    Hi droid,

I am looking forward to tikays response, but the general opinion is if you cant beat lower limits dont move up. o can understand what you mean but its hard to judge where you are even at NL4 or lowstakes tourneys i recommend you post in the clinic and dont move up unless you crush the levels below or you have a good bankroll and can drop down the levels etc

Depends whereabouts in London you live, Steve. North, South, out of town? And do you have your own transport?

Hi TK I play reasonable regular, have won a couple of £750's, 3rd twice in the big ones 315k primo and BH, but struggle alot in the early stages against the palyers who call and raise as wide as the mersey tunnel. Should you stick to your normal game or slow down during these stages?  Thanks Michael (Monkey402)

    Hi Steve,

Firstly, I've replied to your PM today, & will see you in Luton, I hope.

Cardrooms that lay Poker in London. Hmm. Not that much choice really.

These are the fully licensed Venues (approved & licensed by the GC)....

The Vic, Edgware Road. Smart Casual, no trainers.

The Empire, Leicester Square. Difficult to get to, & park, poor venue in every way really.

G-Luton. A lovely room in almost every way, so many Sky Poker players there too, but a bit of a trot for you.

    Further afield.....

    Rendezvous Brighton, & Rendezvous/Kursaal, Southend.

    Grosvenor Brighton.

The following do NOT have "full" GC Licences, & I don't actually recommend ANY of them, as a matter of policy, though  Equal Chance in Walthamstow is the only one I do happen to personally trust implicitly.

Equal Chance, St James St, Walthamstow.

The International, Clerkenwell. (Sort of associated with what was the old "Gutshot").

    The Western.

    Full House, Reigate.

In fact, there are dozens of Rooms without full GC Licences, but personally, I cannot recommend any of them. If you choose to attend, be careful, please, they do carry a certain risk.

It depends on your game style, Monkey, & how comfortable you are playing down the streets.

Personally, I pretty much sit-out early doors, & have done for 12 or 15 years now, as the game is so incredibly hard to play when everyone is calling so wide.

In Levels 1 to 4, or 5, we can only lose the Tourney, we cannot win it.

Worth remembering that a 2xUp early doors will only be 1 x Big Blind in the late stages. So by getting involved early, you are risking your entire Tourney for very little worthwhile return.

But, to be fair, some would say the opposite, & get busy early doors. Most of them soon go busto, though.....

Hi Tikay, what level can I avoid donks? money is tight and I've been getting told I'm doing ok by some decent players...supersnedd ... gary qqq and thorpey, I've done a bit of homework since I blew a load of dosh just having fun in 30p games so now I like playing a deep stack or 1 or 2 quid scary but I still find my nice well chosen cards getting battered by some rag ace, should I play less often at higher stakes or should I just go back to the books for a few weeks and learn some more? I suppose what I'm asking is how do I find my level? I don't mind losing every now and then and I don't want to walk all over anyone just a good considered game, I've had some really nice games at 1 or 2 quid but it's cheap and can get a few nutters. cheers droid(tilted)

That is a nice easy one, Ann. I assume it's Ann, yes?

If you find a Level where......

    1) You don't lose much money.

    2) You enjoy yourself.

That's it - stay there. You will be in a very small minority if you can do that.

Too many people chase the dream, & play too big. There's no money, or enjoyment, thataway, none at all. You ever read all the Bad Beat stories on here? Bad Beats NEVER hurt if you play within your means. They hurt like **** if you don't.

The game had a large luck quotient, no matter who you are.

Play at a level you can afford, enjoy yourself, play with a smile, respect your opponents (don't be showing bluffs to show what a clever so & so you are), & if you can do all that, you are ahead of the game, & getting more out of it than many do.

Hi Tikay,              Just wondering, what did you put your £10 bet on, to get into the 12freeroll. And did you win on your deal/no deal game.

    I can't tell you that!

To be honest, it was my first bet with Sky Bet ever. I used to punt big, but I gave up when I started playing poker, so it was a bit of an awkward thing for me to do.

Hi tikay, hope you had a good weekend.  How did the poker go?

Very enjoyable, Steve, but not very successful!

On Saturday, for the first time in over a year, I played the DTD £300. I exited on the very last hand of Day One, but no complaints, I did not play well, or with much imagination. A lovely day though, caught up with so many friends. I think I ended up 45th of 280, or thereabouts.

On Sunday, I played the £100 at Luton, where I can pretty much guarantee to Final most Sundays, though it's a small field.

Very odd evening, & I got in a whole bunch of interesting spots.

    I had 9-9, five way (!), & it came 9-T-2.

I checked, & a geezer bet out, everyone called round to me, I now potted it, for nearly half my stack.

They all pass except a hairdresser called Pino Valentino, he won the Grosvenor Grand Prix a few years back, but he has become a bit of a station of late. He snap-called!

Well, we have to place him on something here? My read was EITHER a set of 10's, or J-Q, so I'm on red alert for a safe turn card.

    The turn was.......an 8.

    Ugh.

I check, he jams, I snap-fold my set of 9's face up, & he shows me his Q-J which had now got there. He can ONLY have that, or a set of tens.

There's a reason for explaining that.....

Guy to my right, a random to me, is awestruck by the Pass. "Amazing, I need to be able to Pass hands like that, though I'm not much of one for calling bets, I prefer to bet big if I have anything". We chat, & we soon agree, all calling stations go skint quickly, serial-calling is a bad bad thing.

Fast forward an hour, & I'm on catch up after the accident with the set of 9's, & it's walked to the Blinds.

My new mate makes up the SB, & I find A-K suited, & it's break time, I just want to kill this hand & get on break. So I jam the lot in, about 12xBB. He can't call from his 15xBB stack. But he does call - his chips were almost in the middle before mine!

Uh-oh, he must have Aces or Kings.

Nope, he has Q-T, & gets there, & that was that, I'm out.

As I get up to go, I shake his hand, "well done m8, good luck", & he says to me "was that a good call?".

    So, I done about £450, & 300 miles.

I've been a little unwell all this week, & so I've swerved  this weekend's UKIPT in Nottingham, to try & get some rest, & catch up on PM's & stuff. And save myelf £560......

    Hi Aggers.

A MTT is a "Multi-Table Tournament". They run at scheduled times, & are regular poker Tournaments with an almost unlimited number of runners, & thus "Multi-Tables".

A "STT" is a "Single Table Tourney". These run at any time, just as soon as all the seats are taken.

I believe you need to use your token in "one go", so select any STT or MTT, & off you go.

Let us know how you get on, please.

    Good luck.

Thank you for your options of poker room's funnily enough i walked past the Empire and walked into the G on Leicester Sq yesterday just because i knew the SPT in Luton was there, to enquire and they only have 2 tables from 930pm-430am with min buy-ins of £14. Luton is about an hour door to door on public transport on a good day so looks like my best bet then. I may try next weekend

Thanks Steve. Yes, I'm feeling a little better today, thank you.

As to the Poker Gods, well they have been as good as gold recently - I had one of my biggest poker wins ever a week or two ago - without even playing a hand. It was in the Aussie Millions, & I never left home, either.......

Life is good, I'm just a little tired at the moment. Sleep ftw.
