    Thanks Ger.

Thanks Jac. Bakewell was definitely on the to do list Dovedale wasnt on the radar - looks really nice so will give that a go. We are pretty near Carsington Water so that will be an easy trip to walk Molly that wont take up much of a day. Very doubtful on the pass out for poker though.

Settled for the easy 100pts last week so challenge roll is now £6.90 tokens and £8.35 cash. Feeling a little diary envy atm. I havent got the wit/style of SR23, the results of TimmyRara or the real ife mates and holiday brags of Jac35. So if anyone is still reading, congrats, or should I say perhaps you need to get out more? Next week I'll be mostly offline as Mrs P and I are  taking a week off in a cottage. It probably doesnt take Sherlock Holmes to work out I have a milestone birthday this year. Happens to be this week.  I think there is a pattern emerging. For Mrs Ps 40th we went to the Carribean, for my 40th we went to a cottage in Scotland. Mrs P wants a crusie for her 50th. We are going to Derbyshire for mine. Still love her to bits - and if I can please win some more at poker between now and then, hopefully I can make that happen.

It took me a while but I got there, I think. Do you think Mrs P would like a poker cruise? Perhaps not, but I was looking into one or two a month or so ago and they look pure ace.

Yeah don't worry I'm not assuming you are 93.

Poker cruise might be a stretch, need to be flush enough to afford to treat Mrs P to a nice holiday first and have that as a personal one.

I quite fancy Aruba as a holiday destination one day - I am sure I can sell that one to Mrs P

Been a bit all over the place recently, but I had a read though this last night to catch up, & I must say, a most enjoyable Diary.

I would recommend avoiding a poker cruise at all costs, unless perchance you would enjoy 24/7 "so the flop came...", "& guess what he called me with?" sort of stuff.

^^^^ Cheers Mr K for the confidence boost.

I take your point on a poker cruise - no escape.

Aruba remains the dream for me as a destination Mrs P would come too (or Punta Cana - maybe next year)

Played some poker tonight - 100% record after 2 dyms. Only 30ps, which were strategically played after 9pm to get me over 100 pts.

    Booked the win.

Unlikely to play much for a week due to reasons above.

Will keep an eye on the forum and especially the HUFA thread.

May list some Derbyshire Dale exploits, it could go 2 ways a DOHHHesque healthy stint of outdoor excercise or a DOHHHesque over indulgence in the food/drink department. Hopefully a bit of both, it is a holiday after all.

    Quick update...

    Made the token last week.

Been in the Derbyshire Dales since Saturday.

Nice spot of countryside, with some lovely little market towns. Nice to see places where independent shops are seemingly doing well althought frustrating to see Subways and Costas are setting up here as well.

Had to drive through Compton at night, to get back from Ashbourne town centre. I was a bid worried but it wasn't as bad as the songs I heard about it.

Will be trying Nigels sausages tomorrow.

Weather a bit nippy but dry, much easier to dress to keep warm in the cold than it is to keep dry in rain so I'll take that.

I like Belper, Ashbourne and Wirksworth. Matlock was a bit meh. Chatsworth House Christmas Market was worth a wander but didnt buy much.

Nice walks had at Carsington reservoir and Ilam/Dovedale.

Mrs P wants to do some proper shopping tomorrow - can't wait - off to Nottingham #sigh.

Bakewell on Friday then it's gg Derbyshire on Saturday.

It's a good job that there's a lot of Nigel to go round then, his sausage tastes very nice and I am sure plenty of Ashbourne folk get their fill there.

Sneaking an odd dym in here and there so the 100 points should be met again this week.

Wasn't that impressed by Nottingham tbh. Seems some 70s town planners had too much money to spend at one time and spolied what could be a really nice city centre. Interesting contrast between the two intu owned shopping centres at the top end and bottom end.

£11.50 tokens and £8.35 cash saved up for the next punt.

In a post in the poker clinic I just worked out that if you are going for the token the quickest and cheapest way is to play 50 30p DYMs in double points promos.

I might just do that for the fun of it as busy this week (albeit I am procrastinating on the forum) and save next week for some voluuume in the Wed-Fri slot.

Probably wont thinking about it as I can get 100 points in much less time with £2.25£3.30s. I'll probably play a few PLO8s and a few turbo dyms.

2 more tokens since the last update so on £16.10 plus the £8.35 which means all is looking good for a PLO8 UKOPs entry.

That is my plan, depends on family ability for a get together, just hoping they don't pick the 30th but if they do I'll have to pass on the poker. It's a tradition that I will have to honour as one very important person will not be there. It means Christmas will not be the same as it will not be for many households - thinking of all who have lost someone this year.

