In Response to Re: Ask Tikay? : I agree. The one about "sharky" with his head clamped between the jaws of a shark and the sea turning bright claret will remain with me till the day I die. That everyone now calls him "Sharky" is the cherry on the cake. Humour is a wonderful thing. Posted by Seagull158
He's quite a character, & when I started calling him "Sharky", he loved it.
He's a regular at Luton & DTD, so if you are ever there, keep an eye out for him. And if you see him, I'll give you a fiver if you jump up from your seat, point behind him, & say "watch out - SHARK ATTACK"....
It will be massive loss to poker if Tikay fails to write book - I could listen to those stories all day! Posted by Action_Dan
Thank you Dan. I enjoy writing them, too. I've been so lucky, so many unusual things have happened, & I read stuff here & elsewhere which triggers my memory of them.
And when reminded, I write stuff, & could go on & on. And a Red Card to the first one who says I do......
FWIW, I don't agree. Not strongly or violently, more wishily-washily really. It's not as simple as it may seem.
Two examples.
1) If money is added to the more pricey Tourneys - the £20, £25, £30, £50 & above Tourneys, then it discriminates against those who play at the lower Levels. So they'd be miffed - & they represent a large slice of the Customer-Base. Or vice-versa. So if you do it anywhere, you have to do it everywhere. And why do it at all? Adding money is not sustainable, for anyone, because where do you think that Added-Money comes from? Correct, whatever way you look at it, it comes from the Clients.
2) Added-Money would come from the Company Promotional Budget - which is, by the way, huge. The Budget would not be increased, it would just be sliced up a different way. If you add something here, you have to deduct something there, you know how it works. And as Traffic & Uniques are continuing to increase, week on week, as they have been for some time now, it rather suggests that Sky Poker have got the Promotional Spend nicely balanced.
So no, personally, it does not tick many boxes for me. Nice thought, but there is no such thing as "free lunches".
Hallo Tikay...Hope your week-end is going well sir. Here's a question or three for you ( and for anyone else who cares to contribute). What's the longest downswing you've ever been on? What were your feelings at the time? How did you recover from it? Mike Posted by bobcat52
My weekend was "interesting! I was planning to have a soft day on Sunday, but as you know, it kicked off on Saturday night, so I was on firemans duty until 2am, & then spent most of Sunday doing the same, marv. And then I suddenly got asked to do last night's Show, so all in all, & full, & really rather satisfying day was had, & I enjoyed myself, went to bed pleased that the day had gone well.
My longest downswing? About a year, I think, when I was playing the Live Circuit. I managed to exit on the FIRST HAND of not one, but TWO £1,000 Events, both times with Aces, AIPF. In successive weeks.....On one occasion, a 10,000 chip jobbie,, Matey Boy had 5-5!
It continued like that, week after week, month after month, & I played badly because of "fear", & I started to expect my big hands to lose. And they did. Time after time.
How did it end? It just did, just like that, boom, overnight, & I went on a right heater, which was pretty sweet
How did I cope with the downswing? Easy. I don't do things I don't enjoy, & I would have packed the game up if it bothered me, but you should expect downswings in any game which includes a significant luck quotient. You have to get poker in context with the real world, too, so playing poker for me was a bit like letting a kid loose in a sweet factory, & I knew it.Poker is a recreation, & for me, it followed a life in which my job involved heavy & onerous responsibilities, & extremely long hours. And if anyone thinks they are hard done by when playing poker, they just need to watch the news from Haiti, Chile, or wherever.
It also taught me about playing within my bankroll. I was playing for big money then - BIG money - & so the beats pinched a bit. Now I play at levels which are ridic low relative to my 'roll, & I've never enjoyed poker more.
Hi i only started playing two months ago and iv had a bit of success winning a few tournaments including TIKAYS SLEEPSTACK on 24th . I would like to improve my game and would appreciate any tips and reading material you would recommend thanks gazamak
Started a discussion on the forum last week about SKY hosting an SPT here in Ireland. The general feedback was very positve from regular plyers who reside in the U.K. Just wondering what your feelings are on this and how much of a possibility this is ? P.S Thanks for your imput on my play on PRIMO on Sunday and look forward to your views on the matter

