Well Gents, turning in.. I was thinking.... £€$ my win double, a personal win double!
that GYPSY BOY twas trying all right
But, delighted with MOSTALLIM winning at 9-2, cracking ride by the jockey with the 5lb claim
all bets, running points total - 20.05
  • misterpjmisterpj Member Posts: 3,339
tiny technical point, with enhanced places, of course BOG does not apply, even though various odds comp sites, not up to speed, didn't matter in this case, as backed at 9-2 this morning, sp 9-2, although in the minutes pre race, 11-2 > 9-2
Of course I back mine, always, here, there, everywhere, no need to 'flash up monies' a, point, can be, 1p £1 £10 £25 etc, going to have a good look, at the Festival this evening.
The 16-1 shot, I fancied, and mentioned, hasn't run, but over the weekend, 16s into 9s? can't see why, unless tipped up somewhere.

    the ante post portfolio

    Betfair Hurdle this Saturday
    MEITER 12 points ew 13-2 1 2 3 4 5 a fifth
    FIFTY BALL 5 points ew 14-1 1 2 3 4 5 a fifth

full Cheltenham ante post (which after last weekend, is not looking as good as I hoped) but they have all been backed and advised, just five short weeks from today! (hopefully?) we will all be enjoying Day 1 with the full Irish Contingent. As you probably know, as of yesterday, Skybet now gone all Cheltenham bets from this point are non runner no bet

    Champion Hurdle
SAINT ROI 10 ew 10-1 nrnb
    GOSHEN 3 ew 16-1 nrnb
NOT SO SLEEPY 2.5 ew 50-1
    °add° one more bet
SILVER STREAK 4.5 points ew 11-1 nrnb
    Gold Cup
MINELLA INDO 10 ew 8-1 nrnb
    ROYALE PAGALLIE 50-1 ew nrnb
°add° one more bet. I know its age, I know it's unlikely, but these are strange times and a strange Cheltenham looms,in only 5 weeks. the horse is a warrior, a front running grinder, and looked in rather good nick to me at the weekend
as short as 12s,but 16s with 4 layers
NATIVE RIVER 4 points ew 16-1
    Supreme Novices
THIRD TIME LUCKI 15 ew 16-1 nrnb
    Arkle Challenge Trophy
CAPTAIN GUINESS 2.5 ew 20-1 nrnb
    Queen Mother Champion Chase
    POLITILOGE 10 ew 5-1 nrnb
    Ryanair Chase
MASTER TOMMY TUCKER 2.5 ew 20-1 nrnb
    Champion Bumper
    KILCRUIT 30 points win 7-4

short summary, banker, now, a, no brainer KILCRUIT in the bumper, my personal next 'most' interesting is how ROYAL PAGALLIE and NATIVE RIVER go, in the Gold Cup, and can't wait to see how the Champion Hurdle plays out.

Got 3 horses already backed for the 2021 Classics
DERAB INDIGO GIRL PRELAVENCE, but they can wait
An interesting 5 weeks coming up

    one bet today

    SOUTHWELL 18.15
    No 4 RAFIO ( G Moore)
10 points win 5-2 with BOG several places

probably, only my old mate gpc70 will get this, look what's entered, Lingfield Saturday!!!

horse been in hiding for months now entered in a novice race.
  • misterpjmisterpj Member Posts: 3,339
Hey gpc and all that love their racing.

Hope this is OK, I think one of the former Big 4 (bookmakers) should hang their heads in shame.

Might just be me, because of age, and fantastic memories, of these on course bookmakers, back when going racing, was pure theatre, horses and dogs, especially so, because of proper old school bookmakers, like these.
    Gentleman All, Proper characters,took layed paid settled honored bets, on a two second whisper, if you were known to them,bets went into the ledger;
    'down to me'
And the big difference, all bet to their opinion. Using their own cash bank rolls.

