Below is a hand from last night's Main Event. What would you do? What do you put Villain1 and Villain2 on? I have no notes on either and the table has only been together for about 10 hands.
Firstly, thank you for all the feedback on the above hand. I will be personally replying to each and everyone of you who took the time. At the moment my poker is a bit 'ummm' with a few small cashes and a number of fails. My best result recently being a 10th in the Main on Monday having qualified through a satellite. In a bit of a quandary what to focus on at the moment cash or MTT's. When you look at the stats provided by PokerSuperHero it becomes apparent that the 100th best player on Sky has made a profit of £3k so far this year from MTT's. That's roughly £300 profit a month for being the 100th best player on here. I am currently showing a profit of £1,640 so far this year or a profit of £180 per month. Doesn't seem a lot does it. With this info in mind I started thinking is Cash the area I should be focusing on. When you break it down I would probably average around 5,000 hands of cash a week, 4 tabling. Lets assume I make a profit of 2BB/100 at the 10nl level. This would give me a profit of £20 per week or £80 per month. This assumes I make a profit of 2BB/100, which is not a foregone conclusion given that 95% of cash players don't make a profit. I am also better at MTT's than Cash, have a tendency to get bored grinding the cash tables and make stupid mistakes with a history of tilting. But as Christmas approaches I will have less time to play and hence the appeal of cash. When you look at the maths it has to be MTT's.

I would just raise pre rather than flat the button. I am still calling once two all ins.

Thanks for the reply. What's your thinking behind raising pre? I would of thought its better to see the flop if possible, in position, and then go from there. If there's no A or K on the flop I'm behind most of the time and can get away to fight another day.
Don't mind the flat, assuming it was to induce something from the blinds. It has, so despite not being in love vs 2 people all in, I think you'll still be in decent shape here. Pretty important that the original raiser folded too, I think we can mostly cap their ranges.
With AK, at the mid to late stages in an MTT, we often want to see all 5 cards or none at all. It is such a battering ram of a hand, its just generally not as effective if you take a passive line with it.
Having around 30bb or so and AK in an MTT is always a nice spot to pile the chips in.

Sometimes we can win whats out there and when our opponent has 3x pre and has one caller this is a decent situation. If they flat pre we play a pot in position with the pre flop initiative and we can win when we havent hit. For example our opponent peels a pair and there are overcards to that pair and we have 3b pre it makes it hard for them to continue. With your approach you will only tend to win when you hit the flop.
In the last week I have played a fair few MTT's, with my best result being a 1st in a £500 Bounty Hunter last Thursday for a return of £110. Also managed to qualify for a couple of Main Events through the satellites but never really got anywhere, with my best being a 59th in last night's Marksman. What I have realised is my middle game needs work. I tend to get off to really good starts and then as the bubble approaches I seem to go downhill. What was good in this afternoon's £22, £500 Bounty Hunter was that I was sat on the same table as one of the best, if not the best, MTT player on this site. I think I gained a lot from watching his play and the way he managed his short stack taking care of every single chip. Hoping to put this in practice tonight when I plan to play the £1000 BH at 6:30pm, 7 at 7, and probably the Main and Mini, although this may depend on how I go in the Main Semi I am currently playing. Continuing to watch The Wire and now on the last series where the storyline has focused away from the main point of the 1st series where it was all about drugs and cops. Also watching Tin Star, with the Mrs, and have enjoyed it so far, although it has made us realise how desperate we are to live with a view. The scenery where it is set is unbelievable. Will then be watching Walking Dead. I have previously watched this and got about half way through it before it was pulled of Netflix. Peaky Blinders is also due to return to our screens and this is one I will definitely watch as is in my top 3 series of recent years.

