In Response to Re: Get in the Hole! 2015 Season! (Greenbrier + Open de France) : You see this is why I'm always wary of making comment until the last putt on the 72nd hole has been made. We all thought the same on Thursday night and then Jordan Spieth incredibly goes and shoots 17 under par over the next 2 days. How good is this guy? Posted by TheDart
Amazing play by Speith.
I had him as likely winner but didn't back him. Hopefully Zach Johnson can do the business.
Relying on Dubuisson & Fleetwood in the Scottish today.
Already backed Speith, Oosterhuizen & Fleetwood for The Open
Just a very big SIGH.... As Mr Dart knows, I've been planning a very big bet on Spieth for this event since The Masters, well tbh, even before then. This course is made for his game, and it's always a weak field. Just having had 3-4 losing weeks on the trot, him 1/2 way to the Grand Slam, and knowing I'll be struggling to watch it all, made me not go through with my plan. What a t@at!!!!
Edit:- just seen Darty's post and Ice-Tigers response. Too much sun and sangria.
Forgot to post this. 2015 John Deere Classic Jordan Spieth 7/2 Stake £10.00 Pot Rtn £45.00 Be lucky. Edit. that's come out a bit odd but hopefully you get the picture Posted by achill
Three days to go and it can't come quickly enough for me.
I will be doing some up to date research and theorizing over the next couple of days to come up with a current pick or two, but for now, my ante post bets have been:
Danny Willett - 200/1, never mind what a win would mean to Danny Willett, a win for Willett would give me the biggest win of my life. I kept taking the 200/1 until the bookies told me I was being selfish and greedy and couldn't have any more.
Top quality links player, runner up in Dunhill Links, with very good form around St Andrews, having a great season, I will be having savers on Willett for a top 10 and top 20 finish and maybe even top English, GB and Ireland or European.
Branden Grace - 150/1, I took the 150/1 in January. Thanks to his exploits at Chamber Bay the price now looks very good indeed. Proven links player who has won the Dunhill Links.
Martin Kaymer - 40/1, I backed Kaymer once at 40/1 in January, at the time I was of the mind that the price wouldn't be around for long, but a poor few months, meant he was pretty friendless in the ante post markets. Glimpses of form recently has seen some interest in Kaymer, especially as he has some excellent from at St Andrews. Still available at 40/1.
Victor Dubuission - 66/1, 80/1, hmm, when I was thinking Willett, Grace and Kaymer, the forums number one tipster was shouting Victor for reasons I couldn't disagree with, so with Flash also jumping on board, I decided to join the Victor club. Found a bit of form just in time, though on yesterdays performance, he is going to have to keep his temperament under control if he is going to challenge this week.
Graeme Mcdowell - 125/1, I've shown great resolve and left GMac alone for a while, going on his form this year that's not been too hard to do.
But a promising first two days at the Scottish Open, challenged my weakness for GMac and seeing as this resemblance of form coincided with Sky offering 7 places, I just had to add GMac to the plan.
Nice price on Grace Dart - Can,t get better than 50,s now so left him out for now - Still fancy Justin Rose but hoping Coral will do the £10 FB in play when you place £10 pre -tourney
These are my picks for now (mainly copied off here as i,ve not watched much golf recently)
Jordan Speith 15/2 - jumped on the moment I heard of rumours of Rory's injury. He is the class horse in the field & also the form horse. The question marks are that he won't get much on course preparation but he showed his links ability at the US Open.
Louis Oosterhuizen 28/1 - again I backed him pre the Rory withdrawal. He won the last time the Open was held on this course, winning by seven shots. He showed that he is coming into form again at the US Open, finishing Tied 2nd, despite a terrible first round.
Tommy Fleetwood 80/1 - he was brought up on the Lancashire links courses so is a perfect long shot here. He has been showing well for the last couple of months and I feel a Top Ten finish is possible, particularly if the weather gets rough.
Shane Lowry 40/1 - you always seem to get a run with this guy. Brought up on Irish links courses, he is another that will give greater value the worse the weather. He Tied 37th in his first Open on this course. He Tied 9th in last year's Open & Tied 9th at this year's US Open. Should be thereabouts on the final day.