John Power John the Viking Power
(theatre, never without a large Cigar, fearless layer, when John got the lot, not shy about letting the punters know, and you wouldn't want to be owing John, and not settle up!) used to go to Wembley dogs with Toffee (Al Ali) huge Punter, and owner, we would be suited and booted every time, John Power would let Toffee bet through the card, huge bets, and settle up either way, at the end, whilst behind us, a fella in a lurid yellow shellsuit, would be wanting a monkey on one, without a bean in his pocket, that chap, had the surname, Findlay!
    Stephen Little
(theatre, always parked a Bentley or Roller behind his pitch, non pc Mink Coat, entertainment personified)
    Joe Bates
(proper character, bookie, owner, Punter, even had a tipping line!)
    fearless FREDDIE WILLIAMS
    Gary Selby
( 2 reasons) Gary was at Sandown the day the judge called the wrong result, took ten minutes to correct it, and Gary paid out plenty, twice! bad day Gazza, whom to say he was fuming, is an understatement, big bloke is Gary, but Gary had a fantastic day, when a Southern point to pointer, called ZEBRA, won, and he got the lot, all because the board sheet, got folded under without Zebra name appearing on the board, and it was 'a rag'
Who remembers a certain bookmaker John Batten?
turned up bright and early Epsom Derby Day, Benny The Dips Derby, set up his pitch, had the longest queue of punters striking bets, all day, only betting on the Derby, because his board was betting over broke, went for a 'relief break as they came under orders for the Derby, never, ever to be seen again, or ever get his collar felt! certainly had a sense of humour, did John, check the betting ticket below, and see if something makes you chuckle?!!!
    William Hill the William Hill
Who, if looking down, must detest the firm that bares his name (explain at end) a picture of each, in action below, honorable mentions must go to Micky Asparagus Kid Fletcher, David Richardson, list goes on and on

Right, you all know Cheltenham Day 1 race 1 five weeks today, unless changed, race 1 always the Supreme Novices Hurdle.
You all know the Cheltenham Champion Bumper horse that is the Hotpot having won like Arrazi at the weekend
Does, it disgust anyone else, like it does me, seeing KILCRUIT should be a million to one to run in this year's Supreme Novices Hurdle, that one 'former Big 4 firm' has KILCRUIT 16-1 5th fav, for this year's Supreme Novices.
Not even entered, and very definitely won't be.
William Hill you have sunk to new lows, hope the FIRE AWAY WHISTLING DIXIE firm, fill William Hill right in!

Paul is that the Dave Richardson used to bet at Catford and local southern race track's?
  • misterpjmisterpj Member Posts: 3,339
certain sure, let me and George the Greek have a rather large lump, Sard drawn 1,Gold Collar semi, never ever forget that race, George was a cards, and racing man, I told him all week we have got to back this dog on Sat night, I thought drawn red was perfect, usually ran out of middle boxes, this was when, Catford was electric, place full, we went there, for one bet, got there pre racing, in the Main stand bar, all, every usual suspect in there, just drank, watched, waited, burning a big hole in my pocket, a proper lump, half mine, half George's, whole place, ring, restaurants, stand, Jammed, similar to the old Wimbledon on Derby final night.
I quietly asked, 'Mr Richardson' will you lay me, an X too X the top.
A nod of the head (price asked and given was better than on any board, even his own) no ticket asked, given or expected,a, thick lump discreetly handed over.
it was an effort, to get to the top of the stands, 10 seconds into the race, george the greek needs smelling salts, Sard totally missed it, went up last, just got a run round the first, the non staying sprinter that went, 10 15 clear, I knew, it wouldn't get 555 but George didn't!
Sard was 10 down into the 3rd,and 5 clear off the 5th bend (555) bends 12,34,56
Mr Richardson discreetly did his duty, with a simple well done, although Sard wasnt fav, returned I think, either 6-4,13-8 from +2s,cant remember the favs name, touch of odds on, think it was Ginger Mcgees. Out the track rapid, down to the Rushey Green Indian, and a toast to Mr Richardson, he had Sandown pitch and others, in those special memory days.
He was always, immaculate, well mannered, polite.

.... as Terry @vaigret said, this thread is a great addition to the Forum, certainly for the Racing fans.

I knew we'd have a lot in common re:- Love of Poker (you do need to post Hand Histories properly though, instead of multiple screenshots :#:s ) and Horse Racing.

I don't follow the Sand-Stuff much, but I do like watching the Top Trainers horses @ Kempton and Newcastle ...... and Gary Moore at your local track, he very nearly pulled off a 6-timer last week in the 'Jumper's Bumpers' ....three winners and three 2nds (two of the 2nds by head, and neck)

My opinion on the 16.45pm Kempton Race that your selection Johnny G's UNDER WRAPS finished 3rd in. I think it will work out to be a very good Race.

