Last night's Question Time was worth a watch.

Nadhim Zahawi was embarrassing. Both insisting on the right to speak for as long as he wanted without interruption, and constantly interrupting everyone else. Fiona Bruce tried (and failed) to let the other panellists between them speak as much as him. She really needs to go. Talented Presenter. In the wrong job.

But he was better than the Black Farmer wannabe Tory MP. He was excruciatingly bad.

The surprises were Lisa Nandy and Piers Morgan. How bad does a Tory position have to be before Lisa Nandy sounds sane? When you start believing that Lisa Nandy is the voice of reason then the Tories need to give up or change course.

And Piers was at his best. When he just sticks to being a Journalist, and asks the right questions without it all being about Piers, he is a fearsome opponent. I loved the way he dissected Zahawi's position while simultaneously praising both his loyalty and willingness to speak on behalf of the Govt where others were too afraid.

Can't be too often that Nandy and Piers agree on most things. Shows just how desperate the Government's position is. That and the contempt of an audience for this Government. On its handling of the Economy. Always the bedrock for Tory support.

Several delegates fall asleep during Therese Coffey’s speech at Tory conference

If Therese Coffey is the answer.
It must have been a really stupid question :)

There are people in the Cabinet who I despise, such as Braverman.

But Coffey? Just pity, coupled with disbelief. Just hapless. Is she there to make Truss look good?

    Loyalty. To who?

    Just to their Leader?
    To their Party?
    To their Constituents?
    To their own futures?

Why is it that divisive megalomaniacs always demand loyalty from others?

As things stand, there is a distinct danger that the current course could lead to the Tories turning into the Lib Dems of the 1920s.

"The good of the country" would see this shower voted out decisively.

If a new PM came in and planned to f..k everything up, as badly as possible, from the word go, I am not sure that anyone could have done any better than Liz Truss has.

That sounds like the soundbite to win the next election :)

I think he has all the qualities that Boris lacked.
I dont think he would do himself any harm if we saw a bit more of him.

Liz Truss: Foreign Office Norwich City purchases for 'project'.

The £1,841 spent at Norwich City FC when Liz Truss was foreign secretary was for an "overseas shared values children's project", a minister said.

Labour's shadow attorney general Emily Thornberry queried the use of Foreign Office expense cards in a letter to the department last month,

In Parliament, Foreign Office minister Gillian Keegan said the payments were subject to "normal controls".

The Foreign Office would not comment further on what the project was.

The payments to the football club's online shop were made on two dates - £1,318 on 21 October and £523.50 on 21 March, the Local Democracy Reporting Service said.

Approached for comment on what "overseas shared values children's project" was being referred to by Ms Keegan - and why it was necessary to purchase almost £2,000 worth of Norwich City FC merchandise for it - a Foreign Office spokesman said they had nothing further to add.

"We would point you back to the minister's response to the parliamentary question," he said.

At the time of the purchases, South West Norfolk MP Liz Truss was leading the department as foreign secretary.

She has previously tweeted about Norwich City, including in 2018, when she was chief secretary to the Treasury.

In her letter, addressed to Ms Keegan, Ms Thornberry wrote that it was difficult to understand why the department had spent money on items such as "high-end private catering; wellness and beauty treatments; extensive supplies from UK wineries; large amounts of home furnishing; and even £1,841 at the Norwich City club shop".

Ms Thornberry followed up her letter with a formal parliamentary question asking the department whether the "normal assurance checks on the use of government procurement cards" had been followed.

On Tuesday in Parliament, Ms Keegan said: "Yes, we are content that the referenced payment was subject to normal FCDO [Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office] controls and in line with government procurement card policy.

"These were payments for an overseas shared values children's project."

A Foreign Office spokesman declined to say what the "overseas shared values children's project" was, or the Norwich City merchandise was used for.

In a response on Twitter, Ms Thornberry questioned what the project was "and why was the appropriate way to fund it through purchases at the Norwich City club shop?".

The football club said it would not be commenting on the purchases.
