In Response to Re: Ask Tikay? : Channel 865 have not had a Live Show on Monday for over a year as far as I can recall GENERAL, though as a regular viewer I'm sure you knew that. There are in fact very good reasons why they don't broadcast Live Shows 7 nights per week now. I'll pass your best regards onto the Channel Suits, though I'll swerve calling them "a bunch of wallies" if you don't mind, that'd be a tad disrespectful in my book. Take care now. Posted by Tikay10
hi tikay!! just wanted to know if you liked my mad run of hands in last nights tko?? and did you get me moved to another table in the end?? Posted by donkeyplop
That was some heater!
With 3 "aways", including the BB to my SB, you & the BB were the only stacks I could attack. And you woke up with A-A, K-K, K-K, A-K, J-J........
So I "had a word" & got you moved. Blinds were now 200-400, & I had 4,000-ish, so I made a shove with J-8, & the guy who took your Seat called me with A-J.

In Response to Re: Ask Tikay? Double-ended straight draws : Hi Ray Yes you are correct, you are around 32% to hit an open ended straight on the turn, but only 16% on the river, it depends on how much its going to cost you, if you ar 2/1 to hit it, lets say there are 100 chips in the middle and someone bets 50, you have pot odds of 3/1 yes?, and would call hopefully having both pot and draw odds, but if there is are 100 chips in and someone raises 500?, then what are you going to risk those chips to chase the draw? debateable I would probably fold em and wait for a better spot, we all play poker differently the choice is yours, good luck Posted by acebarry10
Cheers AceBarry and Tikay for replying. In all honesty, I'm still a relatively new player and odds are not something I've got my head around yet. Perhaps that's where the problem lies. I'll focus on that part of my game next to get me out of some of the situations I find myself in. Be lucky.
Hello, if it has been asked before please accept my apologies, how long on average do the tournaments ie Bounty Hunter,Deep Stack etc last, 1hr,2hrs whatever,I have a LBT?. Kind regards. Alivehat60
It depends on the anount of runners, a deepstack takes around 4-5 hours, a Bounty Hunter 3-4, a Standard No Limit Holdem 3-5 and 1-3 for the quicker games.
New to all this and jargon PL or NL i assume NL No Limit what is PL? Posted by daley51
Hi Arthur,
Just to expand upon MereNovice's answer.....
The betting structure used in poker can be one of three.
NL - Which is the most common these days, for Hold Em, any way. (NL)
PL - Pot Limit, as mentioned by Mere. (PLHE, PLO etc)
LIMIT - Usually prefixed by "L".
NL is very popular right now, anyone can figure out what to bet, it's a brawn rather than brain thing really, you can use your stack to pressurise players. Not very subtle, but it's fun. Most "younger" players think it's the most skilful variant. Equally, few of them have played PL or L!
PL is used almost always for Omaha, failing which peeps would just play "Omaha Roulette" & shove every hand. It has great subtleties. One problem is that players & dealers these days are not used to having to work out what is in the Pot, & what a pot-size bet is.* The Brits have a very good record at the WSOP in PL Events.
LIMIT. Almost never laid in the UK these days. But go to America, & it's extremely popular. Ditto on Mainland Europe, in Amsterdam for example, during the Master-Classics, there will be 20 Cash-Tables on the go, of which 15 will be "LIMIT". LIMIT is used a lot in Stud, it makes for tremendous fun & skill, & it forms part of any HORSE Event.
* Pot Limit, what is a pot sized bet? It's the sum total of what is in the Pot already, plus your call, add that lot up, & the answer is your Bet, or Raise. First to act, or in an unopened Pot, it is 7 times the Small Blind. How so?
Well, assume the Blinds are 100-200.
The SB is in - 100 - the BB is in - 200, now we add our CALL, & that lot comes to (100 + 200 + 200) = 500. So the max bet we can make is 500, add to that our "call", & that's 700, or 7 x SB.
If someone has LIMPED already, it is NINE times the SB. (100 + 200 + 200 + our Call of 200) = 700, so, our RAISE is 700, which together with our 200 Call = 900, or 9xSB.
Players will never agree on what is the most skilful, it's just each to their own really. Sadly, the majority of Online & Live Poker in the UK is NL, & so the skills & subtleties of PL & L are disappearing.
I see you've been enlightening one of the less experienced guys on the ins and outs of the various forms of the poker family. As you say Tikay, Limit or 'Fixed Limit Poker' is not as popular as No Limit in this country. Possibly now because we're used to the fast and exciting no limit game, the youngers players today being fed on an almost exclusive diet of NL.
As you mention it seems to be more popular in Europe and also across the pond. The dynamics of the game seem to be far different in limit poker as opposed to the NL game with the emphasis more on calculation of odds as once again, opposed the 'let's shove'em all-in and see if you dare call me' mentality that exists certainly more in the low level NL tournaments.
On a certain site that provides a regular limit freeroll hosting a 9000 player line up you can find a regular contingent of NL players in the early level employing no limit tactics of raise and re-raise etc in the hope that their hand wins. When I can be bothered with these I just generally sit back for the first 20 minutes and let them slaughter each other.
I find I like [ and have a little more sucess] playing limit but I find that the ony place I can get a game these days is on the above mentioned site. No Limit is OK but if you make a big mistake in your read on someone or you're up against some snottie kid who wipes out your 3 aces with a miracle hand you're out the door but with limit if you make a mistake the first time you can always pinch your chips [and then some] back subsequently.
Years ago, when I first played Fixed Limit Stud Tourneys (over in Sweden), I was taught, & realised, that you pretty much sit-out in the early Levels. Same as any Tourney for me, really.

Two of them were questions, (with "you are a bunch of wallies" for added value) which I answered patiently, politely & fully.
Two of them were your replies to me, both identical - see above.
I trust you will not look too unkindly on me if I fail to reply to future questions from you.
I think we should rename you Mr Erudite.

Good Post Mike.

Hi Teddy.
The best 5 cards win so AKQJ9 beats AKQJ6, by virtue of the better kicker, which plays.
So the answer is A-9.
I believe it is a split pot.
n Response to Re: Ask Tikay?:
BOTH players have A-A-K-Q-J. neither kicker plays.
Its a split pot, they are both playing the best 5 cards AAKQJ