Hi Gaza,
It's hard to answer such a wide question as "any tips?", but a few basic guidelines might help. Really, if have a specific question, ask it, & the guys on here will always help out. You alreasy won the tikay sleepie, which shows you have got the basics in place,
But as a general rule, in Tourneys.....
Start tight, then gradually loosen up & widen your ranges.
Don't play too many hands. Those that play most hands soon go busto. Ignoring Blinds, if you play - on average - more than 1 hand per orbit, you are playing too loose.
Try to BET not CALL where possible. Calling-Stations always go busto over time.
Try to MAKE things happen, by finding aggressive situations to force others off better hands, rather than "let things happen", by Calling & hoping you get lucky. The latter is Bingo, not popker.
Never limp or smooth call after Level 4 or 5.
Keep an eye on "where you are" by frequently referring to the Lobby.
Late stages, with less than 10xbb (varies, some, like me, leave it MUCH longer), look for any open spot to shove with atc.
Most of all, enjoy. If you get upset at Bad Beats or bad calls, you are not suited to poker, try Chess.

Hi Torres,
You were a terrific guest on Sunday's Show, thank you.
An SPT in the ROI? I'm sure they will try, but it's quite awkward really, as they don't have established Venues. The Merrion is now closed down, & it's quite tough to hold a third-party Event at The Fitz, as they need to keep their regulars happy. The Sporting Emporium is lovely, but a little small. That apart, it means using a Hotel, & so we'd have to organise Dealers & Tables and such-like, which gets a bit heavy. I've had my fingers burned twice in Ireland when organising third-party Events, so personally, I'm wary.
But I love playing poker in Ireland, & have been playing in & around Dublin for over 10 years now. Julian Threw's family still live there, so they look after me a treat when I'm over, & I get on OK with Andy Black, Donnache, Liam Flood, Alan Smurfit, Roy Brindley, Noel, & I've done charity work out there with Padraig.
So here's the thing. If the SPT cannot get to Ireland next year, I'll come across, & we'll have a weekend of poker somewhere, & try & invite a few lads along.
i was watching the primo tonight and often hear you refer to the big blinds and that if you have 3 or 4 big blinds you should push all in. I personally like to use the effective m number and push all in when im in the red zone, that is to say my m x 6/10 and find this works more effectively. Do you think this is a good strategy or should i be more focusing on 10 big blinds or less. Posted by bigred147
Hi Big,
Enjoyed that Omaha session with you last night!
"M" is just as effective as " BB's", it's the same thing really, but expressed mathemtically.
The reason I bang on about shoving during the Shows, is that I see so many guys who are down to a handful of BB's, & they miss their "spots" to shove. It's a key skill to have, pushing at the right time, & in the optimal spot, but so many struggle with it.
I Think i'm right in Saying that the SPT gets hosted in some G Casinos Tikay but is there / could there be one day a Blackpool Leg???? They have a nice card room after the refurb and it would be nice and close lol
I'm not one for traveling to play so thought i'd enquire if we could just bring you lot to me lol

Yes- if they run the SPT in 2010/11, I would think Blackpool-G is a very possible Venue. They are trying to get everywhere, & that's certainly a lovely Venue, which I enjoy playing in very much. I generally stay in The Marsden, a nice BH & B just across the road, or Big Blue, & I know most of the cardroom regulars up there quite well.
G-Blackpool - "The Sandcastle" is, as you know, an oddity, in that it's acually built on an artificially created bit of land OVER/IN the Sea.
There is ONE other Casino in the UK which shares that oddity - can you name it?

Best of all, I can leave my car at their place & wander across to the Casino.
Can you expand upon the question, please?
