In Response to Re: After over 4 years on Sky having to leave the site for 90% of my play : Same here, Can anybody that is having problems with the software please post their PC spec and internet connection details to enable further research. You can get all these details by right clicking on My Computer, then properties. D/L speed and ping speed (speedtest.com): CPU: Ram: Graphics card: Operating system: Overall windows index score: It seems there are a lot of people complaining, but not many that want to help Skypoker find a solution for us. Skypoker is just a small subsidiary arm of BskyB so it is never going to be the same as pokerstars that has millions to spend on development and support, so we need to do our bit to help if we want the luck of playing with fellow fun to play with Brits. I agree with your sentiment but it is unrealistic to supply details of every set up in use currently experiencing problems . If like myself, someone joining Sky is using equipment less than a year old, has Sky broadband, Sky software, Sky security and a Sky router it is more than reasonable to expect the download to work.
When I get my Fish and Chips from the Chippy, he doesn't ask what Knife and Fork I'll be using,
I look forward to the new software and being able to lose tournaments through my error rather than my computers incompatibility.
I must add I do share your optimism and it's magic the guys are doing so well in Vegas!
I always find it interesting people saying about all the problems they have with the software. I've played full-time (ish) on sky for years and I have never really had a problem. Obviously disconnected a fair few times but am always back connected within a minute. (are people trying to claim buyins back for this?) If I get disconnected and in a hand, and time out, I just see this as another form of variance. Cause there will be times when my opponent disconnects and I will win the hand. But this hardly ever happens. Maybe once every few months, so it dont bother me.
I dont even have the greatest computer either. Its getting old a bit. (2 years) Need to buy a new one, but while its working fine I cant be bothered.
Also I do play MTTs on other sites. And had far worse problems, like being disconnected for 2 hours (which I got refunds) and another site decided to do site maintainence for 1 hour during the middle of a tournament. These are very popular sites aswell.
I've just come across this post and read it through, dipping in here and there. MRBURNS makes very good points, i feel, in a non ranting, coherent form. He enjoys what you do at Sky Poker in many ways. These are people to keep and take part in all aspects of the site, SPT's, DTD forum, clincs and forums etc. Hellfire, this ones a keeper!! Please listen to him and see it as an honest person who would love to stay but feels he cannot. People appreciate being listened to and when changes/improvements are made then we all benefit. However, let's not let some posts degenerate into nastiness shall we. Arguments between members which go off thread just cloudy the waters.
Why don't Sky pick a team of regular people from across all levels(not just high volume/ priority players) and educate as well as listen to them on what people want as well as what irks them. I've seen great posts put by memberseg TEEVERS on technical situations which thankfully i've never had to fathom but i'm yet to see a SKY thread on it. Why not allot a person to delve these depths, Sky, and provide information for members.Information and the providing and using of it is the key to improvement. We all strive for that surely..... Even a suggestion thread again with responses laid out to inform them of reasons to follow or not would be a good thing.
PS I too found the league being wrapped up as a shame simply because i used to assess my play in some ways against people around me in them and thus provide further interest in playing. Even if no prizes would it be possible to bring back please And if not could we be informed why?
PPS Again this is not a rant ...only a challenge to further improve a product .

Hi Profman - thank you for your post and suggestions.
You mentioned not having seen a thread by us on how to help people with technical issues. Just in case you missed it, please see this thread from last week.

I'm lucky in that I suffer very few problems with Sky and almost never on other sites. However, it's very obvious scores of other players do and I don't think they make it up for the fun of it or for gain.
On one of the few occasions I did get disconnected (whilst all other sites ran perfectly well) I contacted CS. I have to say the response was poor at best. I was assured the problems were all at my end and even though others at the same table suffered CS was adamant that I was the only person to have problems.

