Pay attention to the words of the boss 5caramanga....
He's helped me no end, even when I was there at my lowest ebb.
Your words oh wise one were taken on board, I've pulled out of the nosedive and once more heading skywards (no pun there Tikay, honest!) having final tabled 3 out of 6 in the last 7 days..all low limits but it helps to build the old bankroll!
Please, just call me Barry, everyone does , no question is a "stupid question", it what this forum is here for, anything someone does not understand, we try to help
IMO, the video is genarlist, the oppo could also be showing real strength with checking that is a decision you have to make if you got a good read on her/him and are absolutely sure you are ahead, but, if I was in a situation where you had pushed, but I had the odds to call, I would, you have then put your tourny on the line, lets see if I can give you a for instance. Short stack goes all in, you and I are on or around the same chipstack, you think you are ahead, so push, I have TJh, so what outs would i have, well 11 hearts, 3 T,s, 3 J,s, 3 9,s, 3 Q,s, 3 8,s and 3 K,s that makes 29 outs making 29 of the 42 cards left I like (I think) this is where I struggle a little), so I think I would have the implied odds to call, because if my cards hit I get most, if not all of you chips, not sure if this is the best instance, but hope you can get the idea
tikay, may well add to or even better the answer cos tikay RULES

Hi Barry, Thanks again for the reply. Actually I do understand now what your trying to say (i think! havent quite wrapped my head around the terminology yet!), hole card dependent, your chances of hitting your cards increases (from your example) if your sat with TJh, the odds of cards coming out that will make you a winning hand dramatically increase and the range your potentially hitting means the actual odds begin to be heavily stacked in your favour? Like you say you only need 3 hearts to come out, or a straight or 10 andJ to make a strong x2 pair etc..
The math is complicated, i bought a book. It's no help yet! lol

Can you tell me where that Video is please Barry - the maths seem a little dubious to me. I've never seen a hand where someone has 29 outs on the flop, to be honest. That'd make the player about a 116% favourite to win!

Hi tikay, its a video that 5caraman watched, I tried to make that hand up on the spur of the moment obviously not very well, just as an instance if you will

