    Hi all

Sorry I didn't follow up on the challenge, real life and my job have been mental, I have had absolutely no time for poker and this thread kinda got forgotten.

As for an update, I am still fat and have put on more weight since the start of the thread. It is half term for me so I will try and do a little more exercise. Next week not gotta be the best for me but after that, I plan a new routine of a 30 min run at 6am every day before work.
Is this thread ending now the season is over or will it keep going? I have a lot of weight to lose over the next 2 months before my holiday and need a spurt to keep my going.

    Hi MrWh1te,

The thread will continue as long as folks want it to. There is no "season" as such, though one or two of the contributors are losing weight in readiness for WSOP time in Las Vegas.

I reached my target early as luck would have it, so am currently off-diet, but will be back on it when I return home, undoubtedly bloated, after my Vegas trip.

I am willing to continue, if only to provide inspiration that not everyone is as good at this as Tony and Nick.

Thank you. I have saved the direct link onto my start up pages and will upload a new start weight in the morning

I will be continuing with this. I will be missing for a month or so while I am in America.
Depending on how much I gain whilst out there I will have something like three or four stone to lose before christmas.

Good Luck with your fitness goals,

I don't know if you have run regularly before but I would advise at least 1 rest day in between runs when your first start out otherwise you will be on your way to countless injuries as your muscles will need time to repair themselves.

I would recommend downloading the Couch25k app which is a great tool to get you started.

As to weight loss solely from running it is so important to get your diet correct, worth trying to see what works for you but you will need to put a lot of calories in to burn otherwise you will struggle for energy so I wouldn't expect the pounds to drop off but you will increase muscle mass and lose fat.

Let us know how you get on.

    Thanks @Snuffer
I have run before and done some races such as the great south run.
These days 'running' for me means walking most of it, I am so badly out of shape I can barely run for 30 seconds before stopping so tend to do a walk/run/walk pattern. The missus has got quite a few fitness dvd's, I think I will dig some of them out whilst she is at work too. May be better for me than running.

I cant find the 25k app, which icon is it and which maker?

Will certainly keep updated here now

On google play store search 'NHS couch to 5k'

It is an 8 week program to get you from no running to running 5k without stopping.

Week 1 consists of a 1 minute run followed by 90 second walk which you repeat 8 times with a 5 minute warm up at the start and a 5 minute cool down at the end, so 30 minutes from door to door. You do this 3 times in that week with rest days in between.

By the time you reach week 8 you will be running 30 minutes with no breaks which is about the Uk average persons 5k time.

I started with this a couple of years ago and now run for over 2 hours without breaks on my weekly long run.

Also, I highly recommend doing parkrun. It is a free, weekly, timed event every Saturday at 9am at a local park. It is 5k but you can walk, jog or run it. I think there are about 650 of these events currently in the UK so your never far away from one.

    @Snuffer

That's really useful info, thank you.

Do you mind if I ask your approx age?

I only ask as I am obliged to exercise regularly, but I've not got beyond "power walking", where I walk 2 miles as fast as I can 3 times per day. I'd like to be able to run such that I could manage a gentle Park Run, but maybe I'm a little too old to be taking up running or even gentle jogging. For background, I've eaten badly all my life, never exercised (until last 2 years) & smoked a lot all my life, though not any more.

    @Tikay10

I am 47, and started running a little over 2 years ago having been inspired by Dohhhhh's diary.

I too smoked since I was 13 up until my mid forties, ate unhealthy and drank too much.

As regards to your age your never too old. At parkrun there are people in their 90's still doing it. It is open to all ages, shapes and sizes. You have elite runners running sub 15 minutes too old ladies walking their dogs around in an hour a half. You can never finish last, as the volunteer 'Tail Walker' fills that space.

It's a great community spirit totally run by volunteers, would highly recommend, all you need to do is register, print out your barcode and turn up at 9am on a Saturday morning and its totally free.

My Gill did a few Park Runs in Bushy Park, so I went along to support her, & I got almost emotional to see the variety of "runners", even Mum's pushing their infants round in pushchairs & so on. The community spirit was a sight to behold. I don't know who "invented" Park Runs, but they deserve a Knighthood.

    Paul Sinton-Hewitt CBE :)

Its quite an interesting story, he started it in Bushy Park in 2004 with 13 runners because he was injured and wanted to still meet up with his running buddies. There are now well over 5 million registered parkrunners and approx 1500 events worldwide today and continually growing.

Hmm that's good to know and I will look into the park runs too.
After talking to a colleague who is trained in pe/fitness, I am going to do some running but I will in the main use a fitness dvd that is designed for beginners. My wife used it before and it worked wonders so we are going to do it together.
Yesterday we were at a family bbq and today our local pub has bbq and live music so going there today. Because of this, I will weigh myself properly and set targets tomorrow morning and then its game on!
  • MrWh1teMrWh1te Member Posts: 963
Right, after spending ALL morning researching, reading and speaking to people I know who do fitness this is my plan...

I will spend 2 months on a massive health kick, to try and get down to 14 stone, but accept that it might be too much and 15 stone is my minimum loss. I cant get below 14 stone because with my job etc it would be dangerous.

Then, after 2 months (that is when my holiday is), I will resort to a much healthier lifestyle of exercising daily and being careful what I eat.

My start weight today is 16.6stone and would leave me with 887 cals per day on 14 stone target and . Obviously exercise will raise this somewhat as 887 is near impossible on its own.
I will make some lifestyle changes, such as walking to work (only 10 mins each way but up and down a hill), always having breakfast, swapping white for brown and dropping the 2l of coke I drink a day for water. It is a half pound weight loss on average per day, which I acknowledge is a lot.

If the 14 stone target leaves me feeling ill, I will revert to the 15 stone target at a more manageable 1600 cals.
    My target spreadsheet is here

I will use MyFitnessPal website/app to log exercise and track food to ensure I am on target.
Exercise-wise, apart from stopping being so lazy, I will do a fitness dvd regularly in the morning before work, take rest days when it tells me. It is designed for beginners. I have also just set up the wii and start playing sports etc on it with the kid rather than sitting on the sofa refreshing my football index balance. I have wii fitness too. It will all again be logged on MyFitnessPal app.

    Here goes!

    Hello All,

    Starting weight. = 19st 3lbs

    Week one. = 18st 3lbs
    Week two. = 18st 0lbs
    Week three = 17st 10lbs
    Week four. = 17st 5lbs
    Week five. = 17st 4lbs

The first disappointing week since the beginning. Odd in many respects. I have been a little bit more active this week, food intake has been pretty much the same. I have had results like this in the past, I just put it down to the body rebalancing itself, we shall have to wait and see next week. Short week as I will be weighing myself on Thursday before I set out for Vegas. In the past a week like this would have bugged me, I cannot do anything more than I have, so we move on.

Good luck to all those who are denying themselves sustenance.
    Nick