The Winner, INVINCIBLE SWAGGER (Trained by Master Trainer R.Varian for a NEW Arab Owner, and looked a $Million with a real shine to his coat), opened quite short on his first ever run (always a sign he has a lot of ability) but drifted in betting. Looked pretty clueless in race, but showed a really good turn of foot to easily collar leader (who was just one-paced in the last 100yards), and Won going away.

But the 2nd, JOIN FORCES had reared leaving the stalls, but was very keen and led after a furlong, still racing a bit too keenly. Understandable she had no answer to the finishing kick of INVINCIBLE SWAGGER, but kept on for a good 2nd. She's a Big Filly, so there should be plenty of improvement, especially when she learns to settle...... and is trained by the very shrewd James Tate, imo one of the best and most under-rated Flat Trainers around.

Definitely no disgrace UNDER WRAPS finishing 3rd to these two horses :)

    GOOD LUCK :)

only half an hour ago, a good pal, in your business, sent me a message, him feeling on the brink?
No idea, and cannot second guess, when, if, and more to the point, how the hospitality business, 'comes back'
Another example, good pal of mine, 2.4 children, in his forties, built his 'little business from nothing' took him 10 years, employs ten, specialist little bodyshop, 95% of his business insurance repairs, and just after Xmas, he told me quarter on quarter, last three, his insurance work, almost dried up, not furloughed any of his staff, (at beginning this year) kept them working and getting wages,... just, by buying out his own pocket, D cat accident damage stuff, to put in his own workshop, to repair, and, they are top drawer at what they do, then sell repaired declared Cat D stuff. But, certainly not the right time, to have a dozen repaired motors, standing unsold.
I asked him, about business 'help' he laughed, said your joking? something to do with rateable value of his premises.

Anyway, best wishes, never give up on the gee gees or Poker! although, my poker 'form' is horrendous, made a final table early hours 70 plus runners, £5.50, big stack rivers my QQ with a 2 (1) outer, played 1 BH today, 3 way all in on the flop, flopped the Q flush, ahead, guess!

Run great Prof, home made curry all prepped, now where is that beer?

wouldn't want anything I write, meandering down memory lane! to come across as anything reflective! or, when it comes to trying to be profitable at the punting game, offering to 'teach' anyone to suck an egg!

In an ideal world, every race need to be watched and reviewed, every evening.
In an ideal world, get a good 'tracker' horses, stables, jockeys, that track entries
Big Clues can be gleaned, just from watching entries, more so when a horse you have your eye on, gets multiple entries.

You need a working organic list, that, is added to when appropriate, and deleted from when appropriate, ie, when a yard goes Hot, and a yard goes Cold, the defination of hot and cold not so easy, trainers, yards, in the Main creatures of habit, cyclical, big helpful Clues can be gleaned.
Add when hot, delete when cold.
Jockeys, again, personal choice, wish I had latched onto, a young Peter Scudamore all day long, or obviously an unknown A P McCoy.
For the future, on the flat, Harry Bentley (dubai at mo) needs keeping onside. Young Cieren Fallon, son of Kieran! every time I even think of his name, always, BALLINGER RIDGE (Lingfield! Court case!!) and Top Cees come to mind, not specifically because of Kieren, more Jack and Linda Ramsen, plus Emma, plus Veitch!!!

Anyways, the bet I put up today, MELGATE MAJUERE tried to sort of explain, here is another obvious nugget, any horse, connected to the name Easterby, when 'they go hot' they go red hot, when they send one, and its backed, pay attention, the above horse, and yard are connected, its no World beater, seller, c6 c5, **** of a journey to Lingfield and back, for it to run like it did, I might be right, I might be wrong, have a hunch, MELGATE MAJUERE will get 'more assistance from the saddle today!' and might? improve for the step up in trip

take a look, at entries for horses I am following, every horse listed, I have backed, more than once, in the not to distant prior, and will in the not to distant future, and here is a little nugget of Intel.