I went for the "fun", 92% rakeback attempt on 30p turbo dyms during double points days. Wasn't going so well, those 30p jobbies not as soft as you might think. Some decent play going on mixed in with the highly erratic that is hard to counter when you don't get to play the same player again.

I ended up giving up and going back to £3.30s and have been on a +ve variance run which is bound to come to an end now I have posted about it.

PNE actually got 7/9 points since the debacle at Hillsborough and next up will dirrrty Leeds on Boxing Day. I'll be going with my 2 sons.

Ok so I bragged in a downswing on the dyms - I blame the double points promo ;-)

On the plus though I have run well to get up a few BIs at 10nl and 20nl OH cash. You can still cash at dyms without running well but pretty hard to do the same at OH cash. It could have been even more but for a 4 way pot where I got it all in with a flopped nut straight and extensions to nut fush and broadway straight. Runner runner alternative flush :( I suspect I also needed to dodge a piared board as well though.

I have just completed a sky poker marketing survery, the last time I did one of those it was asking all about sky poker tv and shortly after that it was scrapped.

This one was all about tournaments, the last question was asking about whether I would be interested in going to live sky poker events. I responded positively of course. Fingers crossed this means there will be some good news in the new year.

I have made a few plo8 tables this week and one nl table.

Not sure if I'll get enough points for a token though.

I have started a fresh spreadsheet for 2017. I dont need that complexity to work out my percentages though.

    nl 0/1
    plo8 7/7

Nice to be unbeaten at plo8 in 2017, made a couple of mistakes, generally though think I have played ok and run incrredibly well.

Just how well indicated by achieving a life time ambition and getting it in pre ahead v eon and holding for godd measure.

Was also down to under 2.5bb on one game on the bubble. Utg limped I shoved and got a walk from the bb who had a monster stack and the open limper which was handy. Then got lucky v Tikay with a high only hand and managed to cash.

Real life likely to get in the way of any substantial volume for a bit - so happy to tick along and enjoy a bit of poker as and when I can.

Oh well streak is over. Busted with AAT5 with a suit to a call from mr wide range big stack. One of those flops with middly cards and str8 and flush (not mine) possibilities so jammed and insta called by a set of 7s gn gg.

8/10 still a good start to the year though.

made 50 pts, hopefully I'll get 100 and my first token of the year next week.

    Still low volume.

Had one of those "sticky" players to my left who doesnt seem to know where the fold/raise buttons are the other night.

To be fair it's a hard tactic to counter especially in PLO8. The Pot limit restricts the ability to bet big enough to push a player off a put when you want to and the O8 effect can make it tricky with draws being kept in play with pot odds. Couple that with being out of position having someone call all of your raises and c-bets makes it hard to win a pot with aggression.

(for any regular plo8 players reading - I always have a hand)

So of course you have to adapt, in my case I tightened my starting ranges and just went for it when I did enter a pot, which made for increasingly hairy moments as the blinds went up. At one point I shoved on the turn with no made hand and all the draws going nut flush, nut straight and nut low and managed to split the pot. Eventually at about the 5th time of asking I managed to get a fold with a cbet and villain had to shove soon after and bust.

Still low volume with real life getting in the way.

Last night I played live for the first time in ages in a home game with some old friends and a new face (the new face being literally new to NLHE). They were to the left which can make the game tricky as reads are a bit difficult to say the least.

Newbie stacks someone calling an all-in when they had the nuts, and then loses it to another player calling a similar board with 3rd pair no kicker.

Blew the first game coming over the top of a turn bet with K6 on a K578 board. Opponent had 88.

I had been card dead all night and finally woke up with KK on the BB in the 2nd game. UTG x3 and 2 callers, I jam and all call. 88 AT A7s. I hold and manage to win from there.

We only chuck a tenner in per game as it is a social thing and have a flat 30/20/10 payout so I am now the princely sum of £10 up for live poker for the year. OK so minus beer and crisps make that about £3.68 up.

Interesting discussion about match betting (apprarently skybet are good at detecting and blocking people who do this).

Then another player pipes up with how he likes to play online, with his mate and msn messenger on. I think you know where this is heading. I pointed out that it is collusion and the seriousness of it and risks of bans/funds being frozen etc.

I didnt ask about sites or aliases as I thought I was better off not knowing.

I assume this is very easy to detect when done on a large scale, just wonder if the algorithms are set up to also trap the casual colluder. (Not that I expect Sky to answer that here).
