Really enjoy these daily updates, especially the occasional diversions into horse racing.
Don't be discouraged by lack of replies, plenty of folks are reading them.
Thank you, @Tikay10. I enjoy keeping the diary and it does help exorcise demons. That said, have you noticed that my dip in form coincided with the return of the diary?
Are you looking forward to Champions Day this Saturday?
I've been working on the Balmoral Handicap for some time, with these my current thoughts;
Convinced there is a big race in Shelir, who travelled really well last Saturday when 3rd at York. He would need to have come out of that race well, however, and wouldn't relish testing conditions.
Bear Force One ran much better than his finishing position suggests in the Chambridgshire, where he failed to see out the straight 9f.
It's not easy for a 3yo to land an even such as this off a mark of 103, but I took a small chance on Ropey Guest at 50/1 yesterday. There probably isn't much improvement to come, as he's been highly tried since day-one, but he's generally consistent and acts well on soft. Despite his lofty perch, his form at the previous Royal meetings suggest he can still be competitive. He's surely not a 50/1 chance.
Analysis far from complete, however.
With racing work ongoing, poker will remain low-key this evening.
Sadly, it's more of the same regarding the DYM's. After success in the first, I button-raised with QT in my second game and, after a flop of Q52, I shoved my remaining 700 chips into a pot of 400. Imagine my disgust to find my opponent at ungentlemanly slow-played Queens.
I'm pretty sure such cunning is against the rules and I will be taking this matter further.
Just as I started to get excited, I exit in mind-boggling fashion with five left in my third game.
Despite sitting pretty with 22-bigs (deep in this context) my opponent snap-called my shove. Just as I suspected when witnessing the swiftness of the call, this meant A6.
Ultimately, it was a great call...

The Mini has been uneventful so far. I'm 82/106, having nursed a 4,000 stack for around an hour.
I'll have a small crack at the Reload, before calling it a night.
As I said, the Mini was relatively uneventful. I nursed a small stack in hope of a double-up.
After losing a pot worth ten-bigs (when failing to dodge 7 outs on the river), I immediately pick up Ace-King and shove for around 14 big blinds. I am called my Jacks and lose the race.
Enjoyment levels plummeting.
October is now twelve days old and, despite consistently sticking my money in correctly, it's been a month of few final tables and one looking extremely likely to be my worst in this Lockdown-born spell.
That said, due to morale, I doubt I am playing to the best best of my ability.
Looking forward to some better results tonight, think you are due.
Champions Day at Ascot? Yes, I'm quite looking forward to it. The ground is likely to be dire though, it's touch & go if it would even be raceable if it were due to take place today. There's been a ton of rain in the area, & it's rained most of the night again.
Been doing some work on the Derby, here is the form shown on 2yo debut for the last 20-odd Derby winners. Only 4 of the last ten were placed on 2yo debut...

Just something to think about when looking for the ante-post value over the winter.
Mixing things up this evening; starting with the £5.50 PLO8 BH.
Apologies to @coo1-um and the Gang for not participating in the PLO8 League recently. There is a chance this will produce a Fresh mindset. Hopefully I will Celebrate with a result to Cherish.
Crazy hand in the Mini. Set over set means I win only 500 chips, still, at least I didn't lose this three-way all-in pot worth 88 big blinds to Jack-high.
Comments
I fell at the first hurdle at £3.30 level, due to a set-over-set flop.
I boast form-figures of WWLW at £2.20 stakes, so, that's a run of one, currently.
I am playing extremely poorly, and putting in little effort. Which is indefensible.

We start with the Mini.
Damnations! Sometimes I wish I'd never read that blasted Super System.
Mindless and petty, like a dog with a bone, I go again. £2.20's are my current second-table choice.

First streak attempt: 1
With 5 left I call the SB's 8-big shove with A9. I'm up against K5o.
A five on the river leaves me with one big blind, half of which is in the pot by default in the SB.
Luckily I pick up AJ. Even more luckily, my sole opponent has JT.
That's as lucky as I got, however, as the Ten hits and I leave with nothing but another story to tell.
Just as I started to get excited, I exit in mind-boggling fashion with five left in my third game.

Having bought in over half hour ago, I've won just ONE hand, where I made a profit of 80 chips.
I get a soft call from KJ.
Looking forward to some better results tonight, think you are due.

Set over set for the high and my vulnerable low is rivered...
Already shipped 35% of my stack in the Mini.
This was a particularly tough spot...
Help, please.
The player with Ace-Two here is the same player I passed my set to. Hmmm.
