In Response to Re: Get in the Hole! 2015 Season! (John Deere + Scottish Open) : Well next year Zach will be 40+ and a multiple major winner I know many an expert and player made a big thing about the importance of playing in the Scottish Open the week before and recent history told us why, though this year I believe only one player finished in the top ten at The Open and that was Justin Rose who was a lowly 74th in the Scottish. Meanwhile, there was many a 'good judge' questioning Jordan Spieth for playing the John Deere Classic the week before and he finishes a shot out side the playoff, whilst the guy he beat by a shot at the John Deere, Zach Johnson ends up Open Champion. Its not easy to pick a winner, is it As for my own hopes and dreams, it was a roller coaster week. In January I started backing Danny Willett ew at 200/1 and I was optimistic as I would allow myself going into the event. On day one I watched as the weather worsened through the day, which meant Willett went out in the worst conditions, yet opened with 3 birdies and eventually finished a shot off the lead. Friday saw Willett become the first player to double digits under par, hit the lead and stay there for more than 24 hours, which wasn't good as it gave me too much time to contemplate what 'I' might win, so I can't imagine what the delay did to Danny Willett's state of mind; I think he's made of sterner stuff than me. I was up early Saturday morning to see the conclusion of round 2 and was chuckling as the likes of DJ and Spieth struggled in 40mph winds, I was selfishly gutted when play was suspended. Day 3 saw Willett go out with DJ in the last group, a completely new experience for Willett, so he was into new territory. History and the media told us that the leader at the halfway stage in the last 5 Opens at St Andrews went on to win and it looked like a tall order to expect Willett to stay close to DJ. It turned out that Willett managed to outscore DJ, becoming the first player to hit 12 under in the process, but then came the drive on 14 where everything looked good, everyone clapped and then the ball went straight OB. In the end Willett did well to make birdie with his second ball and to hang in there and finish the day in a tie for 6th 3 off the lead. As the majority of my bets were ante post when only 5 places were on offer, I was already dreading the cruelest bubble in golf betting, your 200/1 shot finishing one place outside the places. Now knowing that the eventual winner would come form the final day 2 ball of Zach Jonson and Danny Willett, makes it just a little bit more painful, especially as it was Willett who went ahead first as he opened with a birdie. After a dropped shot on 2, Willett never looked like making top 5, though he teased by making 4 birdies on the bounce on the difficult back 9, to lock up that tied 6th spot. As it happens I ended up in profit on Danny Willett, thanks to his 80/1 second place finish in the first round, a 12/1 winning tie for top Englishman and a top up outright bet at 125/1 first 6 places. Another plus is he picked up a healthy 271,205 R2D points so stays on track to give me a return on my ante post R2D bets. But it could have been so much more, the opportunity has passed now, the days of the unknown Danny Willett being priced at 200/1 have gone, you only have to look at the opening prices for the European Masters, where he is 16/1 second favorite. Well done to those that made a profit this week and good luck in the future, its back to reality and the day job for me. Posted by TheDart
I added Willett each way 8 places at 110/1 as you were so keen so thank you for that. I also got places on Oosterhuzen at 28/1 & Speith at 15/2 so in profit.
In Response to Re: Get in the Hole! 2015 Season! (The Open) : Nice One. Never easy to time the Cash Out option right, I noticed he was odds on in running at the point, so good call. Posted by TheDart
I'd have taken out £2,300 if he'd won. I cashed out for just over a grand (still leaving an e/w bet on). The smart move was probably to leave the bet running (given I'd held out when he needed to play the last 3 1 under), but Zach was putting so well. Next time I curse myself.
European Masters, I'm looking at Richie Ramsay e/w around 30/1. Like Olesen at 80/1 for FRL market.
Oakville in Canada - not a boom boy course. Snedeker won last time out here. I think Blubba might still have the game and motivation after a poor open to do well. (Ignore my earlier Furyk tip - wrong course - he'll go and win now, obv)
Just been looking at the odds for the US PGA but struggling on who to pick
Don,t normally watch BBC but enjoyed "Britain at the bookies" earlier and saw that golf tipster for the racing post. Didn,t realise everyone who worked in the beting industry were all mad punters as well.
Anyone know when he puts his tips on for the majors?

has his own column in the racing post, his tips are published on Wednesdays
Cheers shanx . I,m sure the bookies will have put his prices in before we get to read it.
Don,t even know what these players are like but they were tipped as long shots by punters lounge, just for a bit of interest this week in the Quicken loans
Hi all. Couple of bets I put on. £50 on Jimmy Walker top 20 finish @ 1.80 £1 e/w on Robert Karlsson @ 20/1 Also had £28 on Hatton to win his 2nd round match at 1.50. Not great odds but couldn't see him losing. Be lucky. Posted by achill
Decided to try and plunge back into the golf this week. Very much out of the loop, so I can't plae these bets with much confidence...
