You can't beat a bit of soft live 1/1 at the casino although be prepared for some horrendous beats!  Probably would be good to take a break from cash if it has worn you down until you feel refreshed to come back, just make sure playing the mtts won't ruin your cash game.

Today was another day of near misses.

Played 4 x £1.80 all in sats for the ME mostly just cos they near enough all got a pretty decent amount of overlay, but didn't bink in any of them.

Nearly bubbled the £200 GTD £5.50 for the 3rd time in a row now lol. 6 paid and I bust 9th, so with 3 attempts and always top 6 paid, I've had a 7th, 8th and 9th.

Played 2 x £11 BHs which didn't go very well, no cashes and 1 head (£3.75) between the two of them.

Tried an £11.50 UKPC sat into the £52 Semi for cash cos of overlay but bust that 4th out of 4.

Binked a seat into the £55 BH from a £6 sat. I did intend to just take the money but I was HU with just a couple of mins to go, then it got to the point where there was like 50 seconds left and I thought 'urgh, this would be horrible if I end up not getting the seat in a min and I've ended up just buying in direct to a tourney I'm not really rolled for', so I de-regged it and then won my seat about 30 seconds later lol, and had to play the tourney. It was going really well, I had 2 heads and was I think 10th out of the 20 remaining, then a pretty horrid hand went off that bust me (I'll post below). So bust with 2 heads for £57.

Also had another deep run in the Mini but money is rubbish without at least a FT and I bust 18th for just over £15 including heads.

So finished a total of about £7 up on MTTs, can't complain really, I'm sure my really deep run/win will come in time.

Played 2 x HU SnGs and won both of them, I would have played more but with a few deep runs going on I wanted to focus on them so +£9.50 from HU games.

    ======================================================================

    The hand...

I think realistically I have to just say 'ffs lnjsdlfgjnsdlfnsld' and fold the river but I just couldn't do it at the time.

Flop I don't see much point in raising, turn is the dream card to go with all my draws. River I was going for a bit of thin value cos I think a jam folds out a lot of weaker hands then he jams and it's just like urgh wtf is going on, and he can't even have a missed NFD cos I've got it lol. As horrible as it is, I think I should just fold and keep my like 12xBB.

This morning I mostly played £5 HU games cos there are just so few daytime MTTs on Sky that are good.... in fact in terms of ones that start before about 12:30pm... there is one! Need to get a roll deposited over in france so I can play there in the mornings.

Got battered in HU games, was playing well but just kept getting coolered or losing races and finished something like 19-14 down, it was -£33 anyway.

The only MTT I played was the £5.75 BH at 11:30am that I play every day, and managed to FT it again for like the 3rd time in about 5 attempts. Ran pretty god like in early stages and by the time I got to the FT I have 9-10 bounties from a field of 58 runners! Then on the FT one of the weaker players limped SB v my BB so I just check with 92o... I bet 3 streets on KJ224 and they turn over 24o lol. That took a big chunk off me, then shortly after I 3bet shipped AQ over that same player's open, got looked up by KT and it was gg me in 6th place. Min cash was only like £10 but got £27.77 total with all the heads.

Had another go at the cash spin up, failed at first level first time then did it with my 2nd fiver and left with about £11.50. Was doing well at the next level then lost JJ v KK aipf, then 66 v A9o aipf and that was me bust so lost about £8.50

    =================================================================

Then this evening started pretty badly. Got coolered in £11 BH then QQ<K5 for the rest of my chips in the £11BH. Bust just off the bubble of £6 sat into £55 BH in dirty fashion, played quite a few a couple of £2.80 all in sats into the £52 UKPC Semi just for the cash cos they had a load of overlay but didn't bink any, played a £3 all in sat for the £55 BH cos of overlay, no bink, and played a £5.50 HU BH Shuffle and bust that in a pretty coolerish manner but meh it is HU and I won a couple of games before I bust so got £3.76 of heads, and within about 20 mins of the mini had already lost 2k of my 4k 'starting stack' so topped up again for another £5.

