In Response to Re: Ask Tikay? : Hi TD, The short & simple answer is "no", I do not, & never have, taken any of those mumbo-jumbo "vitamin supplements". Or done drugs & such nonsense, & next month it will be 42 years since I touched alcohol. That's the + side. The negatives are that I've smoked almost all my life (about to quit, though), & eaten junk food & carbs for England until February this year, when I went all silly because I was on a diet & started eating salad & fruit. The Diet is over, 5 stone disappeared, but I'm still scoffing salad & fruit like there's no tomorrow.  I've never "looked after myself" health-wise. I used to work 16 & 18 hours  day, 7 days a week, though I've slowed down a bit now. I still get in the office at about 6am or 7am, work till about 4pm, grab a nap, then play Online until Midnight or so. I was working for just under 50 years, & never took a days sick leave, not one, ever. I have not had a GP since I was a teenager either. I've had no illnesses whatsoever since I was a child. Apart from a few broken bones - arms & legs - I've never been in Hossie, either. My eyes have gone downhill big time recently though. The oddity is that my Dad had 11 brothers & sisters, & not one lived to see 60. I don't take any of this for granted - I was just born lucky I think. A difficult childhood - to put it mildly! - was the perfect way to prepare for life's bumps & bruises as it turned out, & has enabled me to overcome all sorts of adversity without batting an eyelid. If I had children I'd give them a VERY tough upbringing, which would prepare them so much better for life ahead. Parents who spoil kids should be reported to the NSPCC & locked up imo - spoiling kids is child cruelty in my eyes. (As with fat dogs & cats, their owners are just being selfish & cruel). Bit of a freak, really. Part of it is drive, part of it is a massive insecurity, & the rest is down to a burning desire to do whatever I do well. Which is odd, given that I'm not at all competitive in games like poker. "want my BB?, take it, let's just have fun" kinda thing. Some racehorses are like that - they need a lot of work, others need to be lightly trained. A very odd thing really, where my energy comes from.  A girlfriend of mine - ex actually, I'm solo these days, age & all that - used to call me Duracell man. Probz best not to go into that. I confess, I enjoyed the question, & enjoyed answering it. Thank you.

Great post Tikay, this really needs to be expanded upon and made into a Blog post.

Totally agree with you on pets and children, I never spoil my cat and only give my son dry food and a bowl of water.  Bring 'em up hard I say. ;-)

I think three decades would be a stretch.
If he's ever seen anything apart from "Brief Encounter" I'd be surprised.

In Response to Re: Ask Tikay? : Hi Big, Glad to hear the game is going well for you. I'm very much out of fashion & out of step with the modern game, but for me, it's a cardinal sin to push too early in Tourneys. It's a balance thing. The lower your stack, & the later your position on the Table (relative to Button), the wider you can push. With a bigger stack, you have the luxury of waiting for a better spot, or situation.

I totally agree and find myself getting deeper in tournaments and catching up on the early leaders more often than not.

...is the closest to the truth. Except I've never seen "Brief Encounter".

I've maybe watched 10 films in the last 30 years.

    Pulp Fiction

    Lock Stock

    The "Lock-Stock" sequel - "****" I think?

Once Upon a Time in America.

    Goodfellas.

    All the Godfather films.

    That's it, I think.

I have no interest at ALL in watching films. I'd rather spend an hour in the company of Richard Branson, Davina Macall & John Inverdale, than go watch a film at the Cinema, to be honest. Films can wait until I'm old, & retired. I think Films are ideal for very young, or very old, people.

    This is good, though.

There are some wonderful, & memory-evoking, photographs in this, too.

    Hi Scott,

I don't really know the answer to your question, just luck, or variance, I suppose, but congrats on being chip leader. Did you go on to win the Tourney?

I think, no in fact I know i saw the Worst call I have ever seen Live or Online in my days playing this game!!!!!....Was on  £2 bounty hunter tounament ( doing ok ) . To my right was seated a gent with around 3k ( on the button ) who went all in ...seated bottom corner out of position was the table chip leader with around 8k..who CALLED with and I couldnt beleive it when revealed he had 7 4 OFF SUIT....the original raiser had QQ!!! flop K 10 6 all diff suits....TURN 7....and then UNBLEIVABLY  river 4!!! Now that is in my mind the worst call ever to land the luckiest last 2 cards that I have ever seen!!! Its this type of calling and luck that will never ever in a million be beaten....Decent players gettin bad beats like that....and so early with blinds at 50/100 to cal 3k with that is THE WORST CALL EVER....Be happy with replies to see what others think..

Hi TK, hope you are well and running good.

Any chance that you can help me out by recommending a book or two that you think are good for improving play in Omaha cash?

Thanks in advance and hope you take down the Poker Awards.

Speaking of books, whatever happened to the 'special' Omaha book? Did you ever receive your copies? (Tikay)

In Response to Re: Ask Tikay?:

    Hi Tikay
Would be very grateful if you could give me some possible explanations for the following:

Started playing at Sky back in 2008 as a novice and bumped along the bottom for first 500 or so games, losing about $500 playing low stakes SNG's and MTTs. Finally figured out how to play properly and over the course of the next 350 tourneys went from being -$300 to +$600. Similar experience playing at other sites and everything seemed to be going fine.

Then something changed, although I have no idea what, since I didn't change my style of play or the sort of tourneys I was playing in. My sharkscope graph embarked on a steep decline taking me from +$600 to +$50 over the course of 250 tourneys. The only time it seemed like I could win was in D2Ns where the other players knocked each other out. If I ever went all in on a coin toss I would lose without fail.

I think you have to agree that if we are talking about 100's of tourneys variance is not really a creditable explanation. I am a tight aggressive player and definitely haven't changed my game.  So either something has changed radically in how other people play, making my style somehow unprofitable, or else someone at Sky has put the hoodoo on me.

I would like to analyse my hand histories to see if I am winning the correct proportion of all-ins but that doesn't seem to be possible since Sky do not provide this information in a format I can use. So right now my only option seems to be to quit playing at Sky and only use sites and live games where I do make a profit.

    What do you think?

    rebuy's

    Why has sky started these?

I play poker for fun, when you get a hand then hit the flop, get someone call you, you play good poker and manage to get there chips, they then rebuy again and again, Only to end up on the bubble as the blinds rise. The person who you managed to get there chips actually ends up coming in the money seems unfair, which was the main reason i stopped playing poker on a few other online sites and put my balance into sky. I'm now down to my last few quid and unfortunately even though i enjoy playing in the evenings, especially the well structured TOT and deep stack tourneys, won't be refilling my balance...

If you could let me know why sky has started rebuy's and add-ons i'd be greatful.

    Thanks....

    Hi Wayne.

One of us is confused, probably me -  - do you mean Saturday 2nd Octobr, or Sunday 3rd October?

If - IF - I am not working for 865 that night (be it the Saturday OR the Sunday) I will 100% come up to Halifax & join the fun, & bring a few freebies with me.

I am working Saturdays in September, so, if Attila "rotates us" (or I get canned, you never know....) I MAY have Saturdays off in October (rota not issued yet).

All I can say is that if I am not on 865 duty that night, I WILL come up to Halifax to help support this fine cause.

I don't expect the October Rota's to be issued for a few weeks yet though - I only got my September Rota last week, due to all the changes.