I was never implying people make it up. I just find it interesting how some people have so many problems to the point they can "no longer play" whereas like you I have very little problems. I always know if its my fault for disconnection or skys fault because I ask my friends who are playing if theyve disconnected. Which is probably 50% or less of the time.
im not sticking up for sky here but am i missing the point i have brought a new laptop 2 weeks ago and ever since then i have had no problems at all no discconection nothing surely the better laptop or computer u have better the connection ? Posted by IDONKCALLU
I have new pc's, a new MAC, no difference. it' Sky's software thats at fault
off topic, if sky do seriously 'listen' to its customers, whats goin on with the tv channel? wheres saturday night mastercash? where is sunday night primo? surely the original lure of sky was the fact u can have hands shown on tv & analysed? not just a few blokes sittin on a couch wafflin on about nonsense! i dunno what others think but i know several people who used to love watchin the show just incase there hand popped up on tv throughout a tourney, but dont watch anymore....strange. as for the 'debate' its laughable, clearly there are many players suffering with connection issues...guess what cus service it aint our pcs!! it works perfectly fine on other sites! its frustratin, i like playin here for several reasons, but patience is wearin thin, its not a moan its a fact summat needs to be done, losin connection during important stages of mtts, big cash hands or especially hu games against muppets is soul destroyin especially if ur multi tablin (which i cant do much at all here btw without constant issues) i cant even be bothered goin to cust service anymore, i just accept it! talkin to them tilts me more! but why? its ridicoulous! the fact ppl are even defending it is shockin! but not surprising i suppose, wud hurst last 5mins on any other major site? i think not, so obviously he gonna defend his baby, however the sheer ignorance & arrogance of some of the posts is incredible! if somebody is doin well in a mtt & sky pulls a wobbly & they cant see there hands for 10mins, then yes they are in there rights to air there annoyance! refunded or not, it dont matter, it is still potentially costin them lots of money!... "i had AA im chip leader guy raises, guy 3bets, its on me....ooohhhh man i take this ive got it in the bag, shall i shove? should i flat play it sneaky? 4bet small? meh dont matter ive got aa, i win this hand i see big money comin my way, my roll is gonna be hugeeee if i win this tourney, perhaps withdraw take the kids on holiday! hmmm benidorm looked nice on tv.......yep im gonna shove, he 3bet he is callin all day anyway.....its on me SHOVE......SHOVE......WHATS HAPPENED???? i cant seem to press my button!!! oh pesky sky just havin its perfectly normal technical glitches again! oh well ill just have to be forced to fold, sit out for 10mins, get back to the table with half my chips left and be be forced to shove wit jack high or summat coz ive just dropped below 10bigs, ah god **** he called with aq im a gonna!!! ah well life goes on!! i love sky after all...soz kids its the busy bee club & caravan in wales again this year!"... nah lets be honest something needs to be done, it is gettin a bit beyond a joke now tbh Posted by potattoooo
If you took the time to verba1ise this thought, it may be the case that you were timed out.
I think the re-naming (and abolishing) of the " technical queries" section was a bad idea,--- when this section was properly monitored by someone from the technical team, lots of issues were solved promptly.
i suffer from regular problems but i may be one of the few who will admit some/most of the problems are at my end but not all if others are suffering similar problems. i dont rant and rave about it i just get on with it atm and i can play thru most of the disconnects i suffer. i think i would be more aggrieved if i was a mtt/stt player but its cash i play. my computer is rubbish tbh and im trying to get funds for a new one but thats not important.
it was mentioned a while ago about the new software was in development and people have also said they have seen demo's of it at various SPT's. im curious as to how this development is going on. i know there isnt or never will be an exact date for release til all things are sorted
are we close to getting to testing stage with some selceted players? or are we still a few steps away.

I like you Mr B have been on Sky for 4 or so years now. And I agree that the community is a major part of the reason I continue playing. But as you say, there are problems that cannot be overlooked. I too am seriously considering playing elsewhere, as I feel that there has been a series of problems and some decisions made by Sky have left me feeling a tad disillusioned. The community spirit is second to none, but cannot be relied upon to keep customers playing here. So Best of luck Mr B, wherever you play, and keep the old luckbox polished up. Posted by 67Bhoys
+1 . I,ve already started playing elsewhere, although i,ll still be playing the odd game on Sky and posting on the forum as i beleive its the best forum and community on any site
MP
Ps - I,ve read Skys response thread but this has never been a problem until the last 2 or 3 months and on such a large scale . Hopefully it will get sorted but Sky have to acknowledge there is a problem at their end 1st

