In Response to Re: taking on NL4 diary : Hi Don, slightly off topic but out of interest how long do these tournies last? I would like to play some but I'm sure I saw in the lobby of one that it went on for about 12 hours and that was only a $1 or $2 buy in! Posted by Payney1978
They do take 6-12 hours varying from tourny to tourny. What i would advise is to make any money u have to finnish in top 10 really. And tbh they are seriously high variance. I have a really good deal on my stake taking 80% of profits, and 90% on bigger buy in events.
Because of the variance i wouldnt recommend them to anyone without decent tourny experiance.
Missed out playing last night due to a unexpected deep run in mtt on another site. Will be playing a 2 hour session today will struggle to get much more in due to going to see the Inbetweeners movie after tea.
2 hour session started at 3.15 so will update at 5.15.
KQ hand ive commented in clinic QJ flopped 2 pair, cooler prob shove flop rather then call is better QQ not really played bad imo lost min wp only commenting quickly on losing hands Posted by YOUNG_GUN
ty. P.s. the tilt is purley self tilt and im annoyed at how i played one hand. Ive posted it in the clinic.
Dont thnk i can play well when im seriously annoyed at myself.
You mention deep run in MTT preventing you playing, imo you should forget all about these silly MTT's for at least a month and go hardcore on the NL4. This may seem a little harsh but you're NEVER gonna improve playing flippently now and again mixed with MTT play which takes your mind off the main goal which must surely be beating NL4.

Agreed.
Especially because (as they've said many a time on channel 865) MTTs and and cash games require very different skill sets and you've mentioned before how you struggle to get out of the MTT mindset so stop making it harder for yourself and just concentrate on getting in the cash table mindset and start beating 4NL.
Why should beating 4NL be more important to him than beating MTTs? Especially given the situation where he has a good staking deal, a good mtt record and is underrolled for 4NL here as some of his roll is tied up
It's not playing mtt's, it's "not playing" cash.......
Always seems to be an excuse not to play cash. Obv it takes patience, discipline and concentration, mtt's not so much.
Playing whatever discipline u want is fine but it's all the build up and all the talk about "I will beat nl4 this time, I know I will" then in the 2nd session he quits after 20 mins....
Seen it all before, it's pretty tilting when you try and help and see others say the same thing over n over again, and then he doesn't put the time and effort in himself.
Its 1 thing working hard at your game, but all the literature suggests you play 80% of the time, and study 20%.
If he's allocating 40% of his poker time to mtts, and 40% to studying, it doesn't leave much left to play cash. Especially when you're quitting at the start of sessions and wasting playing time because of so called "tilt"
Maybe it's just a 1 day minor blip, which we all have, time will tell.
But it's goin the same way as the previous 15+ NL4 attempts already.
Not being in any way offensive here but how can someone who is brilliant at MTT's and must see all sorts of hideous beats and get LOADS of variance be also subceptible to tilt when playing cash ?
I would have thought all those hours of play in the 1000+ runner events knocks that out of ya system pretty sharpish.
With NL4 2 tabling I'd be looking for a minimum of 200 hands a day if that's too little move to 300 but always try and reach it EVERY day.
there is no way that anyone should be using that much time studying to crack NL4. a newbie maybe but not someone like the Don who has been a 'student' of the game for quite some time now.
cut out the MTTs. cut out the essay forum posts. no one really looks at HH after HH anyway
ive said this to the Don before. get a proper roll for NL4 on Sky of at least 150£ then grind. Doh did an excellent strategy guide for NL4, whcih I passed onto a friend of mine, who has turned into a losing player into someone who is making steady profits and looking at moving to NL10 soon.
once you've built up your roll, then try sats and tournies like the TSP classic etc. put sats into live events out of your mind totally, even if you are staked for them...cos no offence but if you can't crack NL4 then you have no chance in a 500£ Bi EVENT
this is like the 10th time you've started one of these thread. if you can't crack NL4 then give up cash totally and focus on MTTs.
Lol thanks MP33, that's put a smile on my face... Yeah I did notice you were on one of my tables. I was only on 3 but I didn't notice if you were on any others. I'm off now anyway, just put 1 hour in, £10 profit All from basically 2 hands, one hand I've got KK, raise big pre, called OOP (went HU), I hit my K on the flop 7K9 and he shoves £4+ in with A9 lol... so easy. I saw that, had to step away from table beforehand. was hoping to get his money also! had got a bit of it. decided not to sit back in after that as he'd gone. still, any profit is a good profit at this level! especially after recent losses nice hand by the way.