last 6 tornys , got done on miracle river card ! just my luck or is on-line a bit dodgey ???? Posted by badbadbad
No, online poker is not "dodgey" Mr Badx3, it's just how poker works. The River equates to 20% of the board, & whether the "miracle" is the door-card or river makes no difference at all.
If you want to avoid "dodgey" poker, avoid Casinos where self-deal is allowed, & stick to Online Poker at one of the reputable sites.
Heyyyy TK - quick question/reminder. Now that tp is over (for me) I want to get back to trying to play and learn abit of omaha, to be able to compete at least at the lower levels, 5/10 and 10/20p. You mentioned agessss ago you had found a wicked omaha book - but didnt want to say what it was called. YET. Just wondered if you can now? - I need to get a better understanding of the game by reading somethingstructured. Cheerz, JJ Posted by DOHHHHHHH
Hi JJ.
I ordered 12 copies, but they have not arrived yet - they only had 3 copies in the UK at the time apparently!
One copy is for me, I've set aside a couple for friends, & I'll give the rest to Sky Poker to spread amongst the Community when I eventually get them.
Until I get the 12 copies, I don't really want to give away the name of the book! But I will save one copy for you, as a gift*, as you gave all of us such great drama & entertainment in your Total Player journey, & if there was a TP Award for the most improved player on Sky Poker, you'd be short-listed for sure.
* Terms & Conditions apply. You gotta come play some Live Poker with me at DTD, to qualify for the book. I'll get you playing poker at DTD if it's the last thing I do. And you will love it.
Can you please explain what a chip and a chair tournament is Tikay. Apologies for my ignorance. JPW33 Posted by JPW33
And after a few replies, you then asked.....
"OK thanks chaps but what is the chair part?"
The Tourney title refers to one of the most famous sayings in poker, "a chip and a chair". When someone loses almost all of their chips in a big coup, the other players traditionally say "bear up mate, you have a chip and a chair, so you are still in". And poker is full of stories of players who have won Tourneys after being down to a chip or two.
Elsadog was down to a handful of chips on here one night last week in Level One, & went on to finish about 12th in a field of 500 or more. I was designated as the winner (although in fact 5 of us chopped it up) of the £750 entry UK Open in 2006, for £24,100, after returning with 37 others on Day Two having less than 2 Big Blinds - "a chip & a chair".
So it's just a fun name for a novelty Tourney. You get one chip, & blinds go up every 5 minutes so far as I am aware, though I've never played one.
Tikay, Where can I play live poker (as in Holdem) as I seem to be getting very frustrated recently by getting to a certain point in tournaments, then crashing and burning. I have improved my game but seem to get stuck around the bubble area. I`m not trying to hang on to cash (been there done that ),I`m trying to move on from that and progress into the later stages of tournaments. I always seem to lose my stack in 1 hand normally when i`m big blind and not wanting to play (check, then end up with top pair and feel obliged to raise or at least call). Any help gratefully received. (Live poker WHERE,nothing dodgy,Leicester area). Many Thanks Steve.. (STEVEMAX)... Posted by STEVEMAX
Hi Steve,
If you live in Leicester, there is a Gala Casino there, though I don't recommend it, it's not exactly a recognized poker venue, & it's run dreadfully.
Either.....
Drive 60 miles south, to G-Luton, where they have Tourneys every day of the week, at prices to suit most pockets. It's not terirbly well-run, but the staff & players are a great bunch.
Or.....
Drive 20 minute north to DTD in Nottingham, (go up the A46, it's much quicker than via the M1), who are open Tuesday to Sunday every week, with up to 3 Tourneys per night, starting at £25. Once you have played Live at DTD, you will never want to play at any other venue, anywhere in Europe, ever - DTD is THE ultimate Live Poker experience in Europe. Bar none. You are lucky to live so near to them. Go on - treat yourself!
As to the problem you have in later stages of Tourneys, well, by definitiion, we all find it harder at the sharp and, as ranges widen considerably. Just increase the aggro factor, steal more, NEVER limp, & most important of all, run good. The wins will come in their own time.
hi tikay,i was wondering if you could help me out here. it would be the best thing ever and would make me so happy if there was a possibility of purchasing or be donated some skypoker merchandise.for example,a hoodie,or t-shirt,or hat. I play a fair bit of live poker at local clubs,in a pub tournament (which goes regonal, and a few other tournaments but don't have any poker clothing and most of the players i come up against have poker clothing from full tilt and pkr. As i am a member of sky poker and play often on here,i would be more than happy to wear sky poker clothing and represent them in these tournaments i play in. would there be a possibility of purchasing some sky poker clothing or be donated some to help promote sky poker? thanks for your time tikay and can't wait for your reply or any help from fellow poker players. ashley (mush22) Posted by Mush22
Hi Ashley,
They don't have any t-shirts at the moment, but as luck would have it, I have one spare "mini goodie-bag" at home, containing a Sky Poker branded cap, key ring, pen, beer mat etc in it.
Send me your name & address, & e-Mail addy, by PM - DO NOT PUT THEM ON THIS THREAD! - & I'll get it wrapped up & posted to you.

