So that's it, poker done for 2017. Overall it has been a successful year with a combined profit of over £1,650. The highlights have been winning the Super Sunday Mini in May, for £930, a win in The Quickdraw in August, for over £700, and another win in The Quickdraw in June, for over £650. On the Cash front finishing the year without losing money in November and winning money in December have given me the belief that I may be able to become a winning cash game player. I will be resetting my playing stats as we begin 2018 and I intend to spend 2018 really focusing on cash with the aim of getting up to the 50nl tables by the end of the year. I will be starting on 1st Jan 4-tabling 10nl. I will also play the odd MTT and I will be aiming to play as many SPT's as I can, starting with the Manchester leg in February. All the best for 2018 to all the readers of this thread and may it be a prosperous and happy year for you all!

What a difference two games in football can make. As a Villa fan its the same old topsy turvy story, one minute doom and gloom the next on the crest of a wave. After a hard fought, and somewhat dull, 3 points at Boro we did what I believed we were always capable of and played the best we have for a long time in defeating Bristol City 5-0. The catalyst for this, as I previously alluded to, was the dropping of Whelan to give us a far more attacking set up and the emergence of a certain Jack Grealish. A home grown lad who has so much potential but needs to start showing it. Well he certainly did in this game with probably his best performance in a Villa shirt to date. Along with Scott Hogan starting to show why we paid £12m for him. With Terry, Lansbury and Andre Green all returning to fitness and more than likely available for selection in our next league game, we have a real chance of aiming for automatic promotion now. We are currently five points adrift of Derby in second and have all of the top clubs still to play at home, having played them all away. The hope has to be that Bruce sticks with the same attacking and pressing style of play he adopted for the Bristol game and does not fall back into his old ways. On the poker front 2018 has started somewhat similarly to 2017, doing OK in MTT's and losing at cash. I have played 18 MTT's so far and managed to satellite into the Main and the £22, £1k BH. My best result so far being a 4th in a £11, £750 BH. Tonight I will again be focusing on MTT's although one of my New Year Poker Resolutions is to not enter a MTT above the £11 limit.
A position I keep finding myself in, in MTT's, and would like some help with is the following.
1. Having raised pre-flop with a large pocket pair and got called the flop comes with a lower pair and a straggler. e.g. I've got QQ, flop is 8,8,3. What's best course of action? Lead out or check-raise. My problem is that if I lead out I'm only getting called by a better hand. If I check I am leaving the villain the chance of hitting a higher pair.
2. Having raised pre-flop with a small pocket pair and got called the flop comes with a higher pair and a straggler. e.g. I've got 77, flop is 10,10,3. What's best course of action? Lead out, check-raise or check-fold.

With regard to spot number 1. I think there are plenty of worse hands that will call, I'm almost always cbetting here and I'm betting quite small to try and induce a raise. The times you are ahead will far outweigh the times you have ran into an 8x or overpair. It depends on reads and stack sizes but if this was mid stages onwards then I'm going broke.
2. I'm cbetting most times too but betting bigger. I don't want to see a turn card.
3. The better players will probably rip this to shreds but that's my opinion.
Having read a few threads lately where DYM's seem to be the game of choice I decided to give them a try this afternoon. I have never really thought of DYM's being the way to go but when I think about it they may well suit my style. I like action and sometimes find MTT's really test my patience. Cash games on the other hand don't have a finish point which I believe also hinders my game as the competitive side of me likes to be a winner. So I have tried my luck at £3.30, £5.50 and £11 DYM's. The game I enjoyed the most and succeeded at were the £11 Turbo DYM's and going forward this will be my game of choice for the moment. For all those DYM regs out there any tips would be useful and what do you consider an achievable ROI. Surprise, surprise Villa are managing to lose at home to League One Peterboro in the FA Cup. Maybe a blessing in disguise if we go on and get promoted ;-) Will be back on the DYM tables lately so see you on there if your playing.

