make a profit today I do feel my confidence has been boosted. For the first time in a while a few MTT flips went my way, there were less bad beats and I actually got myself in a position where I had a realistic chance of a win a couple of times, something that’s been completely absent lately. I’m beginning to really believe better results could be just around the corner. Feb poker points 301.

Totally standard HU hand for me at the moment. Every games seems to go this way. Just can't win a 60/40 at the moment (66/33 here). 'If you can't beat 'em, join 'em', maybe I should start 3-bet shoving 24BB preflop with hands like 84o and see if it works for me, it's working for my opponents.
I cant quite see the stack sizes in those heads-up games but i'm assuming ur playing turbos.
if thats the case then stay away, they are way too swingy for your challenge. i would play the standard heads-up games, they take longer, but the £1-2 levels are very comfortable, and with the longer format, the better player tends to win more often than not.

The stack sizes were 1,210 and 790 with blinds at 15/30, so the villain chose to 3-bet shove his 8/4 offsuit with effective stacks at 26 big blinds. This was his 3rd 3-bet shove of the match from the big blind, so I knew his range was pretty wide, though I didn't expect it to be that wide.
Very happy to report a profit today after all the recent losses. Bounty Hunter tournaments remain my Achilles heel. Once again a couple of promising starts went pear-shaped in unfortunate circumstances. My Bounty Hunter downswing is now up to 34 tournaments, painful but probably not that exceptional in the high variance world of MTTs. The best result of the day was turning £2.40 into £11.00 in a satellite using the ‘buy-in/win another seat/de-register' method.
My confidence is rising somewhat and maybe I can sense my downswing ending. A few flips went my way and I sucked out once with 66>AA aipf to take a head prize. It feels like my 60/40s are managing to hold a bit more often too.
That doesn’t mean things have stopped going the other way. In my final tournament I cruelly dropped from a healthy 4th/19 to 15th/19 (10 to be paid) with TT<77. Then on the money bubble my AA couldn’t over KK to bust the short stack in a crazy hand (see below). Post bubble my A7 v A5 and AJ v AT aipfs both resulted in chops when the board double paired each time. In the end I was relieved to make the final table for a small profit after such a rollercoaster ride. Feb poker points 317.
I came back to the tables to try my luck in another 3 afternoon Bounty Hunter tournaments. The first two went awfully. My bust out hands were KK<A8 and AA<88 (see below), both aipf. The second of those being on the stone-cold bubble to bust out in 9th with 8 to be paid.
In the third tournament I lost 1/3 of my stack in early skirmishes. Then, to my surprise, I actually went on a heater. All of a sudden I was flopping well and my dominating hands were holding. At the hour break I was the clear chip leader with 27K chips and 3 head prizes, miles ahead of second place with 9K. The 4th head followed in level 8 when I won a flip with TT<AQ, the 5th came with JT>J3, the 6th with AA>Q9, the 7th with A9>A7, the 8th with J4>87s (a rare hold for me against a flopped combo draw). Doubling up an opponent’s 20bb stack with 99<AA was only a minor setback as I maintained my big lead. My 9th head came with a suck out, my J7 out drawing the JQ of unfortunate forum member poshcole after we got it in on a J high flop (see below). Just before that I’d lost a huge pot with KJ<Q9, the villain made a full house, I made a terrible river call to double him and drop myself down to 2nd when the bubble burst. When we broke to final table I was placed in 3rd.
When the shortest stack busted the 5 of us remaining at the 2 hour break were all roughly level with around 30bb each. My run came to an end with a 4th place finish. I check-shoved my JTs on a T high flop, the caller had KT and I was out. With the blinds increasing and my stack down to 20bb it was a standard cooler, I’d probably play it the same way again.
While anything other than a win is always a disappointment after making a final table I can take a lot of positives from this tournament. It was my biggest Bounty Hunter cash in my last 40 attempts, more importantly for the first time in about 3 weeks for a good hour I had that great feeling you sometimes get in poker when you’re playing well, running well and everything seems to be going your way.
Is my downswing over? Maybe. That’s 2 profitable days in a row, but I’m still around £19.00 below my peak balance. Feb poker points 327.
Hi gary just seen this thread and its a great idea to do im really enjoying mine so far i wish you all the best luck m8 and hopefully we can both celebrate when we reach the 1k mark. I love challenges and definately makes you play better poker as you have something to focus on. GL m8
I think I can now consider my downswing to be over after getting second in one of my 2 tournaments today. The HU battle lasted a full hour. I was agonisingly close to the win three times when my opponent (who played very well) was all-in against my slightly stronger cards. If I could have won any of these; my 55 v JT aipf, my A5 v QJ aipf or my flopped flush draw and live cards vs over cards then victory would have been mine. Unfortunately it wasn’t to be, my opponent doubled each time and came back for the win. I’m happy though, 3 weeks of rotten luck seems to be over and my balance is heading the right way again. Feb poker points 333.

Thanks. Yep, that was an awful way for you to bust on the bubble. It was first time I'd been on the recieving end of one of those for ages, they'd all been going the other way for a while. gl to you too.
I was too busy today for much poker. In my only tourney of the day I was well placed on the on the bubble when I decided to make a move for a big pot. Had I got away with it I’d be sitting pretty with a big stack, unfortunately my opponent caught me at it and I busted out looking like a total donk. Maybe a touch of overconfidence slipped inafter a couple of profitable days. Feb poker points 343.
Again I didn’t have much spare time for poker today. Profited in a couple of morning micro STTs, but came back to the tables in the afternoon to found myself in ‘doomswitch’ mode (example below), couldn’t get anything to go my way, lost every all-in situation.
It’s important I make 500 poker points this month with the extra £5 PTN bonus up for grabs. With 10 days left to earn another 145 points I should get there OK, but I’ll keep a close eye on the numbers just to make sure. Feb poker points 355.
Found time for 4 micro tourneys today. A promising run in the 10-45am £3.30 BH ended close to the money with a standard late stages flip, I 3-bet jammed 15bb with AQs over a button raise but couldn’t get there against 88.
Another promising run in a £2.30 BH came to grief close to the money again with the hand below. Could anybody get away from that shove? I was hoping to see the nut-flush draw, dreading AdXd. The villain had been playing fairly snug, but had made a similar shove over my flop c-bet a couple of orbits earlier.
My final tournament saved the day with a cash and a few head prizes, but it ended in unpleasant fashion. We were playing the final table bubble at the time, at my 3-handed table I 3-bet jammed AK from the SB over a button raise. He snap called with A4 and binked his 4 on the turn to send me to the rail. Feb poker points 369.
Another day of MTT frustration led to my balance taking a dive. Coolers and going behind on the river were the order of the day. For example; I became the bubble boy in a £2.30 BH after coming within 1 card of bursting the bubble and taking my first head prize. A very short villain on the SB shoved his 2.5BB stack into my BB, obviously an easy call with any two cards. He had 87o, I had 97o, the 8 on the river which doubled him up summed up my day nicely. A few hands later I jammed my 8BB with KTs on the SB and ran into the BB’s AKo. HU STTs went better with 5 wins from 6. Feb poker points 392.
The graph below clearly shows my dissappointing results in £2.30 bounty hunter tournaments since starting this challenge. My results since 9th January are in the blue box. You can see how my usual steady profit has turned into an ill timed plateau.
Long term results suggest I should return to winning ways sooner or later.

Long term results suggest I should return to winning ways sooner or later.
