    Reading during my own break.

I think an issue many people have when moving up (including myself) is we think woohoo progress move up and we avoid looking at NL4 tables. NL8 and NL10 can be clambered with regs we dont know, as a result if we started to move up slowly, say 1x NL10, 1x NL8 and 4x NL4 we could balance the variance and slowly pick up notes for NL10 find out who the fish are and who the regs are.

Just a theory and one mistake ive made myself, and i very much doupt im the only one.

    day 1 summary

    opening balance: £100
    closing balance: £100.40
    day +/-: +£0.40
    c4p 151

day started off well showing a small profit from my early hours session, my mid morning to afternoon session was great, i peaked at £127 when i logged off to go out. this evening the wheels came off and lost almost all what i was up.

i'd like to be able to pinpoint 1 factor but it was a combo of things, i did spend most of the evening card dead but thats no real excuse, i spewed in too many spots that i shouldnt have done. i can recall 4 or 5 pots that i did this in and thats what did a fair bit of damage.

ive had days llike this before and today feels like a loss but i know ive had days when the loss has came first before fighting my way back to break even.

lets see what tomorrow brings, some run good please poker gods

i jump straight in, a mistake in itself. i have tried what you suggest but i get confused with bet sizing and im constantly having to check what stake table im playing. it doesnt help the monitor i play on is only a 15inch and when im playing 6 theres a fair bit of overlap. the next time i attempt moving up im definatley going to try something different even if it means only playing 2 or 3 tables

just read this after a self imposed break good luck with this m8 doubt you'll need much of it though, cetainly not when you've been on the same table as me. maybe i was the fish!!? don't know how you play for so long at nl4. think i've managed 4 or 5 hours a few times when i put my mind to it but only 3/4 tables. i know where i've been going wrong in trying to build my roll up quicker to have another go at nl8. LOL! no way i could do it for any length of time like you - hats of to you for some reason i've also found moving up different. i won't say difficult because looking back it wasn''t. i just made mistakes i don't do at nl4. strange! why i don't know.it'll need to change if i'm to reach all the new year goals i told Rich about. gulp! that Orford and his challenges! hopefully your thread will show people nl4 is beatable. ups and downs are all part of it and sometimes in one direction for a while you've just got to put the time in learning as you go i know which tables to avoid if i start up again good luck,  David

In Response to Re: Beating the Unbeatable - A Quest : yeah its just hands played at the specific table you are on so you cant play like 15 on 1 table then move and play another 5 to get the point, when you move your point total reverts back to zero. the 2nd bit you maybe confusing that with league points, to earn cash for points you have to be involved in raked hands wether its heads up 6max or 10max. league points are awarded for hands won but hands won in heads up dont count towards the league,

Thought something was wrong - thx for clearing that up for me

I think Don,s made a good point about moving up gradually - I tend to just load up 4 tables at NL10 just like i would at NL4, but obvouisly NL4 is more robotic and table selection becomes more important when moving through the levels as its a totally different game than NL4

this morning has been quite something. it started off much the same as last night ended and before i knew it i was down 5 buyins. this resulted in a drop of 12 buyins from mid afternoon yesterday. there was a couple of key hands, 1 where i was getting a little fed up and called off a 40bb open shove with pocket 4s, the villian in question had been shoving a lot in the 10 mins previous so i thought why not i give it a go, of course he had a slightly higher pocket pair 8s.

the other hand summed things up, i'll dig it out, its a bad beat/cooler that put me at my lowest point br wise

i needed a hand to halt the bad momuntum i was on on it duly arrived, got kk on button flop set on ace high board, turned quads and got paid off by A4. this was much needed and set me off on a good spell. i started clawing back some losses and then got paid off in a monster hand. i had 77 v kk but i'll post this as well.

by the time i finished the session i was in front by £9 so from dropping 5BI tto being up 2BI. its nothing ive not experienced before but i want to highlight the swings that are involved and that its not all plain sailing.

    lets dig out those hands

Yeah thats the exact same mistake i made hense why i was able to come up with a solution. One i have'nt myself tested.

A way around your issue could be simple, arranging your tables in a specific pre meditated manner,

    E.g.

    NL4  NL4 NL10
    NL4  NL4 NL8

Stick to that over time and gradually add a second NL10 or NL8 table when you feel more comfortable you would eventually know what table is which.

Just a theory and not one ive tested myself

    Nice comeback Tintin

Could have been quite easy to tilt after been 5 buy ins down, esp after after losing 7 buy ins previous to that . Will probably join you at some point today as your hard to avoid on there - practically on every table all the time

I dont see that being too much of an issue when its NL4 we're playing and in TinTins case he crushes already. The aim of that is to build notes slowly so paying more attention when we're readless has to be a good thing.

don. i think ive tried the method you suggest once before but i cant remember how i got on

this might be distorted by the fact it was a tourney and also the level off buyin but when i qualified for the thursday rollers i was always drawn to it even tho i had 3 nl4 tables running beside it. i felt i was losing value by not giving them anywhere near enough attention.

it would definately be worth trying again at some point tho. trial and error

Even as someone with a tourny bkground i cant play cash and tournys at the same time. Normally if im in 1 tourny ill load a s&g or two to tick me over but i really really struggle with cash when tournys are on. Such a different mindset.

On another note, shared a table with you before, the one where i managed to get 99 all in pre for 100BB (leveled myself v that oppo) but i noticed you dont use auto post blinds. Either that or your lagging pretty badly.

ive always got auto post on, its the lag that times me out.

i think you described the symptons i suffer from in another topic. it basically only effects me when im utg and moving from utg to bb. ive lost count of the times it lags when im utg only for it to finally show my cards with only 1 second of the time bar remaining and the amount of times ive been sitting with kk or aa you wouldnt believe.  its realy annoying when the screen freezes as im due to post bb this is what makes me miss out even tho ive got auto post on and i miss out

yeah ive not had these since dropping to 4 tables, although i will be going back to 6 tables as soon as my roll permits, had a bad end to may that done serious damage. 17 buy in losses to which ive only recovered 1BI. Obviously i have a small C4P bonus to look forward to. But grind hours this month will be increasing.

    day 2 summary

    starting balance: £100.40
    closing balance: £125.40
    todays +/-: +£25
    c4p 351

can we wipe the morning session, i really wish i hadnt to logged on so early lol. repaired the damage of losing 5 buyins before lunchtime and the rest of the day went well. cant complain too much. i did play a hel of a lot today and thanks to the extra happy hours i managed to get 200 points today, a new personal best at nl4.

i was involved in a funny hand, i reckon i butchered my part a little but look what i folded and what the others had at showdown, it will be in my nxt post.

i had a blast from the past on one of my tables tonight. a long time ago i used to play tourneys, in fact ive been here from the start. some of you may remeber the old style main events. £10 7 minute blinds 650 runners. well i used to be no good in these mains, i did win regular normal tournies but i couldnt get to grips with the structure, my bust out happened at 21:28 most nights. yes you could set your watch by it. well one night i managed to last a little longer, all the way to the final table no less. i even made heads up. well the person who beat me that night appeared on my table and all i could remember was the thought of binking 2nd and being gutted at not winning but delighted in scooping £877.50. a little spooky.

    lets see what tomorrow brings