One horse, in the list below, I have never mentioned, ti's with a high profile jumps trainer, who is straight as a dye, this horse, well under the radar, and be assured, a certain Mr P Nicholls thinks potentially, one of his exciting inmates.
Lightly raced, ran at the last Cheltenham festival, only 3 runs, in a year, form 0-1U. the U, put that down to Cobden, was 2 out, going well, would be more confident if Bryony rode it, but, its in to run in a hot race, this Saturday. 14-1 with everyone, take your pick, 14-1 a quarter 1 2 3 4 or 14-1 a fifth 1 2 3 4 5
Me,I back it with Skybet, 6 points each way 14-1 a fifth, 1 2 3 4 5, race is this Saturdays Betfair Hurdle, my 3 against the field, horse that paragraph about is first of list

    THYME WHITE 14-1
    FIFTY BALL 14-1
    MIETIER 8-1

    'gp' Ryan Moore on Ahdab?!

Gary, worked with Gary, both rotund, but Mr Selby is hilarious, we have a mutual love of the Cornish Comic Genius, Jethro..

can only ever let 'you know' in real time.

    You know, when a horse shows remarkable improved form;

improve for, a run, a wind op, a change of scenery, the application of blinkers, the application of a hood, the application of cheekpieces

    Always, add this Caveat.
the trainer said 'Bobbins' improved today, due to the application of a chunk of Cash.

Newcastle just abandoned, but this dodge pot of Ruth Carrs, was being punted, note for next time.

thankyou for that, missed the word unraced! Jeremy Noseda used to have one called King Creole!and I found a King Creole that ran a week ago, but, in Bangalore! so guessing an unraced 2yo?
saw all sorts occur many times, entering, going through and leaving that car park!
the night of 96 gold collar, 3 way head bob finish, photo finish camera failed, judges decision, short head, short head short head, to say it all kicked off an understatement, plenty boys in blue arrived that night, plus the can I mind your 'motor guv' merchants! The Find the Lady (Boys) three card tricksters, Shysters with All Sorts For Sale, always bought the Greyhound Star magazine when the fella was their, Gpc, yes went 90s,but... was going weekday mornings, trials days, late 70s! In the 80s the Arthur Boyce kennel loved a 'touch' Arthur loved a brandy and my Mrs fancied the pants off dapper trainer Eric Vose!
Think I told you? big owner, big punter, in the 90s,Catford was Vince Young, made his fortune in the building business, got out of that, bought a right good boozer, sadly, Vince paased, just over 2 years ago, a larger than life fella with a heart of gold,2 years 4 months ago, I was with Vince, he was planning a Xmas cruise with his lovely Mrs, secretly told me he was going to persuade his Mrs to let him buy dogs to race again, never be another like Vince, not only did he treat every greyhound like his own flesh and blood, not many owners, at their own expense, build the racing kennels their own dogs are housed in.
hope puts smile on your boat race

by 15, rapidly lost interest in playing football, (playing) not ever lost interest in going or watching, save for, one brief mad few months moment, when Keith Burkenshaw became Gills manager in 88,made me 23,and thought 8 years of 'partying' 15 > 23 could be quickly repaired, with a few months of training and staying off the sauce and ciggys. How very very wrong!

didn't go to school after 13,hated school, loved punting (13!) betting, 'maths' or more so, how to settle a bet and make a book, was what interested me.Made mind up, wanted to be an on course bookmaker, own pitch, own bankroll. (did get licence years later) Only worked for WH 2 years, pretty much joined as a settler, the day I was legally allowed to.
Thrown straight into Park Lane Hilton Shop, circa Extel, a Board Man doing the odds, no one armed bandits, or pictures, the 'take' in that shop, was insane, as was the 'tyrant manager' who never smiled once, insisted the daily dollop of weird and wonderful multiples be settled manually, with no use of an OTT bet settler,or calculator. Inch thick pile of barely legible perm each way equally divided round robins, used to get hurled back at me if I got a penny wrong!
Mr Tyrant, had zero idea, who my punting mates were, zero idea I went racing, zero idea I was just angling a way to get'working' on course.
Probably did six months, that shop, then moved on and up.because of who Toffee was, and knew me from the tracks, and was a well known 'face' one sweet moment, in that Park Lane Shop that put the tyrent manager right in his place (tyrent coincidently also called Paul, swear on the book)
Toffee bowls in, looking to see me, calls out 'Paul' tyrent assumes a top racehorse and greyhound owner could only be conceivably calling for him, not the assumed wet behind ears 'kid'..
A sweetest of moments, I abhore, all and every piece of WHOTSIT type of bully, in every shape or form, the look on tyrents face, Priceless.