So didn't start too well, I'd given up on the UKPC all in sats cos the game had started and I wanted to take the money but then I spotted a bit of overlay in the £52 UKPC Semi and thought I'd take one more shot and see if I could get the £240. One more all in sat and I got my seat... this post is already getting long so won't bore with the details but I got my seat in it and took the £240 cash so very good ROI for £2.80.

Still had a few deep runs going at that point but it seemed I'd used up all my rungood getting that seat.... I bust the £5.50 Mega Stack like 2 mins later KK v TT v 99 aipf (only the TT had me covered), bust £2rebuy with AJ < TT and then bust Mini jamming 9Ts into AK and being virtually dead on KKx.

So the UKPC Semi saved the night. Aint updated it for a while but SS profit is just shy of £1k now.

EDIT: Just realised cos of the overlay (I assume) SS have counted it as me cashing for £163 and not £240 so I have broken the £1k mark on there really.

Well tonight was pretty horrific. Played quite a few MTTs and think I won about 1 race all night.

Mini was over in <5 mins when I got it in pre w/ AK v AJ and lost.

£11 BH, I got coolered first hand for half my stack then very next hand I got QQ and thought I'd just open jam 1) to look tilted and 2) it's a BH and I've got half a stack and people love a gamble on a bounty lol. Got called by K3o and that was me busto

£200 GTD had AQ < A4, got some chips back then AJ < A7 then eventually bust 22 < A9.

Was looking in really good shape to win a £55 BH seat for £6 when I was about 5/9 (3 seats) and got it in with AJ v J8 but lost. Played 2 more £6 sats into £55 BHs with no success and the £7.20 supersat into next week's ME just cos of the ridic overlay, no success either.

In total I bricked about £70-£80 of MTTs and the only thing I have to show so far is a £3.75 head in one of the £11 BHs lol.

BUT I do have the £2rebuy still going (my only game left) and top 3 payouts are this...

    1st £103.74
    2nd £64.06
    3rd £39.68

So a 2nd place can give me an almost break even night, 1st place and I'm somehow in profit!!

Long way to go tho, 4/18 atm, will post result tomorrow.

Grinding MTTs can be brutal even when you're winning the 80/20s.  Hope it turns round for you soon mate.

    Hi.

Not a rubdown or anything and I don't mean it to come across that way.......but I have read this diary from the start and I'm genuinely curious. Is this whole "pro" thing serious? You have stopped playing cash cos you're running bad and the mtt's aren't giving great results at the minute either. I know you're an extremely good player but how are you paying bills, putting shoes on feet and eating off this??

Will and Waller, I think you may be thinking yesterday was worse than it was lol. I mean ok, it was bad in terms of not cashing.... but if I didn't have a ton of days where I didn't cash in MTTs then there would be something seriously wrong... either that or I'd be MattBates ;)

I wasn't down about last night at all, it's standard for MTTs and not a big loss really. By the way I ended up bubbling that £2r I said I'd update about last night.

Waller MTTs have been going pretty well for me actually, dunno if you've missed a few pages :p In the last like week or so I've had an 8th, 11th and 18th in the mini, quite a few 2nd places, a deep run in the £55BH then got a bad beat not far from the cash, and various other deep runs, I'm about +£300 on MTTs over the last week or so. I'm pretty happy with that as well cos I've been really lacking that bit of rungood you need at the end of an MTT to get the real big scores so I've had lots of good profitable runs (like my 3 top 20s in the Mini) but not 1 big score, so it's good to be showing decent profit that isn't just from 1 bink that anyone could get lucky and do. If I close out just 1 of them runs, my profit in the last week or so would be like £800

I'm doing fine for money Waller, don't forget in the last few months I've probably made the better half of £2,000 just in C4P which I never mention here. Financially we're pretty ok anyway but I'm still withdrawing monthly whether we need it or not.

Don't worry, I haven't given up on cash, and part of me is quite eager to go back, but I'm enjoying MTTs at the moment and know that there really is masssive value in them. I know it's only a matter of time till I get the big score I keep coming close to... gonna be playing every ME next week for double guarantee week so hopefully it'll come there ;)

Just a quick update for tonight cos I've written enough to read above...

Another couple of near misses tonight:

Very deep run in the mini again, bust in 11th place in the most standard of spots jamming BvB with AT into AK so cashed for about £30 including heads.

