ARCHIE is triple draw High/Low Split. It was named after the fella who came up with the game, who lived across the State line in Phoenix, or so the story goes.
It's a maximum of 6 players, otherwise the Dealer could run out of cards.
The MINIMUM High Hand is 9-9, & if nobody has 9-9 or better, the pot ALL goes to the best Low hand.
Ok sorry if I am being dumb but what is a straddle?
A straddle is a way of juicing the pot pre flop, & is effectively a "blind bet" which buys the right to be last to act pre-flop. So in those Big O games with a mandatory straddle, the Blinds act FIRST pre-flop instead of last.
It's ONLY used in cash games, never Tourneys.
Many venues ban straddling, as it can get out of hand.
Lots of different types of straddle - Live, Missippippi, Sleeper etc.
One version which I dislike intensely is when, pre-flop, UTG straddles to £10 (in a £5 cash game), then next to act goes £20, then £40, & so on. It can be £150 or more by the time it gets back to the BB. It's roulette really & is very poor strategy imo. They play it a lot up in Blackpool.
I definitely wasn't being grumpy, just trying to focus on the game. They weren't too chatty at that table but I was enjoying it and 6-Max tends to mean there is always something to think about.