Danny Lee 150/1 - think he is good value at 150/1. Won his first PGA event two weeks ago at the Greenbrier Classic after a four way playoff. He impressed again at the John Deere Clasic, finishing Tied third & would have made the playoff but for picking his ball up on the fairway in round three.
Well after some up to date research, my portfolio is taking shape with the additions of:
Brandt Snedeker - 45/1, ticks a lot of the appropriate boxes this week.
Bernd Wiesberger - 90/1, his win in France two weeks ago was very impressive, as has his overall form this year.
Went out in the last group on Sunday of the PGA Championship last year, his Open record is not so hot, but he has played well around St Andrews in the Dunhill Links. Went on record as saying he likes St Andrews and thinks his game suits the course.
Won the Ballentines Championship in 2012 which is a renowned windy venue, his results, recent history and current form remind me very much of the position Graeme Mcdowell was in coming into the 2010 US Open at Pebble Beach.
Oosterhuizen - not just the most recent Open winner at St Andrews but shot equal best in the Alfred Dunhill St Andrews rounds in 2014 at -14 for two rounds.
Fleetwood - also equal best in Alfred Dunhill for St Andrews rounds at -14 plus -12 in 2013. That is a combined 26 under par for his last four rounds on the course. That is round totals of 65-67-62-68. Reckon that will be enough to win come Sunday.
Some other interesting facts:
Only Jack Nicholas has ever won at St Andrews on The Open when more than two shots off the lead after the first round.
Oosterhuizen is the only St Andrews winner since 1964 not to be a multiple major winner.
St Andrews has 14 par four holes, the most on The Open courses
The last five Open winners all played the Scottish Open the week before The Open.
Only one winner in the last 24 years (Todd Hamilton) played in the States the week before The Open.
Three of the last four winners of The Open were in their 40s.
Only Ben Curtis has won The Open on debut since the 1970s.
This century, 12 of the 15 winners have played at least six previous Open Championships AND finished at least once previously in the Top Six.
So we are looking for a 40+ player who has gone close previously, is a multiple major winner, who is great on links courses , can get off to a flying start and played at the Scottish Open last week.
Gone with a couple of early birds in the FRL market.
Pampling and Knox.
Pampling came into my thoughts a couple of days ago, no idea why. Now he's off in first group, I have to back him in that market 300/1. Knox is 125/1
As for overall, I really can't see past Oostheisen, but at 22/1, I'm not sure that's good enough value, so I've gone for another of my predicatbly poor gut feelings with Lingmerth at 250/1
I may yet stab a couple of quid e/w on Pampling at 750/1...
Just read the Betfair guide to The Open. I like it because it backs two of my bets. Be lucky.
Not sure a windy week will suit his game, but he certainly has the power to shoot low round here.
Good draw, going off in the third group on Thursday morning when conditions are forecast to me their most benign.
One slight problem.................
Aer Lingus have lost his golf clubs
Brandt Snedeker - 45/1, ticks a lot of the appropriate boxes this week.
Bernd Wiesberger - 90/1, his win in France two weeks ago was very impressive, as has his overall form this year.

Just recovered from the weekends disappointment. Note to ones self...... If u spout off about something, at least follow your shi@e through!!!
So to this weeks entertainment:-
I'm backing 4 golfers this week, based on a mixture of current form, major form, links form, and course form. The Fab Four are:-
Kaymer (major, current, course form) ante post 50/1 top 6 (I think), topped up at 35/1, top 7
Victor (slight current, course form) 80/1, top 6. And in my major lucky 15 @ 66/1, top 5. Also FRL ew 55/1
Grace (recent major, course, links form) 45/1, top 6
An (recent major ish - Wentworth, and ok links form) 100/1, top 7. Also FRL ew 80/1
I'm having one special bet, it's Blubba in the top USA market. 16/1 ew (1/4 odds top 4), cracking value imo.
Gl everyone.
So I reckon that's a 100 lines for me and 100 lines for the goldenstrike!!!
