Do we abolish the monarchy given it's colonial past?

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Royal_African_Company

The monarchy model is very antiquated for me however there is big British history there and know a Nordic couple who think the British Royals are ok.

The words were "all we have here are fat, greedy politicians." Which are worse?

    Cammy
Most Nordic countries - for sure Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Greenland, Faroes, & until relatively recently Iceland - have a Monarchy.

    Was a Finnish couple :)

You don't do funny very well either.

If you "Don't do serious", then you need to avoid spamming serious discussions with absolute drivel. There's a time and a place for funny; a discussion related to racism isn't it.

Fawlty Towers now, that's it I'm off to live in Jura and start a rabbit sanctuary ( well whenever I'm allowed to drive more than 5 miles ), where's this going to stop.

I’ll point out I made a comment about Dianne Abbot, as I didn’t think she would be able to cut the mustard as Home Secretary. I personally think she isn’t a sharp enough tool for that post.
    Then I get a comment “ because she’s black”?

Then there’s numerous derogatory remarks about Priti Patel that are regarded as acceptable on here.
Or is there an order of what folks find most insulting, and have preference for? What’s top of the charts?
    Stay Alert. Double standards.

My only concern with racism is the propagated stance that it can only apply to a minority. Sometimes the efforts of those minority groups to make a difference can give a different impression.

    (Allow me to expand.)

There is an Association of Black Police Officers. Now this by its very nature is racist. All police officers should belong to the National Association of Police Officers surely.

(Bear with me, its not a rant about black coppers.)

Who set this other association up ? Black/ Minority officers. Why ? Well presumably they felt that they were not represented by the national association.

(Probably a fair point if you remember that the Met were found to be institutionally racist.)

But, here is the rub If the Association of White police Officers was formed there would be and correctly so an absolute meltdown at its overtly racist name.

    (Ok here's the hypocrisy bit)

Oh and yes for the record white officers cannot apply to join the AoBPO, presumably because they are not black, which I think means they are excluded on the grounds of colour which is in fact racist.

(I'm assuming it's been declared legal though)

So do you highlight your cause of fighting racism by setting up something that in itself is a mirror image of the very thing that you are trying to bring down.

There are thousands of such examples worldwide and whilst I applaud their motives I cant help but think that certain sections of society (right wing, nationalist etc) will view these as inflammatory and hypocritical.

Do B.L.M. Absolutely, and in 2020 you'd think that all this cr4p was a thing of the past.

ALL LIVES MATTER whether you are black, white, brown , yellow, red, gay , straight, bi, trans, Christian, Muslim, Hindu, Seikh, Bhuddist, Atheist, Agnostic.

As a Christian I find it repugnant that many of the attitudes expressed in North America toward people of ethnicity eminate from people purporting to be Christian. On your fkn bike white supremacist a holes. Not in my name and not in Gods or Jesus name either.

Black lives matter, all lives matter.

Racism R.I.P 2020 we can but hope and pray.

The Monarchy actually provide a very good example in relation to all this.

Some people on the Right seem to blindly love the institution, and bring it up at every opportunity.

Some people on the Left will always want to abolish it, similarly regardless of what they do.

The reality is very different. The Monarchy, like many institutions, has to constantly evolve in order to meet the expectations of a changing world. Because that is what the vast majority expect of them.

If they did not, the Monarchy would either end or be sidelined. Whereas the main players in my lifetime (the Queen, Charles and William) are adept at evolving in order to survive.

Much like those Companies that survived who used to do terrible things, in our 21st Century eyes.

    We are all human.

It appears to be a massive news topic in the US at the moment while others outside the US pledge allegiance to BLM. A tool to maybe seek approval from others and have a safe opinion that very few will be able to disagree with.

It's one of those things. BLM is something that upwards of 90% of people could get behind and be part of a majority.

Because at no point were they 'not represented' (as per your assumption). That's the difference.

Same argument applies to the vast majority of arguments of the form "Why is there not a white/men's/straight group for [insert thing here]", since we're typically already represented by the larger group with no ethnicity/gender/sexuality designation.

    Genuine question:
I haven't researched it but do you think the Queen should formally apologise for the slave trade the monarchy in the past were involved in?
