Sol Campbell winds up Tottenham fans again in hilarious new advert - as he evokes his infamous Arsenal transfer by insisting 'big moves pay off'
Sol Campbell has poked fun at his infamous switch from rivals Tottenham and Arsenal during a recent TV advert.
Campbell made the switch between the North London clubs in 2001 under the Bosman ruling after his Tottenham contract expired in what was one of the most shocking switches in football.
The central defender had publicly claimed he would stay at Tottenham, before making the move across north London, leading to him being branded a 'Judas' by fans of his former club.
Spurs fans have never truly forgotten the manner in which Campbell left Spurs and now, the defender has done his best to remind them about his unceremonious exit.
In an advert for Google's Pixel phones, Campbell said: 'It's that time of year again. A time when people start to wonder if the grass might be greener.
'Whether they should switch sides and changes allegiances. Take it from me, big moves pay off.
I can think of 1 very similar situation. Involving a thoroughly decent human being.
Pat Jennings. 13 years at Spurs. Wanted to go to Arsenal. Honest and up front about it. There for 8 years. Then came back home. Never once booed at the Lane during those 8 years. Because the man was a truly great man. His Testimonial was Spurs v Arsenal-where every single fan stood and applauded-Spurs and Arsenal.
Still goes to Spurs. And I have no doubt would still be applauded by every Arsenal fan, too. He didn't pretend he wanted to go to Man Utd on a Free, and then stab fans in the back, having lied to Spurs fans for months.
That level of disloyalty is the reason an intelligent and supremely talented footballer has never got anywhere near the sort of Manager jobs he should have. Because Clubs know fine well how loyal he would not be.
Something I have had the enormous pleasure of telling him to his face.
1. People are always banging on about the "game has gone". Here's 1 example. Myles Lewis-Kelly. Not knocking him personally-clearly an 18-yr-old with prodigious talent. Last weekend. An 18-yr-old commits a deliberate, cynical foul to stop a breakaway. Which involved an element of danger to the other player. It's not the fact that that red card may have been unduly harsh. It's that an 18-yr-old committing that foul shows no remorse whatsoever. And nor does his Manager. Is it just me, or does no-one else despair when kids carry out this sort of cynical foul with zero remorse and zero guidance?
2. The current Ange v Levy thing. Said it before. Will say it again. I despise the sort of football fan who believes that he has some sort of divine right to criticise an Owner for the way he spends £500 million of his own money. And believe that there is a queue of people who want to spend £500 million in the supposed "right" way. And Ange. I like Ange. I like him far more than Maureen and Antonia. I like his Plan A. Last year, when all our Defenders got injured, there was some sort of glorious failure watching a man stick to Plan A. He couldn't have predicted all those injuries. He had no personnel for a Plan B. But. And it's a big but. The exact same defenders have the exact same injuries as last year. And there is still no Plan B. Which-sadly-means time to go.
"I despise the sort of football fan who believes that he has some sort of divine right to criticise an Owner
I have to admit, I hear that sort of stuff trotted out on Football Phone-Ins on the wireless regularly. And my head wants to explode.

Do these armchair critics - none of whom have had a single minute of experience in owning or running a football club - not realise what "owner" means?
It means they OWN the Club. And can do wtf they want.
Trust me, I will spend my money the way I want. And so will those armchair critics, they'd be apoplectic if someone told them how to do their job or spend their money.
All this romantic claptrap - the Club belongs to the fans - is utter bollox. The Clubs belong to the Owners, who took the risk of buying the Clubs.
