I know it does happen, but I've never seen Quads over Quads.

Did see A-Ks v A-Aces today ...... and A-Ks hit Royal Flush, but gonna take too long to find it :)

    ...... come on Page 4 :/

    Known as 'LIMPERS TAX' ........

Why didn't you SHOVE the Turn @bongo69 with the NUT FLUSH? .....especially if it's a Bounty Hunter. If he calls, then GOOD LUCK to him,

Not that I'm anything like an expert, and hopefully there will be some others far better qualified, to help you with this hand

If I jam the turn I get a fold. Admittedly I win a smaller pot. But, with the nut flush, foolish though it continually proves to be here, I wanted that kind of action on the river. You've got to put them on an ace. So the 10 looks like a blank. So I lead out. Not expecting, as you wouldnt, him/her to be holding 1010 and to have hit a four out river.

Bongo, I mean this in the nicest way, but you do realise that no-one cares?

'Woe is me' hands are very tedious and suggest a sizeable gap in your mental game.

The odd one you can overlook but you seem to post them very regularly and perhaps your time is better spent on other aspects of poker than posting perceived bad beats frequently, which achieves absolutely zilch.

    All the best.

Thanks for your note hhyftrftdr. Some thoughts in response...

Firstly, spare me the "nicest way" shite. The rest of your post betrays the emptiness of that gesture.

Secondly, in case it's not otherwise apparent, for clarity, I don't post hoping that you or anyone else will care. Genuinely. I don't know anyone here, have no 'friends' here and am not looking for condolence, empathy etc. And I'm not expecting it to 'achieve' anything either.

These posts are me blowing off steam about what are, despite your note about them frequently being 'perceived' bad beats, instead, by my reckoning often actually are (I reserve the right to consider a hand where I get it in pre with over 70% equity and am 93% favourite before the river but my opponent spikes a three outer, a bad beat)

Thirdly, please don't feel obliged to read anything I post. I'm sure you don't. But you can all too easily spare yourself the tedium my posts on this thread apparently induce by simply scrolling past them. Thus saving yourself a bunch of time. And seemingly, annoyance.

Lastly, on the subject of time, while I appreciate your concern about how mine is invested, I'm sufficiently long in the tooth to be able to decide how I while away my hours and whether or not I find joy or value in such activities (whether that's bemoaning hands I've lost, pouring over hand histories, or simply sitting around with my hands down my pants)

All of that noted, all the best to you too.

  • hhyftrftdrhhyftrftdr Member Posts: 8,036
Keep posting your tiresome hands then.

The fact you need to post them to ''blow off steam'' suggests a huge gap in your mental game, but crack on.

Continually posting perceived bad beats puts you in the same category as the likes of MisterPJ.....you're in good company there.

You're more concise than him, I'll give you that; at least you keep your whinge to a sentence before the HH.

    don't worry Bongo69
if the Guvnor, will allow, let's see,if? and then the Forums 'take' later today, when I will post, if allowed?, 3 back 2 back Β£5.50 bounty hunters, featuring, I kid you not, void hands, and the Reincarnation of Potripper.
It's Spectacular, and not kidding, would (will) be an eye opener.
Gaurentee. If allowed, will post on Poker Chat, for all to 'debate' pj
I doubt? be 'allowed' as its poker eye-watering πŸ’‹
the 'dr' a renowned Grandiose -ard-blow-er-
1.I care, rather a lot, so that's point 1 spectacularly wrong πŸ‘ 'no-one cares'
    oh yes they do, Zippy.
2.'woe is me' & 'tedious'& 'gap in your mental game' πŸ‘ what an utter Crock.
zero tedious is game play hand study, in fact, its one of the most Important things a poker player should be doing, metal gap? what cak!
makes a sharp (sharper) mental focus, ps its got Jack Zip to do with Woe,!
for example, tournament players should be (always) playing for the win,or top 3 cash, near the bubble, anything playable aggro raising v the blinds always
Thing is, when your a mentally acute Samson player, things get noted.
Like, big stack small stack bounty hunters, top pair small pair pre, all in all in, prevelence of smaller pair flopped sets, or, pocket AA with nut flush draw on flop, running into the made boat
Would be Supreme televised Poker πŸ˜‰
but, being the self anointed Oracle
that would be tedious & woeful for the absorbed watching poker fans, right 😲
can't get pocket 88 beat No matter pocket JJ v 88 pre or pocket AA (made nut flush) v 88 turns boat!,or getting it all in 95% equity and the Ole turn river runner runner scenario.
what's that, groundhog day? must be that poker mental chasm, as turn river runner runner time again, into flopped top two JJ 99 flushed turn river runners!
    no one cares!
Well Zippy ( & how could I possibly know?) maybe, your not a minding 'pants a be a taking down' live & let live, I say
however, 'we' are very much allowed to 'care'
your on the right hazy lines, but you can't be specific! (obviouslyπŸ˜‰)
'Frankly100/1' 'running & defying those very mathematical odds 😘'

6max do you know the maths? 2 players both dealt pairs, both players flop sets
Well, below is 5th time mtts only since September 1st, not played 7000 hands, never mind 70,000!

no mental chasms or woe is I, ere, quite the opposite, but your loverly πŸ’‹

  • EssexphilEssexphil Member Posts: 7,978
    Your maths is faulty.

It is true to say that the odds of 2 people flopping a set is roughly 1/12600. But that is only true when no-one has any cards.

You have a pocket pair immediately makes it more likely that someone else has a pair. In addition, you having a pair rules out all the non-pair hands.

If you flop a set, the real odds that someone else has also flopped a set is greater than 1/100. Still rare-but nothing like as rare as you mention.

Actually, it's posted in the brags beats and variance section which is the proper place, unlike your wind up contributions which alas can be found scattered across most threads.

I mean this in the nicest way but if you don't want to read about beats don't come here. Your continual trolling suggests a sizeable gap in your mental reasoning.

Like what exactly do you expect to find on this particular thread.

I'm honoured you took time out from smashing it at the gym to reply to me.

Bongo was getting dangerously close to Misterpj levels, someone needed to reel him in a bit.

No-one wants to get to those levels.

@hhyftrftdr as The Edge notes, the title of this thread is 'WTF'. It's raison d'etre, it's very existence, is for people to express surprise, dismay, frustration and other such mental game deficiency responses at the way some of these hands play out. So, I shall continue to post here (and your permission to do so is greatly appreciated)

It's perhaps worth noting that the fact that you're here, a presence which, in the context of this thread's subject matter, might be described as rubbernecking, arguably says something about your mental set up too. Not necessarily as a player (I've got no idea about your chops as a player). But perhaps as a person.

Given that by your own admission, you find it tiresome, to quote Morrissey, "why do you come here? Why do you hang around?"

It's true the gaps in my game are many...being passive when I should be aggressive and vice versa, bet sizing, sub-optimal reads, allowing myself too tilt more often than I'd like, the ranges I put people on, to name but a few. If I was so inclined, I could spend more time working on my game. And who knows, perhaps I one day will.

Not sure even then those single digit equity rivers wont sting though...

    Knock yourself out.

It's utterly pointless to continually post bad beats week upon week upon week, often with the thin veil of suggestion that the site isn't kosher, but if you get something from it then fill your boots.

Genuine question.....what do you think of MisterPj's posts?