Barracuda - Aggressive play is rewarded here, with 2 points for a birdie, 5 for an eagle and only -1 for a bogey and -3 for a double. Because of that I've searched for the leaders in the birdie and eagle averages. Top of the pile was Brendon Steele, but he was favourite, so gone for 2nd which was Hudson Swafford who finished 12th last week. 50/1
Bridgestone - Never very good at these high quality fields. So many multiple winners who have a chance if they play their best golf. Patrick Reed is someone who seems to just pop up and get a big win. He came 4th here last year when coming off of a missed cut. Although he doesn't have great form, it's better than last year. 40/1
Bridgestone Invitational. Speith is hard to oppose at the moment, but his odds are not tempting. Keegan plays well at this venue, but not in great form and around 35/1 not great value. Leishman better value around 55/1 - has been a FRL here. I like Hunter Mahan at 125/1 for an each way tempter. Posted by Eyeman
Dustbin is also a top link performer. Should have made play off here a couple of years ago (grounded club in hazard) and should have made play off in US Open, not to mention last 2 rounds melt down in our Open.
The only thing against him at the moment is Mr Strike is in awful form suddenly, and has tiipped him.
Not posted for a while, prob continue not to post as much. But it's a major week!!
Already have £170 @ 33/1 for the win, and £50 @ 8.25/1 for the place on DJ from my 'Major Lucky 15' bet placed back in Feb' time. Also £100 ew @ 33/1 from a single bet placed at the same time. That will do as far as DJ is concerned.
Nothing has changed as far as my thoughts are concerned with DJ re this week. Course and distance form going back to 2010. Bound to win a major one day. Previous winner this year. Likes links courses. Ticks most of the vital stats.
My main fancy this week though is Fowler. He, like DJ ticks most, if not ALL of the boxes. Massively in form too. 22/1 ew 1st 7 with Skybet. My 2nd fancy is Blubba. Again course and distance form going back to 2010, and a better player now than then. Going to wait and see if Skybet push him out to 16/1 before backing him ew.
Here's two 'rags' for u that may go well at 300/1 ew 1st 7 with Skybet, and 8/1 to be in the top 20 with the same firm. Andy Sullivan, showed decent form in the USA the past few weeks. (No baby to keep him awake). And Chris Wood (c/o Darty).
Wow Nice! Been Looking for Banter like this for a while.
Just added Golf into my Betting Repertoire Whilst Waiting for Jumps season in OCtober.
Wasn't sure of the bets though .i.e .....
In Racing I would find a Winner and if a danger was Present I would do Single Win on best choice and Exacta with 1st choice and danger second. (If representing Value)
A resonable bet.
What kind of GOLF BET is Resonable in yo Opinions?
PGA Championship picks : Zach Johnson or Jason Day
Final major of the year and with so many leading contenders seemingly with a great chance of winning it doesn't get any easier to find the winner, but here goes.
Jason Day 16/1, normally I would swerve a player at relatively short odds, but that hasn't always proved to be the wise thing to do. Past course form, superb run in majors which started with a top 10 in this event on this course in 2010.
A recent win in Canada and top 12 last week at the WGC, the time is right for Day to win his first major.
Zach Johnson 50/1, sometimes you can see scripts that could be written for a great story and sometimes they come true. Zach Johnson could be the star on the next big script, he was 3rd here in 2010, he seems to have held his form sine his win at The Open. I can just see a scenario where 2015 has just two major winners in Spieth and Johnson and it would mean both players would join Rory in 2016, one major away from the career grand slam.
Matt Kuchar 60/1, plenty of fuss being made about the identikit fit for the winner of this event, looking for a player with good strong recent form, already a winner in 2015 and a top 20 finish at the WGC last week.
None of which I disagree with, but its always nice to have at least one exception to the rule.
Kuchar is the man, as they say in the United States of America, he just misses out on all of those keyboxes, but his form isn't that bad, he was 12th in The Open, 4 69's in Canada gave him a tied 7th position and a tied 25th last week was steady.
A box he does get a big tick in is, he has won The Players Championship at Sawgrass which is another Pete dye course.
Koooch is ranked highly for a lot of the key playing stats , he lead here at the half way stage in 2010 and I like the fact that he is a little under the radar this week.
Danny Willett 90/1, not sure if I've still got my Willett blinkers on, but for me he seriously ticks some of the right boxes and his game continues to go from strength to strength.
He may not have any course form but that didn't stop Martin Kaymer in 2010.
This tournament does find a few 'rags' have a good week, so in that market I'm on.....
Bernd Wiesberger 175/1, not doe a great deal wrong since winning the French Open so impressively.
Made the cut at The Open but admitted he didn't make a putt all week, tied 31st at The European Master with 3 scores in the 60's and a credible 25th at the WGC have followed.
He went out in the final 2 ball at this event last year and again looks to have the game and form to make a mockery of his 3 figure odds.
Chris Wood - 300/1, a winner in June this year, he has the game that should suit this course and conditions.