Again,I take the Oath, no Google to remember this...
Went to Wimbledon for the 87 Derby final, remember it so Crystal clear like it was yesterday, even though 33 blinking years ago, went because Toffees, dog in the Derby final and an absolute machine of a Marathon Dog called Roll Of Fame, running at the beginning of the Derby night, four of us lumped it, it Won as far as it liked, which made the night and weekend, then much later the best of all, Signal Spark wins the Derby, two flashed past the line together, ring bet 4s on the other dog in the photo, might have been Tapwatcher? Do (dare!) I mention this? or not!!!......???? zero flected Glory, but memories monies cannot buy. my other half was with same agency as Maria Whittiker and Kathy Lloyd! (two of the most famous page 3 girls, at that time) she came racing with me all the time, Inc the night above, was a bit 'well known' made for plenty interesting times at the races, inc Catford!
All good fun, all GOOD memories.

There used to be such a tiny discreet 'unkown' little WH shop in Margaret Street, that's London West End,around the corner, was a one shop independent that also stood in the ring every Crayford meeting, cant remember specifically the name, it was two initials, racing, possibly R & A Racing. Glen, real name, same age as me, same outlook as me, worked for R & A racing, mid 80s getting £600,£800,£1000 on off course, a bags (graded) greyhound, took some doing, (trade informed money, not mine) but that was a thrice weekly occurrence, live info money couldn't buy!Crayford was the naughtiest place, really really was, it still was, very naughty! in 2005,2006,fact.
Had nothing to do with the place since then. For someone who was used to Catford, Hove Wimbledon, seeing that utter joke, of a so called track open in 1986, no wonder Ladcrooks wanted it! The Golden Jacket was a pretty iconic stayers event, when Harringay hosted it, never conceived that ending up at blinking Crayford, in 87!

😉 'heard an urban rumour' the off course returned 'fav' doubles trebles accas coup, 4 graded dogs, all winning at sp 3-1 fav 😉😉😉 write on your betting slip, fav, fav, fav and fav. 255-1 acca, very very nice 👍 which occurred at Crayford, might just be an Urban fact, not a rumour😉

Leave you with this, 2001 too 2006, no one taught me this, no one told me this,it worked like a dream, is somewhat obvious, but this was my modus operandi that was a real licence to print monies. Not looked in near 15 years, at a single Xchange graded race market, so zero idea on liquidity these days, circa 2001, no premium charges, commission was more than fair, and the specific markets (which were bags and begs, only graded racing were more than liquid enough)
A typical weekday morning bags meeting, would normally have maybe, per race, £1000-£4000 ten mins before race, £4000-£10,000 five mins pre race, then in the five mins pre race, went anything from £30,000 > £50,000 + and that was every single morning, afternoon and evening graded race card, every day, every week, every month for 6 years plus.
2001 not long out of, tinternet still being the dial up era!!!

In the paragraph below, to do this, the fancy 'kit' computer, fast tinternet, bookies pictures etc, was not, NOT NEEDED OR REQUIRED to do this, certainly gave an extra edge, but not essential to do this. You needed, pun intended, a Sharp Mind, and put in 5 hours graft, 6 am to 11 am, if you chose, switch all off, go for a round of golf, etc, or, at 11.00 am the hard work done, now time for fun (making monies, smart monies)
But, cutting edge custom built pc, best Internet connection available was essential, for the EXTRA EDGE, as was a less than a second custom built 'refresh rate' meaning the screens I was looking at, displaying live shows, the live exchange show, and I had access to real time bookmaker feeds, which helped. continued, will explain exactly my own licence to print method, might still work.

Remember the 96 gold collar well, the part owner of the winner owned the Gordon Arms(Richard) and in those long gone days sunday pub opening was midday till 2,but Richard always had the side gate open for an early one,the day after the gold collar finale the usual suspects were all in by 11.30and by 2 were thinking of leaving for Sunday lunch, however Richard called time got rid of the punter's he didn't want and locked about 15 of us in well the champers was on ice what a drink that was by 7pm the pubs reopening time you can guess the state we were all in.
    happy days