Succumbed to the draw of the Cash tables this past few days and after a couple of winning days I have lost that and some more. I really do believe I have the game to win at cash eventually but my profit, or lack of it, suggests I don't. The problem for me is I don't know whether I am playing poorly or just suffering from the dreaded variance. When I review the hands I have lost the biggest pots on I don't see any obvious leaks in my game, apart from maybe over-valuing top pair, Ace kicker on the flop. I think I play relatively tight and try to play in position. I do have a tendancy to over-value suited connectors pre-flop and going forward need to focus on playing these in position. I also have a feeling I am playing to many hands from the blinds and need to be far more selective on my opening range from these positions. The other thing I am going to start doing is to leave the tables for 10 minutes whenever I lose a pot of £10 or more whilst playing on the 20nl tables. The reason for this is that I although I think I play relatively level headed I do sometimes suffer from a touch of tilt after losing a decent pot. At the moment I am playing the £24, £15k Sunday Major Early Semi and depending on how this goes will dictate what I end up playing this evening. Watched the Villa at Wolves last night and the result was a fair reflection on the game. I think Wolves are probably the best team in the division at the moment and any kind of result for us last night would of been a bonus. October was always going to be a tough month for us with Wolves away, Fulham home, Blues away and then Preston away on Weds 1st Nov. If after these 4 games we are in or around the Play-Offs then I think we will be in a position to kick on for the rest of the season. Looking forward to the Preston away game as I will be making the trip to Deepdale, love an evening away day. At work the dreaded Halloween aisle is in full flow. As this comes under my remit it is the worst seasonal aisle of the year. Why? I hear you ask. Because kids will be kids, and adults will be adults. Put a few bays of masks on display and it becomes impossible for the normally reserved, quiet shoppers amongst us to walk by without trying them on. Now I am a reasonable man and understand this primal urge has to be satisfied. But why oh why is it that as part of that urge there is a necessity to not only try every mask on but to throw them on the floor. Today the weather here in 'God's County' has been more like Summer than Autumn and I have been able to give the garden it's Autumn makeover in glorious sunshine and been on a walk through the lovely surrounding countryside, popping in for a piece of Coffee and Walnut cake and a pot of tea at the local garden centre. It's on days like today that you feel glad to be alive and realise how fortunate you are to live in such a wonderful location as Skelmanthorpe.

I hate cash, I'm useless at cash, I can't win at cash, but I am addicted to it and sooooooo want to be good at it. I've played two sessions of cash today at 20nl and have lost the princely sum of over £120. A lot of the damage was done this morning when one player was running golden and just seemed to hit every hand he played against me, often on the river. I was on two tables with him and he was sat with stacks of £115 and £95, which are both impressive stacks on a 20nl table. I then played a bit tonight and overvalued my 2 pairs a couple of times on boards where the villain had hit his straight on the flop. When you look at the 20nl tables in the lobby you see the same names on all the tables, a sure sign the 20nl tables are full of competent regs. The 10nl tables however seemed littered with different names and stacks that are below the max table limit. For this reason I will be dropping down to 10nl to hopefully find some easier opponents and gain a bit of confidence on the cash tables. Did play a few MTT's on Sunday night and got a few decent results, notably a 3rd in 7at 7, a 25th in the Mini and a 17th in the £1500 BH. All that good work has been undone on the **** cash tables, but one thing I am is a trier and I am determined to beat the cash game, starting tomorrow.

