Struggling myself too. Chin up (or chins in my case), soldier on and the tide will turn (hopefully) soon.

Win or lose it's good to see you back playing.

I get the impression you're not a big fan of Christmas? Have a good one anyway and wishing you a profitable 2018! (!!!!!!!).

Never been a huge fan of Christmas, no. It's the commercialisation of Xmas that bothers me really.

Years ago, when Carol Singers knocked at the door wanting money, I'd ask them what they planned to do with any money I gave them. I was kinda hoping they would say they would buy food for the homeless or visit an OAP home with pressies or whatever. I mean, to me, that's the spirit of giving money to carol singers.

Without exception, they all said stuff like "buy sweets". Well in my mind, that's not on.

I'm pretty anti-social, too, & am teetotal, so Xmas was never my thing really. But Gill adores Xmas, she wraps pressies, sends cards (I've not done either for 50 years or more), puts up a tree, lights & baubles, dresses up in silly Xmas jumpers & stuff, so for her sake, I try to pretend I enjoy it a bit these days.

She spends Xmas Day & Boxing Day with her family (her Dad is quite old & unwell) & I don't do family, so I have spent Xmas Day & Boxing Day alone for as many years as I can remember. And I love that, I really do, I'm as happy as Larry on my own. Then, on the 27th, Gill arrives, loaded with bags of food & Xmas nonsense, & we do a week of Christmassy stuff.

Unforch, it coincides with UKOPS, & I like to do my little UPOPS Updates & Reviews, so that takes up 4 full mornings. Once I've finished those though, I take her out, we go up to London & have Afternoon Tea, or do some touristy stuff. We will have our Xmas Dinner on New Years Eve this year, so that's OK.

My "solo" dinner on Xmas Day? A Fray Bentos Steak & Kidney Pie, & instant mashed potatoes from Idaho, & Bisto Gravy. Can't beat that combo. God's food, that. Pretty sure Joseph & Mary had that for Xmas Dinner, too.

    Yay, I made a profit.

Was a bit ahead most of the session, then lost a £15 game on Game 13, but managed to end the session with 7 straight wins, so I was happy with that.

The £15 game was a blow, & caused a £30 turnaround, so was a bit of a setback. It was an odd defeat, too, more follows.

The loss of the £15 game I'm putting down to an unforced error.

I was SB & it was folded to me, blinds were 150-300, 4 players left, & the BB & I both had around 1,500 chips. My hand was....

    A-A-A-K

I decided to pot it here, so either way, I was gonna be pot stuck. My logic was that, for his DYM life, he really needs some sort of Ace, (or maybe K-K-x-x) to call, & I had blockers to both. We can assume the other 2 players had not passed an ace, so he could have one, but there were still nearly 40 cards in the deck, so it was unlikely - but possible - he had an ace.

As it transpired, he did have the other Ace, & called with A-J-4-4. That call seems OK to me.

The flop was 9-5-5, & I jammed the rest in, (if he has the 5, good luck to him) & he quickly called.

Was a good flop for me, but he runner runnered the flush with J-4, so that was that.

In pre-flop equity terms, my pot bet is fine. I'm 65% to win the high, can't win the Lo, & 35% to scoop.

He was 35% to win the high, 43% to win the Low, & 35% to scoop.

Overall, my equity is 49.77 & his is 50.23, so it is as close to a flip as it gets.

On that basis, it is much easier for me to pot it than it is for him to call.

His call is fine though, & I think my plan was fine (ish) too.

Am putting it down as an unforced error on my part, though it's pretty close.

I fully agree with your view on Christmas when it comes to the commercialisation. It seems to begin earlier each year too.

I have no choice but to try and enjoy Christmas because I have 2 kids and the missus who love it which results in my bank account absolutely hating it. But it is nice to see how happy they are at this time of year and I just want a quiet life so I hand over my bank card with a (forced) smile on my face every year.

The best thing about Christmas in my opinion is the World Darts Championships, although my life would not be worth living if I admitted that to the missus.

I'm loving the idea of Fray Bentos for Christmas dinner. Never been a fan of turkey and you'll struggle to find a better pie.

Hi Tikay, well done on yesterdays results and hope you do really well again tonight. I had a stinker yesterday, we all get them just gotta hope the stinkers doesnt last a few days! As you said earlier its amazing how poor results puts that little bit of doubt into your mind, I guess thats the challenge we need to keep coming back.

Was nice of you to share your thoughts on Christmas, very personal and brave of you to share. I thinks its good to share it as others Im sure are similar and wont feel alone now. For me Christmas is all about the kids and Im buzzing as I am feeding off thier excitement, but when they get older yeh my views will probably be similar to yours.

You spent a tenner on dinner for 1? Were you not talking about feeding 2 for about 3 quid a few pages back :p

Good to see you turning things back around after a mini-wobble; the 'old dog' must have learnt some new tricks.
