Very good Vespa, very good indeed. Posted by Tikay10
Saw Steve Davis at an exhibition many years ago. I recall he said that Steady Eddie Charlton certainly wasn't boring. He said that Mr Charlton's autobiography was a riveting read. Admittedly the first 3 chapters were on how to win the toss....
Great idea Marky lad, a book about plo8, Yes please, I'll have a copy. (if i'ts reasonably priced :-) ) Obv's, if you need any help with the content, don't hesitate to ask me :-) It was a pleasure to meet you in Manchester at the SPT. The constraints of printing costs may keep me under control...
The eBook version however is an entirely different matter ;-)
Good luck with the book Mark put me down for a copy, was good to meet you in Manchester, shame I couldn't survive more than 2 hands! Not really played much O8 but might punt a few tourneys after reading your words of wisdom! Hope the job search is successful soon!
Will the book include differences with 6 max & full ring? Posted by VespaPX
Will definitely address that Vespa. Will try to cover all table sizes although probably not HU SNG's as it is many years since I took them seriously and played them on a regular basis.

Thank you Kindly mate!
Was nice to meet you in Manchester too. Hope all is well with you and maybe see you in Brighton? Would be great to see you on the O8 tables too
I remember watching Rab C Nesbitt for years and thinking he was calling his kids "The Waynes" until someone fluent in Scottish explained he was saying "The Wee 'Uns" as in "The Little Ones".
I thought the joke was, he couldn't remember the name of his kids and called them both Wayne.
I think I was amused by many unintended jokes when watching that show!

I am sure that show left a few people 'down south' who may have watched it scratching their heads lol
I posted this in one of the darker alleyways of the forum but am unsure how often people frequent those parts so will copy/paste my musings on Mayweather v McGregor here. Be interesting to hear peoples thoughts on the fight.
When it was announced on June 14th that Floyd Mayweather was to come out of retirement and fight Conor McGregor many boxing experts were utterly dismissive of UFC fighter McGregor's chances. Manny Pacquiao even went as far as to question whether McGregor would be able to land a meaningful punch on Floyd. I seem to remember odds being offered in the region of 25/1 on a McGregor win with some ex-boxers chuckling at the prospect of McGregor winning. All this seemed understandable as Floyd was 49-0 and McGregor had never boxed professionally.
The fight was, and still is by many, billed as pure pantomime aimed at generating massive paydays for both stars.
The odds on McGregor have gradually shortened though. After the announcement a few days ago by the Nevada State Athletic Commission to allow 8oz gloves to be used the odds on a McGregor win have shortened further still. McGregor, the fighter many completely dismissed, was down to odds of 7/2 with some bookmakers with Mayweather drifting to 2/7.
How many fighters have fought Mayweather and been on shorter odds? I remember 5/1 being offered on Amir Khan to beat Mayweather should they ever decide to step into the ring together. If I recall correctly Saul Alverez, an unbeaten hot prospect in boxing at the time, was on similar odds to those offered on McGregor for his match up with Mayweather. So what has changed? Are the odds correct and this is actually a meaningful competitive fight afterall or are McGregor fans backing their man in droves and skewing the odds? If the latter is the case then 2/7 on Mayweather could be incredible value.
I have never watched McGregor fight live but am mildly curious as to how this will all unfold in Las Vegas next Saturday. I am still not sure whether I feel this is a genuinely massive competitive fight or a bit of pantomime best reserved for the wrestling industry. I was in the pantomime camp before but am now thrown a little by the shortening of odds on McGregor.
The cynic in me does wonder one thing though. If McGregor were to land a 'lucky punch' and beat Mayweather...
Just how much money would a rematch generate for both men?
It is certainly true that Floyd 'Money' Mayweather is not desperate for cash, although he does seem to be rather obsessed with it. However this is already expected to be the richest fight in boxing history, even when some critics are slamming the fight as pantomime. If McGregor were to 'prove the critics wrong' so to speak then it is safe to say that both men would be lined up for a rematch payday that would put the current one firmly into the shadows.
Could the possibility of a mega payday which eclipses even this one influence the outcome or am I just letting my cynical side come to the fore?
On the poker front I have been putting incredibly small volume in as I have too many other things going on. Still managed to win the weekly PLO8 leaderboard though and between those games and cashing with my £33 ticket prize I am a few hundred up over the last week and a bit.
Everything is all change in real life at the moment. Helping my son clear all his stuff from the house as he moves out in the next week or 2 to start uni in Dundee. As my daughter moved out last year to start a 2 year HND in Paisley it will be strange to not have either of my 'kids' in the house anymore. Just the small matter of helping my son find a flat and doing a removal to negotiate now... That should be fun right?
A little victory on the job front. Nothing huge but nice to see some positive movement. Have been selected for interview regarding a job helping support people with learning disabilities to move onto roles in employment or education. The pay is decent and the workplace is around 5 minutes from my house so hopefully that goes well.
I have also spotted 2 job listings with the same company that are directly related to stuff I have done and am qualified for (managing community development) and that offer excellent salaries. Have spent 2 days on the applications so far and am really hoping one of these work out.
Some small reasons to be cheerful at least
Oh yeah and Celtic qualified for the champions league, yay!
Hope you are all running well in life and on the tables.
Edit: And then about 1 hour later I am invited to an interview for a similar job on the same day. Appointments are 2 hours apart but seperated by some 35 miles. Will be a challenge to make it to both... #firstworldproblems