I think we need to remember that no poker site's software is perfect Sky Poker is it's own entity (its not a skin), the software is unique and has been improved and updated 100s of times while i have been a player on Sky Posted by GREGHOGG
Speaking for myself, I certainly dont expect perfection. I had quite a few occasional dosconnects, and made no comment. I only made a post on here about it when it became very severe. I didnt contact Sky about it until much later, after the problems had persevered, and in response to a thread started by a Sky person actually asking people to contact them with full details. I took that as an invitation to help them to solve the problems.
The fact is, there will be glitches from time to time and i have also been affected by some of the disconnections and issues, but... tbh, it would only bother me if my sole source of income was poker... Posted by GREGHOGG
Again, speaking for myself, it has nothing to do with income. I am a steadily losing player who donates money to the winning players on the site. I play purely for fun, and I dont think the disconnects have necessarily made me lose more than I would have done otherwise. On the contrary, in one tourney, I tried to shove my few remaining BB in what I thought was a good spot, and the disconnect stopped me. After all cards had been dealt, it turned out that the biggest stack had had a pocket pair and would have inevitably called, knocking me out. I doubled up a few hands later and ended up cashing for about 50 odd quid. At my stakes, that one disconnect probably gained me more money than the aggregate losses of all the others.
But that aint the point. Losing lots of small pots, despite having played them correctly, isnt frustrating because it's a loss of a few quid here and there. It's frustrating because the enjoyment comes from thinking about the decision, and then making the decision (right or wrong). The disconnect takes the decision away from you.
any isolated issues i have had have always been resolved by me contacting customer care. Posted by GREGHOGG
Fair enough. They didnt answer me though. To be specific, they sent me several emails, each one asking for more info
("Do you play at work?"; "Do you have screenshots?"; etc) and then said they would get back to me. That was a week and a half ago. I sent a reminder at end of last week, which got a bare acknowledgment. Then nothing.
it really doesn't bother me if its not 100% smooth all the time. I accept it. If you are not willing to accept the odd glitch, or disconnection, then that's fine. There are other sites out there Posted by GREGHOGG
It's worse for some than for others.
While one person (you for example) might only disconnect once a week or so, and not be bothered by that (nor would I), other people have it umpteem times per session, and are annoyed by it. You might be too if it happened to you more often than it does.
Obviously there are other things on the market, same as with any product. But has any business ever been successful by telling its customers to go elsewhere? I assume Sky dont actually want people to go elsewhere.
One thing i would say tho, is that Sky Poker do care about their loyal customers, and they are happy to listen to eveyone's views. I don't know of any other sites that have the luxury of their own tikay, or the site themselves responding to any points raised personally. I think communication could be a little bit better in some areas tho, like on the community suggestions thread... Constructive OP's like this are great, as are the constructive replies. But we have something unique here on this community. Let's not ruin it with petty squabbles or pointless moaning eh. Posted by GREGHOGG
I mind the disconnects far less than I mind being told that it's petty to refer to the disconnects. As I said already, I only contacted Sky about it because of a thread on here. But even in that very thread, the Sky person suggested that people were complaining for the sake of it. That isnt a great example of them listening to people's views. And, as I say, they've not substantively responded after a week and a half.
Could it be that the people who have never had any problems think that Sky is good at responding, whereas the people who have actually tried to discuss an issue with Sky are less convinced?
Do you know what me makes laugh about the British. We don't half love a good moan and then doing nothing about it but continue to moan. I believe, unless the law has changed, we live in a free society and as a result we as the customer have the right to choose. I therefore suggest that if you are not happy with the product that is Sky Poker go try another product. You will find one of two things. There are better products out there or Sky Poker is the best product for you.
I have tried other products and found a more suitable one for my needs at the moment, but hope one day Sky Poker will again become my preferred choice. That is down to Sky improving their offer and becoming the preferred choice. It's what happens in a competitiive market place.
I am pleased to see me leave the site on such a great debate. I did what I said and try one more time but losing hand after hand not just the odd one it is unplayable
I have enjoyed my time here to such extent I am leaving my account open just in hope things change. As I would love to consider coming back again one day.
Hope Sky hurry up and announce what is happening with this new software (more importantly when) ... and new league points system thingy . Then you'll know when to come back
