Looking forward to reading this and getting another glimpse of how your mind works marky but I have got suzie dent on standby just in case you try to bluff with a few big words :-) gl with your job hunt
He's publishing in three different languages, English, Norwegian and Glaswegian. All at once.
I envisage just the one page, the biggest page you've ever seen, wrapped up like a scroll the size of one of those pipes just been washed up on the Norfolk coast haha.
Best of luck with it Mark, you clearly know your HiLo stuff.

I really don't think it's fair, or right, to keep dissing Marky's lack of brevity & inability to master the English language.
Love the idea of the book on PLO8. You won't make any money from it of course (& I doubt you want to) as the market is so small, but there is definitely a lack of good reading material on PLO8. There's a Poker "stand" every year in the Rio Corridor in Las Vegas, & each year I scan their shelves looking for reading material on O8. There IS some, but its very poor quality in my opinion. Posted by Tikay10
Yeah I have noticed anytime that I have went to study the game of O8 in more detail that it is a challenge to find any content of note, even just browsing online, nevermind in print.
Either that or my googling skills are sub par.
Regarding the profitability... It isn't something I have given any real thought to. It would just be nice to finish it off have have a worthwhile book at the end of it that is of some use. I want to try and make it something that is fun to read and not just a dry breakdown of pot odds and hand %'s (although I will include some of the 'dry' stuff too obviously). One idea is to add little quotation bubbles at the foot of each page with quirky interesting facts & tips about O8 and poker in general. I am feeling motivated for this and will put some real effort in to try to produce something of a reasonable quality. But yes, I certainly won't be expecting it to pay the bills
BTW... A book on your poker exploits and thoughts on all things poker would be an absolute joy to read!
PS - Anyone want to do an over/under on how many pages Marky's book will run to? I'll set the line at 1,225, which was how many pages there were in the first published edition of War & Peace. I'm on the OVERS. Posted by Tikay10
Definitely under
I will include a lot of stuff that players who are familiar with the utter basics of the game can just skip over. Such as the rules of the game etc so it will be a reasonable amount of pages. I will try to reign it in though so that if I print a batch off I do not need to sell all my worldly possessions to pay the printers or chop a forest down to print off a batch of 10 lol.

Haha, cheers Harry. I will try not to bluff too much unless I am really stuck

Cheers Mike much appreciated. My partner just asked what I was reading and I read out the bolded part, she was having to fight back the tears of laughter
Love the idea of the book Mark, Will it cover all forms of O8? MTT's, SnG's, DYM's, etc? GL in your real life stuff. Posted by VespaPX
Thanks Vespa, appreciated! A simple but very good question IMO.
MTTs - yes, I have never been a losing player on any sites I have played more than a handful of games on and I think my ROI is between 50% -150% on all these sites. So I feel I am able to comment in some depth in this area.
SNG's - yes, In regular SNGs I have managed to consistently produce high ROIs over very large sample sizes (tens of thousands of games). So again I feel comfortable commenting in this area.
DYM's - yes but to be honest this is not my strong point. I like to build stacks far too much, get stubborn and often lack the patience to grind out certain games that require a more sedate approach. It isn't an ego thing, if I drew an analogy with football... These games require you to grind out a lot of results the way many winning football/sports teams will have to do over a season. I however naturally want to go out and win every game 10-0 though which can cause problems.
I know the correct plays but I just get antsy. Just for the book I may play a reasonable sample of these (500-1000 games) and bring my best game to them and if results justify it then do a section on them. If not then I may cover some very basic pointers for people thinking of giving DYM's a try etc. Maybe if I set a challenge on how profitable I could be over a 1000 game sample of these it would help to focus the mind and control the patience element. Potential challenge if anyone wants to take it on?
Cash Games - Again not my strongest point. I did win a relatively sizeable amount when I first started out playing $1 PLO8 cash games but I quickly drifted to MTT's and SNG's (higher potential returns for lower investments and all that). I also used to do okay for a spell at $10 limit O8 and $5 PLO but cash games are a different beast from MTTs and regular SNGs and much in the same way different skill sets and approaches are needed for DYMs, the same can be said for cash games. In recent years I have only played cash games for fun when I have wanted to throw some chips around and have never properly tried to adapt to them. So possibly a very basic section but unless I do a sizeable sample and 'prove my worth' I wont attempt to offer any advanced advice on this.
I hope to be honest about my strengths and weaknesses in the book, not BS anyone and play to my strengths. I may flirt with the idea of getting players who have performed very strongly in areas I have not specialised in to contribute to areas of the book but to start with will just focus on my stronger areas and see where it leads.
Well I best go and fire another couple of job applications away, take care of my daily chores and then I can spend a few more hours this evening getting the book started.
Any tips on possible stuff to include etc are extremely welcome.
When I get some proper traction with it all I may post some snippets and if anyone is kind enough to take the time to offer feedback it will help me steer things in a decent direction.
Completely off topic and something I found interesting yesterday and forgot to mention...
Was reading an article which shared a link to one of, or perhaps the first page, ever created on the internet. Insane how much things have progressed and the 'W3' acronym for the 'WWW' really didn't take off.
Can see where 'The Matrix' film got some of their inspiration from for their page layouts.
The book sounds like an excellent idea to me. I sometimes think I have a moderate understanding of PLO8 and then I play a game and wonder what the **** is going on. I certainly find it hard to build up the big stacks early on that you and a few others seem to regularly do.
Can I put my name first on the waiting list for the signed leather bound limited edition?
GL with the book Marky and hope you find a job soon. Posted by safc71
Cheers mate!
Thanks for the positive comments all. One danger with projects like this is obviously that we get sidetracked with other things in life and do not see them through to fruition. The positive comments have helped to motivated me even more though and I spent a good few hours on the book again last night. Starting to get a bit of traction.
At 18 pages and counting. Although I doubt I will go over Tikay's guess on the number of pages. I am hoping to put a lot of effort into this and go for quality and a fun reading experience rather than quantity. I will however obviously be hampered as I try to communicate in a second language (English), but will do my best

Very good Vespa, very good indeed.
