In Response to Re: ABC of DYM's, by JOHNCONNOR : Hi there, nice run. No you shouldn't have had an email yet, I haven't anyway. We may not even get one tbh, I can't remember. Just keep an eye out in the lobby as it should be this Sunday evening. Posted by JohnConnor
OK thanks just was worried I had been left out lol
I know i'm very unlikely to make a good run in such a tourney, but I respect that there is a chance so it's an opportunity i'd hate to miss!
Hi there, just discovered your blog today and have very much enjoyed the contents. I will follow your progress. Have you ever found that after a break from the game, it takes a while to get back into it. I play only the small games and the occasional hi lo which I really like, but these past couple of weeks, I have been having a really hard time with the discipline, I know I am doing wrong, but do it anyway - really silly I know. Mind you I am an inexperienced player at both hold em and hi lo. I joined in a couple of your dyms today, an education in itself John. Thank you Nads

Hi Nads, thank you for the kind words, really glad you enjoyed the blog.
To be honest with you, I don't find it hard to get back into it having had a break, This could be because I spend such a large percentage of my poker time playing DYMs that the strategies are deeply embedded in my brain. Or it could be that I play virtually every day and never really have breaks of more than 24 hours (although I recently had a full week off - my longest break by far). Or both, I'm not sure.
I do find it hard, though, when I mix disciplines sometimes as you say you do. Below I've c+p'd an extract from an answer I gave earlier in the thread about the difficulties of mixing disciplines. It's just a couple of suggestions tbh, but I hope you find them useful:
"One thing I found useful on occasion was to just sit there before starting a session and ask yourself, "Am I in the right mindset (i.e. DYM/Cash/MTT whatever) to play these now". Making up (even writing down if necessary) specific scenarios may help certain players here. E.g. Ask yourself, "what will I do if I am dealt pocket 2s UTG first hand?" or "what will I do if someone shoves into me and I have 15BB's holding AK?" To continue the example for the first question one players answers may be as follows:
DYM: open fold Cash: raise MTT: limp in to try and see a cheap flop
So long as you are getting the answers right (according to your own strategies) this should help you separate the disciplines.
The other thing is, I would really recommend only playing one discipline at a time. It can get quite confusing trying to juggle 2 different disciplines (e.g. DYM and Cash) and I imagine 3 would be something of a nightmare. This is an easy adjustment to make and I would even recomend doing it as far as possible. What I mean is, don't just say, "I'm only playing DYMs in this session". Try to say instead, "I'm only playing DYMs today/this week/whatever". The less often you mix it up the easier it should be, in my opinion. Of course it may not be practical for players to do this and they may not want to, it is only a suggestion."
Only a very small session of 5.50s I am going to be 2-tabling them atm, with my computer crashing often I am not comfortable having much more then £10 at stake at any one time... So far 4 games, 4 wins Bankroll: £257.66 EDIT: Just typed you into "Find a Player" and saw the TSP final has popped up and i'm already registered as well, so no worries there. Great progress there PF. Hope you can sort your computer out, I feel your pain there mate. Prior to starting again I had a couple of occassions where I loaded up £200+ of DYMs only to lose connection and be sat out the duration of them all. Pretty soul destroying tbh.
Hello again Just a note to thank you so much for your quick response, it is much appreciated and I will of course take note. All the very best for the future, I will keep reading with much interest. Thank you again Kind regards Nads
Just had one of those frustrating sessions where I could never quite pull away and get ahead. Ran slightly -EV too which didn't aid my frustration. Happy enough with the result though, given the circumstances. I did notice that the general standard tonight in the £1.15s was pretty decent, not many early knockouts or blow ups. I did witness one world class fold which is easily the best I've seen in such a low stakes DYM:

My plan is to buy a brand new computer if SKY ever make RESIZABLE TABLES like every other **** site, then I could multitable seriously,... on a 32inch TV...
Out of interest why don't you just pay for a better/more reliable connection?
Played 2 more, soft, standard games.
Bankroll £266.66 + £30 C4P pending 150 points so far this month

hi JC, thanks for mentioning my mega fold on here, this is the full version from my hand history. I do stand by my decision to make such a big lay down last night even though I had to continue the game 400 chips down, my read was right, I had put at least one of the shovers on a set and to find that I had made the correct fold just proved to me how far I have come in dym play over the last few months with your help and advice. Thank you

Hi Dennis, thanks very much mate. It was you who convinced me to go back to DYMs way back when I was a lost soul in the poker world (on your low stakes specialist thread). Thanks again.

Hi PF. The connection is slightly out of my hands as I live at home with my parents still. We are in contract with the current provider who are turning out to be OK, but would never be my first choice having had them. I've spent loads on equipment trying to resolve my probs mate (new comp, router, powerline adapters etc). Now I have a 'superhub' in a new location near my PC, and pay for 100mb broadband every month. I just think the ISP isn't the most reliable out there, it could be my house or anything, though, for all I know. When I move out (hopefully not too far in the future) I'll be looking for the most reliable option I can find. I've seen some interesting (not expensive) business packages from BT I think it was.
With regards to the tv option you're planning you may know more than me, I don't know. But as I understand it TV screens aren't the way to go. Resolution is far more important than size. There are some very decent options out there though. Mine is a Hanns G 28" and I can 12 table comfortably. It was £250 but maybe cheaper now.
Keep up the good work anyway, your BR is looking good :-)

Wow usually when I take a speed test it says 0.65 :S
Gotta be Talk Talk Ohh no, I was just hoping that would work lol
I'll have to look that up, I still live with my parents too and that's also part of the reason I havn't already bought a new computer.
Thanks, my current plan is to play somewhere between 50 and 100 at the £5.50 level and move up to the £11s if I like my results
Shame about your connection troubles, hope they get resolved eventually : )