The cash tables are an utter reg fest at the moment with the Micro Madness and Cash Kings rake races running concurrently. Good table selecting is one of the most profitable things you can do in cash games so if you can avoid scratching that itch until the end of the month the whole scenario may look a fair bit rosier. Oh, and good work on the tourney front!
"....Today the weather here in 'God's County'" I never knew you lived in Derbyshire? Posted by Tikay10
Although Derbyshire has some nice parts, we did look at moving to Matlock in years gone by, it is not, never has been and never will be ‘God’s County’. This honour falls to Yorkshire I am afraid. If you don’t believe me ask a certain Geoff Boycott and I’m sure he will put you right.
I am also pretty sure that if Derbyshire was the one true ‘God’s County’ the saying would include the word ‘Duck’ and as it dosen’t I am afraid your claim is proved inaccurate.
Whereabouts in Derbyshire are you from or currently reside at?
A lot has been happening in the last week and I could easily block the forum if I went into a 'Markycash' resume. I will spare you all this and summarise the past week. My Dad, 88 years old, is currently staying and I have taken the week off to spend some time with him. As a result we have been to Yorkshire Sculpture Park, National Railway Museum and AFC Emley to name a few of the things we have done. The National Railway Museum must be one of the best, if not the best, free museums available to the public. I think my Dad could of easily spent 3 days in there but he does have the propensity to read every single piece of written work that is available to read. As my daughter commented 'Why is Grandad reading the planning application on that lamppost'. AFC Emley was an experience I think he enjoyed although the standard of play was certainly way down on the last 2 seasons. I think the plan at the club ahs been to put together a very young team who will hopefully gel and come good over the next couple of years. In theory a good idea, but in the Northern leagues, packed with coal mining types, a risky strategy and to be truthful they got bullies at times last night. There was a spell of 20 mins at the beginning of the second half where they played well and put some good moves together. At the end of the day they lost 2-0 to Eccleshill Utd with both goals coming from controversial, to say the least, penalty decisions. On the poker front I haven't been playing a lot and when I have been playing I have started to dabble on the PLO cash tables. This started with £9 in my account, playing one table on my phone, at the 10p tables. Within 2 hours I was sat at a £1 table and was all in, heads up, for a pot of £360. Despite being ahead post flop, my hand didn't hold and I lost. Going forward I will be starting to track my performance on these table separately to my Cash game performance. I have to say I have thoroughly enjoyrd my experiences on the PLO tables and will be having a concerted effort on them over the next few weeks. Other good news is the my local casino has moved the start times of it MTT's from 8pm to 7pm. This makes the idea of playing some more Live MTT's more appealing as it doesn't eat into the following day as much. An idea I still think would help SkyPoker grow it's MTT participation if put into practice on here.
SKY Poker MTT's Played = 322 Total Profit = £1746.99 Total ROI = 37.68

So my experiment on the PLO cash tables was somewhat of a disaster and has cost me a couple of £100. So it is with a renewed vigour and commitment that I return to my natural home of the MTT and leave the cash tables to those who can win. This has resulted in my binking a £12 sat to the £15k Main event tonight. So tonight I will be playing this and the Mini whilst enjoying a couple of beers, listening to the boxing. When I say a couple of beers I actually mean a selection of bottles of Blonde from various micro breweries. On the footie front it was a good day for Villa, without even playing. Defeat for Wolves, Preston, Leeds and Norwich along with draws for Sheff. Wed, Cardiff and Fulham. A win tomorrow in the 2nd city derby will certainly consolidate our position in the play-offs. AFC Emley suffered another defeat away at Winterton Rangers and remain mid-table. Still struggling with 2 things on the New Forum, no colours available in the text and I seem unable to post a photo. Any help appreciated. Wish me luck in the Main and Mini, I'll probably need it.
Not played any poker since Tuesday, when I played just the 3 tournies. Decided I probably needed a small break and feel refreshed and raring to go again. Plan for tonight is to play UKOPS 49, 50 and 52. Really glad to see a Mini UKOPS is on the horizon and will definitely be partaking in a fair few events. October was another losing month following a loss in September. The aim for November must be to make a profit on the MTT tables! Went to the Villa game at Preston on Wednesday night and thought the first half was the best I have seen us play for a long time. Keinan Davis the young lad playing up front for us has huge potential and holds the ball up as well as anyone I have seen in a Villa shirt for a long time. Houriane and Whelan are really starting to find their feet and Hutton has started playing like the song suggests 'Alan Hutton the Scottish Cafu'. Terry and Chester have formed a solid partnership and with Johnstone showing why he is on the books of Man Utd everything is looking really rosy for the rest of the season. In typical Championship style, its 3:30pm on Saturday afternoon and our season is suddenly back in turmoil. We're 2-0 down at home to Sheff Wed, Terry is looking at 8 weeks on the sidelines and we end up reverting to playing Chris Samba up front. As is the Championship's way we don't actually lose any real ground and remain in 5th place as all the teams around us conspire to lose or draw. It does, however, look like automatic promotion maybe out of our grasp this season and if you were to offer me a place in the play-offs now I would snap your hand off. Christmas is now in full swing at work and by this time next week I will be sick and tired of Christmas songs, mince pies, selection boxes and all the other necessities we must have to make Christmas the event it should be. Roll on New Year's Eve when I will be seeing the New Year in with friends at the Royal Armouries Masquerade Ball before starting a well earned 3 day 'Christmas' break.