I've been continuing with the DYM's over the last few days and have ended up focusing on the £10 Turbo DYM's. I started 4-tabling these but for the last three sessions I have dropped down to just 2-tabling. I have found that nearly every hand puts you in a place where a decision has to be made and found that when 4-tabling I was probably missing opportunities. I am really enjoying these and think it is due to the fact you have to make a decision every hand that it keeps you focussed. I've made a decent start with a ROI of over 10% on the 87 I have completed. I am also amazed at how quickly you rack up points in this format and managed a 48th in The Pentagon Green League for week 1 giving me an additional £8, Thank You SKY. I have actually swopped in to the Blue League for week 2 and we will see how that pans out. Work has returned to normality and we are in the process of recovering the shop and getting back to the standard after the hectic festive period. The only problem with is that the powers that be expect everything done yesterday whilst due to the slower than normal sales at this time of year give you no wages to get anything done. One unusual sight at work has been me in a jumper. In the past five years I think you could count on one finger the number of occasions I have worn a jumper, I just find they get in the way and restrict my movement. This last week though I have come down with an extreme case of manflu, that extreme that I actually went to the Drs, again an occurrence that you could count on one finger in the last few years. I must have had an extreme case of manflu as I was actually prescribed anti-biotics and told to rest. Obviously the medical profession have little understanding of how retail management works. Our dream of getting a Cockerpoo is becoming closer to a reality and hopefully tomorrow my daughter will find out when she starts her study leave for her A-Levels and we can have a definitive date for the collection of said puppy. I have to say that I did not realise how hard it would be to choose a suitable name. Having discounted Mable, our lass has some funny ideas, we are currently on Tilly, much to my daughter's dismay. If anyone has any suggestions, needs to be a girl's name, relatively cute apparently, cannot be anyone we know, must be liked by our lass, my daughter and her friends and for some reason the Mother in Law.

Experienced the real highs and lows of the Turbo DYM last night. I've been solely playing the £10 Turbos for the last few nights and after 9 games last night had won 1 and lost 8. This started to get doubt creeping into my mind and I wasn't playing very well at all, making to many speculative calls / shoves. At this point I came very close to calling it a day but decided to re-focus and plough on. This turned out to be a great decision as I went on a run of winning 13 out of 14 including a streak of 11 on the bounce. Was wondering what the longest winning streak is that anyone has experienced. Ended up winning 17 of the 30 I played so despite an horrendous start I managed to post a small profit on the night. I have also consolidated my position in the Blue League and currently sit in 24th place on 668 points for a potential £40. Hoping for a Wednesday win tonight followed by a Villa victory at Forest tomorrow afternoon. Dog date has now been set as May 14th, as I have booked this week off and my daughter will then be on study leave. 'Willow' is currently the favourite although 'Winnie' has suddenly appeared on the scene.

Broke my 2018 MTT duck this afternoon with a win in a £11, £400 Bounty Hunter, for the princely sum of £161. Was particularly pleasing as entered the Final Table as short stack and was the very short stack when we got to 3 handed. Looked like it wasn't going to be my lucky day when Heads Up as I twice got rivered for the victory before finally getting there at the third time of asking. Also been continuing with the £11 Turbo DYM's, more as a result of featuring in the top 50 of the Blue League in the Pentagon Promo, currently 24th for £40 with just today to go. Think I will probably be giving these a rest next week and focusing back on MTT's. Although they do rack up the points, currently on £25 rakeback for the week which is my most ever, they are very reg infested and there doesn't appear to be a massive edge to be had. Villa obliged yesterday afternoon with a very professional and convincing 3 points and now have a relatively easy run of games coming up, if there is such a thing in The Championship. With all the clubs in the top 6 still to come to Villa Park and no more away games against any of the top 6 we have given ourselves a real chance of Second. Our final home game of the season to Derby could be massive. Hoping to get to a few games in the next couple of months with us getting decent allocations hopefully at Sunderland, Bolton and Sheff Wed along with some crucial home games against Birmingham, Wolves, Cardiff, Leeds and Derby. Contemplating trading my car in for a 2010 BMW 3 series MSport Business Edition with 45k miles on the clock. Owned a 3 series previously but got rid of it when I got it up to 80k miles. Probably the best and certainly nicest car to drive I have owned and I am sorely tempted to go for another one. Probably going to have a look on Thursday and see what deal I can get. If I can get it for £2k plus mine I will probably go for it.

Played a few MTT's over the last couple of days with the highlight, if you can call it that, being 2 Bounties in a £11 BH. Reflecting on how I played I think I have been playing to aggressive and been representing hands too often only to be representing what the villain actually held. Think I am also running a bit the bad side of variance at the moment but hopefully this will change tonight when I aim to play a bit more conservatively and try to put myself in less difficult situations. That's a hint to anyone I meet on the tables tonight that if I bet I have it, if I don't bet I don't have it. That's the plan anyway. This is the 3 Series I went to look at today and I have to say it probably looks better in the picture than in real life. Got a decent offer for my part exchange and going to mull it over for the next couple of days.
I am in the fortunate position of not needing to buy a new car and it is more about whether I want to and whether it makes financial sense to. We will have to wait and see.

