Completed my horseracing work for the evening, so it's back to two-table mode.

As much as I love the Mega Stack, I would be buying-in just before the 75/150 level and I hate missing the potentially chip-getting early levels.

With that in mind, the Reload will be the second MTT of the session.

Dare I say it, but, the Mini is going well. I am currently 12/112 with five bounties under my belt.
  • mushroom1mushroom1 Member Posts: 645
I've managed to double-up instantly, to 4,000, in the Reload. I guess it's true, you really do get what you pay for in life. ;)

I stack half of those I bought in my first hand, two pair vs two pair. In for £9.30, and counting.

I feel the thread needs a more suitable title, given it's no longer Mega-specific - hopefully I edit this correctly.

Currently in for £12.30 in the Reload and sit behind a stack of just 2,700.

"Congratulations you have successfully requested a rebuy!"

Congratulations? Even the system is dishing out the rub-downs.
  • mushroom1mushroom1 Member Posts: 645
    Mini: 28/57 with, approximately 20.35 big-blinds.

Reload: Total spend of £18.30, double what I would normally expect and I have only £9.30's worth of chips.

First hand after the add-on break and it's curtains for the Reload, thanks to this lovely hand...

    This is becoming rather boring.

I forgot that, late last night, I had built up a run of four DYM's (£5, non-turbos), and now it's too late to build a sufficient run - unless I play turbos.

The night's final engagement is indeed the Mid Ex, where I have managed to spew 25% of my starting stack, losing three of the first four hands:

    Flopping top-pair
    Ace-King
    Kings

All failing to cross the line in front.

The last eight days have been brutal, but just how expensive have they been?

    1/10 to 8/10

    MTTs: -£212 (-27% ROI)
    Cash: -£91 (-4% ROI)
    SNGs: +£1 (+0.03% ROI)

    So, about -10% overall.

(all figures are "give or take" due to rounding up and down)

While this hasn't been totally disastrous financially, there is more to take into consideration. I feel thoroughly disillusioned and, going forward, this could have an impact on my performance.

Since my return to regular poker during lockdown, I've suffered just the one (small) losing month (-£50/-3% in June), which suggests that any suggestion of throwing in the towel to be, at least, rash. However, the relentless nature of my recent misfortune is diminishing my hunger.

Indeed, @Tikay10, one just has to ride it out.

I actually like Captain Claret in the 4:50 but don't wish to take a chance at just 4/1. Although a winner on g/s, they were happy to run him on firm last time (and 'Bath firm' at that!), so it's a bit of a guessing game with regards to his optimum going?

Ice Eagle has improvement to come but she was a non-runner due to soft ground in August, which is a worry.

Bobby Shaft's win last time appears to have been underrated and his fibresand run suggests conditions shouldn't hinder.

I'm waiting on a couple of huge 'Autumn Doubles'; Cambridgshire winner (Majestic Dawn 40/1) going on three in the Cesarewitch - one of which was not declared at the 48hr stage today. I shall be having a saver or four on the day!

Bobby Shaft was 3rd at a whopping 50/1.

Well swerved on Captain Claret, he was never in the race.

Unfortunately, I didn't play Bobby Shaft, or the race at all, @Tikay10 .

Very surprised connections ran Ice Eagle - her run, here, can be completely ignored.

Although I missed out on this 50/1 poke, I did find a similar each-way bet earlier that day - I'm allowing the after-timing nature of the story, not because I have editorial control (to a point) of this thread, but as it comes in the form of advice for those interested.

The each-way bet was Oasis Cove, who was third at Newmarket at 25/1, having been available at 50/1 in places the night before.

Oasis Cove had finished 7th to La Barrosa on debut, in a race that is working out pretty well (incidentally, a few hours after Oasis Cove was placed, the 6th, 10th and 12th (of the La Barrosa-form) finished 1st, 3rd and 4th in a Kempton Nursery.

I don't often back two-year-olds, however, on watching La Barrosa's debut on the 4th September, it initially struck me as being a warm race - something about how the front-two quickened suggested they were of extreme potential. Therefore, it's no surprise how the race has worked out...

    1st - WON G3 next
    2nd - N/A
    3rd - WON 4l next
    4th - WON next
    5th - N/A
    6th - 3rd in Nursery since
    7th - 3rd 50/1 => 25/1 in Newmarket maiden since
8th - only 4th of 6 next, but trained by Gary Moore, probably for future*
    9th - 3rd next
10th - run well at 50/1 next, then 4th in Nursery
11th - WON twice since, including at 125/1
12th - run well at 80/1 next, then WON a Nursery

    *diplomacy

Regarding poker, I couldn't bring myself to suffer continued punishment so, in an attempt to break the cycle, I decided to take off both Friday and Saturday night.

I am making a return, of sorts, this evening but, due to spending most of the evening looking at videos of yesterdays racing, I'm coming in a little late. Therefore, I shall start with a late-reg in the Reload and see where this takes me.

I'm sticking with the tactic I most often use in the Reload.

Double buy-in just before the rebuy-break, followed by an add-on - with the aim of starting the freeze-out period with 9,000 (50-bigs) at a cost of £9.30.

A £5.50 Turbo DYM plugs the gap, in the meantime.
  • mushroom1mushroom1 Member Posts: 645
I was coasting at 2/4 in the aforementioned DYM, until the chip-leader handed a soft double-up to a player in 3rd/4th position.

Couple of hands later I bubbled. All completely standard, I believe - though, always happy to be educated to the contrary by DYM regs, or anyway.

In better news, while playing a hand in the DYM, I forgot my double buy-in for the Reload. Ultimately, this saved me £3, as I doubled-up on the first hand (AJs > T9s).

I started the freeze-out period 2,000 above target and £3 under budget.

I am fond of the Reload, though, am fully aware one can be 1/143 at 22:30, and out in 132nd at 22:45.

Getting two calls with bottom set on this flop will rarely be plain sailing - unless we are facing two over-pairs (unlikely given the pre-flop betting), or two flush-draws (generally unlikely), we are never going to be a strong favourite.

While I was relieved this was not a set-over-set coup, I am still only around 55% when the money goes in.

After the turn, I believe I am down to only four outs to redraw?

Such a relief to run well in a spot like this, it seems as while since enjoying the rub in this kind of situation. I suppose the fact that I felt I got lucky, despite being 55% vs two players when the money went in, says plenty about this month's form.
  • mushroom1mushroom1 Member Posts: 645
Getting to THAT stage in the Reload.

    45 left. 23 paid.

I am in 14th position, but have only 18 big blinds, the average stack holding just 16.
  • mushroom1mushroom1 Member Posts: 645
I get Jacks back-to-back in the Reload, firstly picking up the blinds, then getting called by AQ (19-bigs vs 13-bigs), and losing.

A successful flip puts me in third place, instead I was left with 6-bigs, resulting in a finish nine from the money.

No complaints, just fine margins, especially in speedy MTT's such as this.

I need a sorbet to cleanse the palate, so I am attempting a DYM streak at £2.20.

Then it's likely to old Last-Chance-Midnight-Express-Saloon. Should that end in tears, I'll cheer myself up by watching the film of the same name.
