    Hi

In poker it is always the best 5 cards, 1 or two from your hand and 3 or 4 from the flop turn and river, in this case it is AAKQJ neither the 9 nor 6 play because there are 5 higher cards.

In Hold 'Em, it is 0, 1 or 2 from your hand and 5, 4 or 3 from the community cards.
It varies in other forms of poker, e.g, in Omaha it must be 2 from your hand and 3 community cards.

Hi Tikay, hope all's well. Just wondered if you've ever played in (or fancy playing in) any tournaments that are televised? (eg, Late Night Poker, Poker Million etc..etc).

    Hi Teddy.

    Well they both say wrong!

    Work it out for yourself.

In Hold Em, it's the best FIVE CARD hand combined from the 5 Community Cards & your two hole cards.

So, in the case you cite, BOTH players have identical hands, & neither of them can use their "kickers". Because the BEST FIVE CARDS count.

No, hardly ever (see below), & I never want to either. Not because they are bad or anything, but because, by their very nature, they are fast-structured, & I don't have the game to play fast-structured stuff, I need a slower structure. And I'm not good enough, or balla enough, to take on the big boys these days anyway, so it'd be shocking "value" for me.

"that are televised" could mean 2 things. "Made for Television" (such as Matchroom produce, or Poker Million etc), or Tourneys that are televised.

A few years back, I was the "Ambassador" for another Site, & we did a lot of stuff together. They sponsored a Tourney - the "London Poker Masters", at The Gutshot, & that was a "televised Tourney". It was £500 Entry, which my sponsor paid. Suffice to say, I was pretty pleased & proud, with my Sponsor, & the TV cameras watching, to come 2nd for £18,000. 2nd place was actually "only" £15,749, but we did some "business", so I took £18,000.

Two weird sidebars to that. I was running a Live Update for my "other site" (the one I still have) at The Vic that weekend, & we had some staff issues, & I was shuttling between the Vic & The Gutshot all weekend. I never went to bed for 3 days straight, in fact. And it showed, on the TV Cameras, I looked like I had not slept in 3 days, & I was a bit embarrassed for my then Sponsor. I don't look good on the berst of days, but I was in dreadful shape on that occasion, & I sort of regret it in a way. When you get Sponsored, you should give your all, & I fell a bit short imo.

The other oddity was that a Norweigan guy at The Vic, Rolf Wood, owed me a few favours, I'd got him out of a hole in Sweden previously, & again in Barcelona, just did him a favour like. So he wanted to repay me. And he did so by insisting he buy a 20% stake in me in that Event at The Gutshot. I tried to refuse, as I never sell bits of myself, almost never have before or since, (it is a common practice on the circuit), but he insisted. So he got 20% of me. And so 20% of £18,000.....

Which was fine. The Gutshot never paid me in cash, they gave me a kite, which I banked the next day. Rolf rung me that night, "well done, da de da, where's my £3,600?". I told him I don't usually carry a £3,600 wedge around with me, he'd have to wait a few days until I could get my hands on some pound notes. He was going home to Norway, & insisted I pay him instantly. So we sort of fell out about it.......he ended up threatening to send the boys round! The Gutshot cheque cleared my bank 3 days later, & wrote to him in Norway, & asked for some bank details to pay him. It was awkward, as it had to be translated to the right currency, which I offered to do at "spot". He did not agree with "spot", & thought I was fiddling him out of £30 or £40, & so it went on. Ugh. Poker players & money, there's nowt stranger, but you soon suss who your real friends are.

So, I'd done him a favour, he repaid that by buying a stake in me which I never wanted him to do (my Entry was paid by my Sponsor!), that "favour" cost me £3.5k, & we fell out about it. Marvellous. The irony is amazing.

Made for TV Tourney? Yes, there was one, & that is a story in itself, but I'll return to that later, today if time permits, but no promises. I've just been asked to do tonight's Show, & there are "some issues" to attend to on the Forum, so bear with me please.

A GREAT question, I love being reminded of these tales & episodes in my poker life, & I love writing about them. Thank you.

Lol! Well it depends what price you got......

I wonder what price City were to win 4-2 at the Bridge yesterday?

Good Luck with the bet anyway bud. If the price reprersented value, it would be worth a punt I'm sure, it is not as cut & dried as most think, though I'd have to favour United, especially if anyone would give me even money. ;)

So no, you're not mad. Not away from the poker Table, anyway......

I agree. The one about "sharky" with his head clamped between the jaws of a shark and the sea turning bright claret will remain with me till the day I die. That everyone now calls him "Sharky" is the cherry on the cake. Humour is a wonderful thing.

Thanks Tikay, very interesting. Strange how some friends behave when there's money in the equation. As you say, you find out who your real ones are!
I won't bother digging through Pokertube trying to find you butting heads with Devilfish and the like ;-)

Hallo Tikay...Hope your week-end is going well sir.

Here's a question or three for you ( and for anyone else who cares to contribute).

What's the longest downswing you've ever been on?

What were your feelings at the time?

How did you recover from it?

    Mike

Tikay..........Loved your reminiscence on shall we say, 'trying to burn the candle at both ends' and your shuffling [or should that be stumbling by day three?] between the Vic and the Gutshot, Classic!

As for you 'friend' Rolf at least you knew afterwards where you stood with him. Like you say, sometimes mates and money don't mix!

Just waiting for the book to come out!

i was watching the primo tonight and often hear you refer to the big blinds and that if you have 3 or 4 big blinds you should push all in. I personally like to use the effective m number and push all in when im in the red zone, that is to say my m x 6/10 and find this works more effectively. Do you think this is a good strategy or should i be more focusing on 10 big blinds or less.

    Hi Guys,

I've just finished the 4 hour Live Show, & it's been "a bit" of a day today, so I'll pick up on these questions first thing on Monday.

    Take care now.

No - but you are £100 poorer!

And, if we listen to Mr O'Neill, "you wuz robbed"!

Has to be said, how hot is Rooney right now? And that run of headers is almost surreal. Good headers, too, not just hit & hope bullets, he's perfected that most difficult of tricks, the looped header.