I'm blushing here.
Thank you, but it's not quite like that. I never paid for the goodie-bag & the Gentleman asked politely, so that's no sacrifice to give him something I got given.
The other thing is something I care deeply about, passionately, & I already do a lot of work in that area wearing a different hat, elsewhere. Looking after new players is incredibly satisfying, & "small players" are dreadfully discriminated against throughout poker, (except in APAT, hence my involvement there), which is plain wrong. To spend a day or so a month helping Sky Poker newbies is not much of a sacrifice, all things considered. And I bet that if I needed a bit of volunteer help with these days, from experienced players, there'd be a queue.
i have had a problem with card expiring so put new one on but it had wifes name on and mine would not work, bank sending a another though my question is why cant we have a second user card ie the wife , i understand it could can be dodgey but if sky can say check its not fraud in anyway could this not be viable incase it happens again < cant wait for card 2 come through missin playin in tourny its been 5 days now and still waiting, gl all in main events c u soon ??
Hi Tikay, Hoping that you (or anyone!) can answer this question for me. I've only been playing poker for a few days (loving it!)now so apologies if this may seem obvious to the more seasoned players. When i'm playing, I try to play as few hands as possible and only those that I think are strong hands depending on my position (i've watched the tutorial videos!). Sometimes i'll fold a hand only to watch that hand become a flush/straight/full house on the flop/turn/river and I think to myself "if only I had stayed in the hand". Am I not playing correctly or statistically speaking over the course of a tournament or game am I more likely to get beat if i do play those hands? Or should I just be pushing my chips in? Personally, I don't like the thought of pushing a lot of chips (although I will have a look at a cheap flop if my gut tells me to?) just to see a flop that may or may not suit me, but so far i've been proved wrong a lot of times. Sorry for rambling, hope that makes sense? Thanks all! Pete - 5caramanga Posted by 5caramanga

Hi spagbol,
I am afraid it's outwith my remit to answer such questions. You'll need to take it up with Customer Care, I'm afraid.
Generally though - NOT specific to this case - the "one person one card" rule is universal throughout the Online Poker world, & for very good anti-fraud reasons. If the rule were not in place, widespread card-fraud & "collateral fraud" (chip-dumping, money-laundering) would be rampant in Online poker.

You try to play as few hands as possible? Good!
You should be folding about 8 hands in 10, roughly, & situation dependent. Later in Tourneys, less than that.
Some of them - maybe 1 or 2 in 10 - would turn out to be winners if you had called, but that's irrelevant, it's "result-based thinking", not correct thinking.
You must forget - completely - the hands you would have won had you called - it's not relevant. Yesterday it rained, so what, it's today now.
On Saturday's TotalPlayer Show, one of the TP-ers said something quite wonderful. Asked why he had Raised it up with a bad holding, he said "becuase I NEVER limp in, & I had position". I could have kissed him.
In poker, as in life, you can "let things happen" or "make things happen".
"Letting things happen" in poker, is calling or limping hoping to hit. That's not poker at all - that's called Bingo. If we want to play Bingo, we should go to Sky Bingo, as they do it better. Calling stations ALL go busto. (We are talking Hold Em now, not Omaha, the latter being a "drawing game" where we are entitled & obliged to call with a very wide range of hands).
"Making it happen" is exactly that. Putting pressure on other players, forcing them to be on the back foot, defensive, worried what you may have, being the aggressor.
"Making it happen" is also the title of a book by a wonderfully successful businessman, who oversaw the growth of one of the UK's biggest ever businesses - John Harvey Jones, & ICI. Read his book about how he "made things happen" in life & business, & you will play poker better immediately.

Hi Tikay,
Thank you very much for the sage advice, i'm just settling down with a brew to read those links you posted. Thanks to your advice for other players (which I gleaned already ) and the advice from Barry, i've managed to come 44 out of 600(ish), and third out of 6. Not bad for 3 games! I'm still being 'seduced' by pretty looking cards and limping as you say, so I think i'd better work on that for now!
I remember Sir John Harvey Jones' TV programme way back when (troubleshooter I think?), so I think i'll give that a try, even if the only thing I learn is something about a brilliant man.

If by "computer games" you mean Online Poker, then I suggest you don't play Online poker - you will not enjoy it if you don't think it's straight.
For the record, it is 100% "straight" so long as you stick to reputable rooms. There is no need for the providers NOT to be straight.
