As at 2019 there were 54 million adults in this country, 23 million of those do not pay any income tax at all, none, zero, zilch, and at a guess not a huge proportion are professional poker players/gamblers. So the 31 million are supporting the 54 million and all the children. It's not hard to see how it doesn't work out is it? Some of those non taxpayers are retired however you only have to have an additional income of £2,000 per annum above the State Pension and you'd be a taxpayer again, so it's certainly not all down to those 'poor' pensioners.
It's no wonder the system is broken, NHS, roads, law and order, immigration, Government, benefits system, all broken. Good luck Labour but I have absolutely no confidence that you'll do any better than the current bunch of idiots.
Let's hope the 1 million a year coming in turn out to be tax payers.
The key thing there for me is that most of them are effectively tax we pay on income which has already been taxed.
i.e., we pay income tax & that reduces our income & then we pay VAT, Fuel Duty, Council Tax etc out of that taxed income.
I mean, I'm 100% fine with the logic of taxation, & don't mind paying it (albeit with the occasional wince & chunter) but the whole system is a bit of a mish mash. I think I'd prefer them to stick it all in one pile & just tax us once.
But it is also the case that there is a pinch point where collecting income tax is no longer viable.
You could tax the poor. But, at some stage, the amount you spend in paying additional benefits plus the cost of collection/assessment outweighs the revenue.
Meanwhile, income via taxation goes up sharply. A 10% increase last year. Nearly double the receipts since 2010, when the Conservatives commenced power.
13 years of austerity and cuts. Yet our debt has risen from 70% of GDP in 2010, to 100% today. We are spending approximately £110 Billion a year - 10% of our income- just paying interest on existing debt. Together with spending way more than we receive.
The current fiscal plans? I can't see any. Unless you count giving large sums to Rwanda, unlimiting bankers' bonuses, and looking to exempt paying tax on over £1 million inheritances.
how much would all this cost how many immigrants could it remove practically and would it even make savings. Isnt immigration in the hundreds of thousands if we are to believe this a solution a flight takes a few hundred people so we are talking thousands of flights with people who do not want to go forced so security as well thats got to be pretty expensive.
And this is assuming I have no empathy or concern about any individuals and just want rid of them without any nuance to their specific situation. If I actually think like that which I dont then its a purely economic decision and this just does not seem like it would be economical.
In a decent society, it's necessary to have rules & laws, & here we have a prominent member of our current ruling party suggesting "if we don't agree with the laws, then we'll break them".
Very, very depressing.
James Cleverly does not deny privately ridiculing Rwanda policy
Home Secretary James Cleverly has declined to explicitly deny privately describing the Rwanda policy as "batshit".
When questioned on BBC Breakfast, Mr Cleverly said he did not remember using the term.
The home secretary again defended plans to fly asylum seekers to Rwanda, claiming the scheme was "already having a deterrent effect" on small boat crossings.

Income tax is only about 30% of tax income. As an example, VAT is more than half the size of Income Tax. Which pretty much everyone pays.
The increase in tax revenue is astounding. But still not as high as the increase in Government spending.

Wonder what that % would be?

Sigh.
Nobody even tries to understand that these people have been dealt such a poor hand by the Ovarian Lottery.
If only there was such a thing as reincarnation, & when we come back, we got the opposite end of variance.