I FT'd the £2r again, but lost a massive 3way all in pot 4handed which virtually locks up 1st place if I win. Bust shortly after in 4th for just shy of £50 (it was £165 up top)

Got a few heads in the early £11 BH and actually went quite far for the first time since I started playing MTTs properly but bust about 50th with £7.50 of heads.

Finished just outside the bubble in the £200 Guaranteed AGAIN lol... that's like 6 times now I've either stone bubbled or just off the stone bubble in this comp and probably about £100 worth of min cashes missed out on. I will cash one day!!

Not much to report in others, £5.50 TT, £2k BH and £400 Mega Stack were all pretty uneventful.

So a +30 night on MTTs. I was discussing this with MattBates earlier on Skype actually and you gotta be happy with these break even/small winning days in MTTs because you get your money in MTTs from big wins and it's these small wins that keep you plodding along and bridge the gap between your big scores.

Squeezed in a few HU SnGs during quiet periods too, £7.50 profit from them.

I'm aware how big the swings are in poker, way more aware than 99% of players. I had a near £3k roll a few months ago and that has taken a massive knock considering the stakes it happened at, so I know what is possible.

FWIW, I made well over £1k profit in my first month when I had just under a £1k roll, and I didn't run particularly well.

One important thing is that at the moment, I don't NEED to withdraw so I'm predominantly working on building up a big roll while withdrawing just to increase household savings etc, obviously a massive £2k downswing has slowed that down, and yes I could lose £1k in a month at my stakes but that's still pretty unlikely (just like the £2k downswing was very unlikely) given my stakes and my edge where I play. We can't all just heater ya know :)

As I said from the start, I'm lucky to be in the situation where I'm financially stable enough to give it a try and at the moment that's still what this is, and even 3 months is a joke small sample so I'm drawing no conclusions from that yet,

    Forgot to update yesterday...

Smallish losing day which is standard for MTTs.

Managed to satellite into the Primo after 2 x £6 Direct attempts and 2 x £12 Semi attempts, so got in for £36, can't complain with getting in £20 cheaper than the BI.

Primo was going pretty well up until this hand (below) for a pretty big stack at the time, probably a top 10-15 stack with 100+ left. I didn't really love jamming the flop but I think it's definitely the best option in comparison to calling/folding. Posted the hand in a FB group and got a few replies which agree with how I played it but feel free to disagree...

So that left me grinding 10xBB which I managed to keep going for probably 20-30 mins before busting, can't remember the exit race hand.

Did ok in Mini again, got another cash, that's probably like 4-5 cashes/deep runs in the last 10 or so minis, just need to get that bit of rungood at the end to close one out. 53 paid and I bust 42nd (still a min cash), bust jamming 10xBB BvB with Q5s, called by QJ and was drawing to just a chop on AKT but it never happened. Mincash =  £11.30

Deepish runs in both of the £11 BHs but still yet to cash in an £11 BH (not counting heads). In the £1k GTD one I finished 31/156 with just over £12 of heads, pretty close to cash, the £2k GTD one I finished 60/281 but no heads there, got unlucky a few times for bounties/bigger stacks in that like AA < 78o aipf.

Was doing great in the £2r but as is the nature of the beast in very shallow speed MTTs, you lose a few races and it goes very quickly, so went from a pretty big stack to out 29/150 just outside the cash.

£200 GTD £5.50 FO (my bubble game), this one felt like it was going better than normal but didn't get anywhere near the bubble in the end 24/64. Exit was the old bink someone then get rebinked lol, I 3bet jammed ATs into AJo and runout was xxxTJ.

Oh yeah, and how could I forget, did my Skype call on the show last night which was good fun. Not sure how many people saw it, but had a few people on my mini table chatting to me about it while I was on the call and asking me to give a wave lol. Also a few of them said 'right I'm gonna go try that cash spin up now' so it does work!. Apparently I look like Zachery Quinton... whoever that is.

Playing every ME this week for double guarantee week so hopefully my binky bink time comes now!

