Well Tikay, Im back from LAS VEGAS , your advice was  both helpful and  welcome. I took only 260 dollers with me for some cheap tournaments, I tried the web site   one of our friendly  sky players  pointed me too, well I played my first  tourni at the Luxor, $35 doller buy in  and 32 players and I won it ,   as I had half as many more  chips as my opponant  but he was running red hot and my cards were coming from the freezer so we cut a deal  $251  . I played 1 every day and recorded 2 x 1sts a 2nd ,3rd 4th 5th 7th 9th and 3 non final table placings . I learnt so much ,especially about myself and  a waekness of  my game, addressed that and won my last game, just to prove to myself that an old dog can learn new tricks .I am on such a high as I didnt expect to do so well,  but the credit also goes to you guys, your sound advice  and the quality of play now on SKY, everyone must go and experience it and win some DOLLERS, cheers guys , I owe you a beer TK.

I notice that there are fewer live televised poker tourneys and a lot of repeats from previous games.why is this?
Surely some of the repeats of old tourneys would be better replaced with how to play poker forums?
there are also less rewards or none at all for good plays no spot prizes etc is sky becoming complacent?

Hi Tikay, im KARLEBAY we met on the hotel stairs in Newcastle just before the SPT began. I won the £1000 velocity for the first time tonight and im chuffed to bits. Im improving rapidly, winning on many other sites and live, but seem to struggle on sky for some strange reason. I hope I have broke my duck now and will win many many more. Watch this space and pick me for your team as a wild card before your rivals get me. Dont say i didnt warn you when i clean up lol :o) Regards Karl

Thanks Cow, & yes, I know pretty much what the Post was saying......I just thought we'd tease it out a bit, & see if we can get him to realise how illogical his views are. Sometimes you have to let the oppo lead into you......

What a nice Post Melvyn, thank you very much. Poker players are such a moany-woany lot, so to see someone actually realising it's not all bad is lovely, well done you.

Glad the Vegas trip went well - very well by the sound of it.

That website, in case anyone is interested, is allvegaspoker (dion't forget to add the .com), & is essential for all Vegas newbies.

I'll pass on  the beer if I may, I'm strict teetotal, but a pot of tea would always go down a treat.

I hope we can hook up somewhere soon.

Take care now, & enjoy your weekend.

    Hi Organist,

Yes, there are less Live TV Shows now. Live TV is incredibly expensive to make, &, whatever was you cut the promotional spend cake, more TV means less money to spend on other promotional stuff. And Sky Poker decided to spend that money in ways which benefit the Community more directly.

If you want more "how to play" stuff, there is an archive of Poker School stuff on the site, & last year's "Sky Poker School" featured, over an extended series, exclusive tutorials with players such as Roland de Wolfe & Neil Channing.

Are Sky Poker becoming complacent? Well they may not be perfect, far from it, but complacency, no. If they were, I would not be here answering this!

They now have a whole bunch of stuff for the players here - the "Community" (Forum in plain-speak) is nearly a year old now, that's proven immensely popular.

Then there is - are? - New Player Rewards - HERE

    Cash for Points - HERE

Total Player, incredibly successful  - HERE

TKO, which goes right across the Community, & is 100% free - HERE

Sky Poker Tour, in which every Leg sells out weeks in advance - HERE

Play The Presenter, now SEVEN nights a week - HERE

...and a whole bunch of other stuff. So no, it's not perfect, it's not the finished product by any means, but complacent - definitely not. The traffic, which continues to increase & is running at record levels, suggests that they are giving - or trying to give - players what they want. Yes, less Live TV Shows, but that has proven to be a good thing, as it has not affected the traffic, & has enabled them to spend the money in a way that better benefits more players.

I don't think any Online Room offers that breadth of stuff to it's players.

But if TV turns you on, look out for a new Show starting in about a month. It WILL be very popular.

    Take care now.

You trapped me! You always do, *sigh*

Edit - Could you give me your thoughts on this Tikay? Here . Im not much of a tournament player but I think it may benefit other players. It is explained a bit more clearly further on down.

    Hi adam

If you want them to show a hand click here and post the relevant details on the thread :), could I ask, was this a tourny?, was it cash? or was it a stt?, what were the blinds?, what were the chipstacks and what were these 2 players like i.e. lose, tight etc.

    Hi Tikay
I'm suffering badly from chasing double-ended straight draws. Sometimes, after the flop, I need one card to completed the straight but it seldom comes. I read that the odds are around 32% to complete a double-ended. Am I wasting my money?

    Hi Ray

Yes you are correct, you are around 32% to hit an open ended straight on the turn, but only 16% on the river, it depends on how much its going to cost you, if you ar 2/1 to hit it, lets say there are 100 chips in the middle and someone bets 50, you have pot odds of 3/1 yes?, and would call hopefully having both pot and draw odds, but if there is are 100 chips in and someone raises 500?, then what are you going to risk those chips to chase the draw? debateable I would probably fold em and wait for a better spot, we all play poker differently the choice is yours, good luck :)