Really don't want to turn this in to a diary of 'Bad Beats' but I do feel like I am experiencing the nasty side of variance at the moment. It seems that every exit hand I am experiencing at the moment I am getting it in good but just not holding up. What seems to make it worse is that they always seem to be for pots that would put me in a healthy position in terms of the MTT dynamic. If anyone reading this, (assuming someone does), has any feedback on how I have played recently when on their table it would be appreciated. I do have a feeling I am still playing to aggressively in certain situations but again I am not sure whether long term this will prove to be the right play and that at the moment I am just running badly in terms of villains hitting. On the plus side I have managed to bink a seat, through a sat, into the Super Sunday and I am really looking forward to playing this. I have a week off work and intend to play a fair few MTT's this week but will be sticking to a max buy in of £11 until the luck starts to turn. One aim for this week is to try and win a seat into SPT Manchester for the Saturday Day1. I have a few jobs around the house to complete, bit of re-grouting, tidy garden touching up of paintwork and then I am off to Liverpool University on Saturday with my daughter to sort out her accomodation etc for when she goes there next year, dependant on exam results. Just had the good news that she has passed her driving test this morning so that will hopefully mean that the chauffeur becomes the passenger going forward. Having decided against the BMW shown above I have decided to go with the following instead, and get to pick it up Friday hopefully. I have bought it from a main chain of People who sell Cars in the North and haven't actually viewed it or driven it yet. As the car is currently in Warrington they have agreed to move it to the Wakefield branch for me and I have paid a small deposit to take it off the market in the meantime. Always fancied one of these, a Tourer, and despite 'Our Lass' not being a huge fan of Estates I have convinced her that it makes perfect sense with the impending arrival of Willow, the soon to be new canine member of our clan, and our daughter treking back and forth to Liverpool from October, hopefully.
On the footie front it was another good 3 points for the Villa and a certain Mr Grealish is starting to realise his potential whilst Mr Hogan is now threatening to become the great Villa goalscoring legend I always thought he was capable of. Hope that Jac35 is starting to worry as I think that second place may come down to the result of Villa - Derby towards the end of the season.

Two quick BH's this afternoon. Two standard exits as the Poker God's continue to laugh at me. The second one they are really, really laughing. Onwards and Upwards!
Managed to qualify for Day 1B of SPT Manchester from a £10.50 Quarter. Have to say these Sats are the most nerve racking I have played in, probably something to do with the fact I really wanted to qualify for this. Got really lucky in the Semi when we were down to 4 handed, 3 qualified, and I ended up all-in with AQ against AK. Gives me the perfect start to a 10 day break from work beginning on that Saturday and I am really looking forward to finally meeting some of the people from the forums and tables. Apart from that its been a funny few days on the tables. I have had a 1st and a 3rd in £200 BH's, an 8th in a 7at 7 and a 5th in Tuesday's Mini. After the 5th in the Mini only returned £89 I did question the merit in playing MTT's and headed back to the cash tables, wrong decision! I really wish I could get to grips with cash as the saying 'Tourneys for show, cash for dough' is really ringing true with me at the moment. The next couple of days will be poker free as tomorrow I have a few jobs to do including picking up the new car which I have tested and had a look round today. As expected it drives really well and looks stunning. What really made me know it was the right car was the little added extra of an integral dog guard that I was unaware of. It appears it will be perfect for Willow when she arrives and as I was looking on e-bay for these very things the night before I believe fate has played a hand. Saturday I am at Liverpool Uni with my daughter all day and then out on the beer in Almondbury with a few friends. Sunday I will playing the Super Sunday which I qualified for at the beginning of the week and maybe the Mini alongside it. The figures below are a bit skewed at the mo as they include the returns from the Super Sunday and SPT sats. Hopefully a few bounties and a cash on Sunday will see them move into a true positive. Anyway off to bed now and dreams of taking the SPT down.

Onwards and Upwards!
BOOM!

See you in Manchester 😊
Nice looking motor that. Beemers reliable to an unbelievable degree.
Good luck on Super Sunday, & well done on the SPT seat, see you in Manchester.
Might just try & get a photo of you & Jac35 together as you do battle in the Championship.
That would be fine as long as you take it with Jac looking up at me so as to represent the end of season table.