I'm going to use my right of feeling free to disagree with how you played it! When someone raises pre and leads this flop 4 way I expect them to be fairly strong.

    board: Qh9cTc
    HandEquityWinsTies
    KsQs30.48%15,6933,019
QdJc, KJ, QcAc, KcQc, AQ, KK, AA, QQ, 99, TT, JJ, JcTx, T9, AcKc69.52%37,7183,019
I think this is a reasonable range to give them for betting flop and we only have 30.48% vs that range which means shoving is going to be bad. Which leaves calling or folding. We only need 25% equity to call so are getting correct odds and we have position so it's more likely we get to realise our equity. But I don't see villain slowing down too much on turns so we're going to be left with another tough turn decision. Also we still have SB and BB to act behind us.

Based on all of this I think folding might be best. It does seem quite nitty but it's not like we can be exploited by folding here as we should have plenty of better hands on the flop in this spot.

I think your range is silghtly on the nitty side. You're completely discounting that he could have opened QT? Cos if so, he's deffo cbetting that, he's cbetting JT without a club too, he's also cbetting all NFDs imo which is pretty much all suited Ax but I've said he'll fold A2-A4s pre in my range below just to be on the safe side. I think this range is probably a lot closer, making me just worse than a flip.

Stove C+P messed up so here is my range/pic of stove

No, I just forgot to include QT. But that wouldn't help our equity here.

Not sure why you've included A9s+ in your c-betting range? I doubt he's c-betting 3rd pair here 4 way. JT w/o a club.. maybe. I think he checks it some of the time so chose to just include JT w/a club as the one he c-bets. Also NFD's - I think opening every single suited ace from the HJ here with only 22bb's a leak? Even opening stuff like QTo, JTo is somewhat loose. Depends how tight the rest of the table is playing though and our current image.

But if we assume he is opening most of his suited hands - I think he's not necessairly c-betting all of them on this flop (I think Ac5c through to Ac8c probably checks somewhat often)

Lets say we go with your range though... it's still going to be marginally +ev at best to get it in here and on a table where I think I have an advantage I really don't want to get into spots like this! If you think his range is that wide though it might be fine now to call flop and GII on non club/straight comp turns that don't hit us. But even so I think folding would still be OK.

btw Lambert curious why I don't see you playing the 7.30 deepstack much? Surely being a cash player like me it would be a tournament that suits you well!

Sigh just realised I forgot to update yesterday so I'll be very quick with that...

Played a few failed all in sats for the ME cos of overlay, and a couple of £6 sats for the £55 BH but no luck there.

ME I went pretty deep but finised about 30 places off the cash 107/632 and only 1 head for £11.25

Mini, again quite deep not no where near far enough, 179/592, couple of heads for £4.22

Starting to get closer to deep runs in these £11 BHs now, got a 34/110 with £11.25 so paid for the BI

Other £11 BH I was pretty much first out, can't remember exact hand but it was just a brutal cooler.

Also played £200 GTD, the £11 Turbo at night, and the £2r, went out of all in pretty standard spots, flips etc.

    ================================================================================

    Tonight was a better...

Another 2 attempts at £6 sats into £55 with no success.

ME - Had hovered around starting stack for a few levels and ended up getting it in on the flop with QJdd on KQTdd, was loving life with 2nd pr and open ended straight flush draw, villian had AJo for flopped broadway and I missed everything.

Mini - Didn't last that long, ended up busting 88<A6

£400 GTD BH (£11) - Cashed in my first BH but was top 9 paid and I bust 8th with no heads so only £14.18

£1000 GTD BH (£11) - Semi deep ish run, can't remember exit but bust 50/132 with a couple of heads for £7.50

£2000 GTD BH (£11) - Another deep run in an £11 BH, was doing pretty decent towards the end but with stacks so shallow I made a standard BTN shove with A7 and got called by AA to leave me with 10k @ 800/1600. Bust shortly after jamming QT BvB into 22 and not getting there. Finished 12th out of 274 for £37.85... pretty sigh with £360 + heads up top.

£250 Speed Rebuy (£2r) - This was going pretty well after a nice hold in a 3way all in something like 88 v K7 v A5, then I got it in pre against the only stack bigger than mine at the table. Probably +EV move but also probably completely unnecessary as my stack was very big for how shallow it plays and I could have taken much lower variance routes by just constant blind stealing, finished 46/100.

