Thanks all 3 for the words of encouragement, it's always frustrating to get close to the money and lose, I would rather go out in the first 30 mins tbh, but it happens to us all so I shouldn't moan. I guess as I increase the average buy in then the win rate is bound to drop as I'm coming across a greater number of players who are better than me. I enjoy the challenge of playing against the good guys though, it's a great way of trying to improve.
You are putting yourself in good positions in tournaments if you keep doing that those KK>77 will hold and you will be back on your way to winning. Keep going bud really enjoy reading the updates

Cheers mate, thanks for posting. Part of the reason I started the challenge was to help keep me motivated and when people pop in to post words of encouragement then it really does help.
KK done by 55, last 11 of sheriff. At the same time AA was getting done by A 10 in the last 17 in the main. Basically, I feel your pain...but it happens to us all. (well, not Batsey and the other chosen site players that is )

See you back in the £2.20 deepys mate, lol.
Nasty. Vul mate. I'll try to keep any moaning to a minimum, but like I said, it's difficult to write a brief round up of the session without mentioning the facts.
In MattBates defence, he did bubble one of the last games I was in when his A3 lost to A4. It's obv very often a split pot but I fully expected him to hit his 3. I was gobsmacked when the other guy hit his 4 to bust him, must have been a glitch in the software.
Another struggle tonight, in fact it's the worst night for a while and it's safe to say I've hit the first testing time of the challenge. It was bound to happen sooner or later so I'm not going to beat myself up.
I can't blame the poker gods tonight either, I didn't play particularly well in most of the games if I'm being honest. Even when I ran like god in the early stages of the mini to build a decent stack that I could push on with, I could only manage to limp towards a min cash.
It's not a massive dent to the bankroll so I'm not overly concerned at this point, I just need to come back tomorrow with a clear head and try to play better than I did tonight.
It's not all doom and gloom though as I managed to bag myself a seat to Nottingham from just £5.20. It will be my first ever SPT, in fact it will be my first ever live tournament (be gentle) so really looking forward to it. Going to look for a hotel tomorrow and plan on bringing the missus to make a weekend of it.
Do I need to pre-register with the casino? What ID will I need to bring (plus will my missus need ID too)? Look forward to meeting some of the forum regulars and having a pint or ten.

Day 43. It's not a massive dent to the bankroll so I'm not overly concerned at this point, I just need to come back tomorrow with a clear head and try to play better than I did tonight.
Exactly. Good attitude. You'll be fine. Congratulations on bagging a seat for the live event - enjoy!
Do I need to pre-register with the casino? What ID will I need to bring (plus will my missus need ID too)?
It's one of those "walk-in" Casinos, so you may not even need ID, but you will need it if you win big, so best to bring some just in case. Ideally, either a Passport or a Driving Licence (plastic version which includes ID).
As to Mrs Waller02, same thong, probably not needed, but might be sensible to bring ID.
If she does not have a passport or Driving Licence, two Utility Bills which include your address should suffice.
No need to pre-Register for the Casoino or the Tourney, just turn up. Upon arrival, either go straight to the Reg Desk, where they will have your name, or come see me, I'll have a little work-station & laptop set up near the Tourney Area. Try & arrive at least 30 minutes before the scheduled start time to avoid queues or being placed on an Alternates List.
You can play your Day One on either Friday or Saturday, entirely up to you.
There are usually a bunch of regulars who turn up at most of these - @MISTY4ME, @SidV79, @Madprof etc, they'll look after you. Try to avoid @CTBN though, he's such a pain.
Very well done on getting an SPT seat locked up and I continue to be impressed by your attitude towards this challenge - especially when stuck in a little break-even stretch.
When it comes to moaning, I actually think it's rather healthy to let off a bit of steam that way sometimes. The alternative for many can be a build up of frustration which then turns into an explosive and destructive bout of tilt, so never apologise for having a good vent once in a while .

Cheers mate, nice win in the mini on Thursday and good to see back posting.

Thanks for the info, appreciated. I'm playing the Saturday so I'll pop over and say hello at some point no doubt. Looking forward to it, bit nervous about playing live but I'm sure I'll soon pick it up (either that or bust in the first hour).