Then the big one, the score of the night, I played the Priority Mini Freeroll which got 43 runners, just a standard freezeout with top 6 paid and I took it down for £370 :)

Nice bink in the mini FR

I,ve been tempted to play some of those £6 satelites to the £55 BH but haven,t done yet. Just wondered what you made of those compared with the other MTT,s for about the same price ? - ie the £200 GTD and £5.75 BH,s

    Cheers both.

Well apart from the obvious difference that they're satellites... although that kinda doesn't matter because you can treat them as an MTT and just take the cash if you want. I mostly play them because I actually want to play the £55 BH to get a big bink and annoyingly Sky don't run any other sats for these games at all as far as I know. Out of the 3 you mentioned (£6 sats, £200 GTD and £5 BHs) they are by far the swingiest. Obviously they're very top heavy which is one of the things I like, and with 3 minute blinds it becomes pretty high variance but they're definitely beatable imo.

Meant to say last night too... that bink means my sharkscope for MTTs is finally over £1k+ profit, and in reality even more so cos it counted a £240 bink the other day as £160 because there was overlay, so looking good to meet that target of £1.5k total profit by the end of the year.

Another good night on the MTTs tonight, although again that near miss feeling of being potentially so close to a very sick night.

First game of the night was playing the 7pm £12 satellite into the £55 BH and won my seat so night was off to a good start.

£11rebuy ME - Went pretty well, no additional rebuys needed after the double stack start and add-on so was in for £33. Got a bit of a bizarre gift early doors when I opened 3x UTG w/ AA (think it was 25/50), both of the blinds call. I cbet on 224dd, SB folds and BB snap jams for 5k! If he's doing this with one of the few hands that beat me then gl to him but I call and see T6dd, manage to fade the FD and am up to 11k very early doors. From that point it was very up and down all night, dropping double, doubling, dropping down, doubling, all night. Managed to scrape inside the cash, got quite a few blind steals through then got lucky doubling BvB, I think it was A5 v 77... I know I only had 1 over anyway. Then shortly after the SB minraised into my BB and I shipped 15xBB with A9s into 66. Flopped my A and I was looking in great shape to get like a top 20 stack after being very short for ages but a 6 on the river put an end to that. Bust 52nd for £51.53

£5.50r Mini - This was pretty dull, this never got going all game. Stack wasn't really going down but it wasn't going up either. Eventually got it in and lost JJ v KTs, literally the second before we went on the add-on break. I just snap closed the window before realising I could have done a double rebuy and the add-on to have a pretty decent stack.

These are getting too long now so gonna compress lol..

£400 BH (£11) - Did well then it all went a bit wrong on the FT bubble. I was on the 3handed table and the FT bubble lasted forevvver. I had 2 opportunities to go CL, take another bounty and go to the FT, A9 v A5 and AQ v A3, I chopped the first one and lost the 2nd. Then bust out on other table and we went to FT with me now being last place. Jammed 44 into A7, lost and bust 6th for £46.21

£1k BH and £2k BH (both £11) - No luck in either of these, no heads no cash, got through over 50% of the field in both.

£55 BH - So I got in this for £12 which is always nice. First like 2hours were dreadful, just card dead, couldn't get folds ever post flop and was just bleeding chips a bit and folding tons, but you can kinda get away with it in this cos it's SO deep. Then I just took off as stacks got a bit shallow. Got a double KK v AJ, then took out Senorbegs for my first bounty. Things went really well and I got a couple more bounties and was eventually 1st out of 13 with 10 paid. Then things all went badly... I just got completely destroyed by MadeyeII everytime I played a pot, I had him and Haysie to my direct left and had just gone completely card dead. Plodded along for a bit, treading water more than anything. Eventually we were down to 8 players, MadeyeII had moved tables thankfully but still had Haysie to my left and BvB I ended up jamming K8 into his A3 and couldn't get there. So bust 8th for £182.40

So all in all just shy of a +£200 night. Frustrating it was again so close to being much bigger but I know the big score will come soon.