Thanks mate. Yeah I agree with what you say about having a good vent from time to time, I haven't got a cat to kick so I had to let off a bit of steam on the thread....."It's my diary and I'll vent if I want to"
On a serious note though, I'm learning to try and take any positives from a session as negatives thoughts in the past have often carried over onto the next session, which is never ideal.
Well I said I would stop moaning so there's not a lot I can really say tonight. I played pretty bad in a lot of the early games, making some bad calls, trying too hard to force things and that never ends well.
I did knuckle down and improve sightly but things just aren't going my way, so I cut the session short. I thought I might salvage things in the £2.20 deepy but 4 from the money for a big stack........you know the rest.
The only positive you can take from a bad run is that it forces you to take a look at your game and put some extra work in away from the tables. Yes I'm running bad, but I'm also starting to play bad because of it. I need to come back tomorrow with a clean slate and try to play every hand as correctly as I can. That is one area of my game that needs serious improvement, I can't let past results affect the way I play future hands.
I've got one more session tomorrow night before a week off due to work commitments, which is probably good timing to be honest.

With my first live tournament coming up, I was wondering if there is anything I need to be aware of whilst playing so I don't make any rookie errors and look like a tit?
I know I should do things like protect my cards and not act out of turn but I'm unsure about raising correctly, for example:
Say I'm facing a bet of 500 and I want to raise to 1500 (making it 1000 for them to call) do I just say raise then stick in 1500 chips? Do I say raise 1000 or raise to 1500? All I've ever done is click buttons!
Sorry if that's a really stupid question, I just don't want to make any silly mistakes. I was planning on watching what others do and follow suit but there's no harm in asking on here.

Anything else I need to be aware of?
1. Just say raise and put the chips in. When start, always wise to verbalise 2. I only play AA in the first 3 levels, so best to fold v me 3. Quick vent-gone out of tournaments twice this week with set over set-when i had the top set! The 1 on here to cpfc was fine-the 1 that caused me to bubble a £2,500 Malta package, not so much
SPT's are fairly good and I think @Tikay10 will confirm they tend to go down a best intentions rule. I tend to say raise and then put out chips. I feel Raise to xx is better than saying xx raise
Hi Ryan, popped in to see how you're getting on lately. You seem a bit down about hitting a stale patch - I had a bit of spare time (and I'm quite the geek) so I pulled a chart for you. It's number of days across x, showing your bankroll as you've updated on here. It's clearer if we chart results by number of tournaments rather than by day, but I don't have that much spare time
At the end you'll see a branch. I firmly believe you should be counting your seat at a £220 cash win, it doesn't make sense to put the cost value of the sats if you're not going to count when you win the seat. I'd also argue (without overly massaging the figures) that you can disregard what happens in Notts and keep this total as your online profits, particularly as it'll be your first time out live.
You'll also see you're only on day 45 of your diary (in terms of number of days played), and you've already had to up your target twice! You've done great so far and there's no reason to start being over-critical or making frustrations calls etc. Relax back into it you'll be fine.
The other graph is your total Sharky (not sure if I'm allowed to post that actually...), the highlighted box in green is your diary dates - that's nearly 25% increase to lifetime profit, in 2.2% of lifetime games (ok data not completely clean here but again, time!) and without being overly aggressive with bankroll. It's pretty good mate! Keep looking at spots you could improve, but don't get too worried about results just yet.
Anyway, just wanted to highlight these as in my mind there's no need to be lacking confidence as you go into your next games, and maybe highlighting some work needed on the mental side of the game. GLGL! Oh, and see you in Notts
On playing live. I prefer 'raise to xx' or 'make it xx' or just 'raise' and put the chips in. If you're not stating the amount though just be sure you've got the right denominations. Other thing to bear in mind is that there'll be a pile of chips in the middle of the table during a hand and it's never completely obvious how much is there - and you're not supposed to ask (you can ask dealer to spread the pot so you can have a stab at counting) - so it's good to try to follow the action and keep a tab yourself.
